Safe to say this won't be marketed outside the USA eh?

Thanks everybody. We find out at 2pm EST today if Sodexho wants us or not. I'm not sold on whether I want them or not!
Chin up! Gut in! Walk on!

I didn't even see that John when I copy/pasted those brilliant lyrics in. Scatting means the musical use of short words/sounds like Mel Torme is famous for..."boo dop bee dop shoobie do wop".
Having said that, it doesn't seem to apply to the above lyrics, so I think the OTHER possible meaning of the word certainly applies. This song certainly qualifies as "scat" if there ever was one that did.

It's kind of funny though that an Indian should become a Nazi, because those bastards would have sent him and everyone else not fitting their bogus "purity of race" theory to the gas chamber as not being "Aryan".
This is ironic on a number of levels.

Kelly, can you handle this?
Michelle, can you handle this?
Beyonc鬠can you handle this?
I don't think they can handle this!
Barely move, we've arrived
Lookin sexy, lookin fly
Baddest chick, chick inside
DJ, jam tonight
Spotted me a tender thang
There you are, come on baby
Don't you wanna dance with me
Can you handle, handle me
You gotta do much better if you gone dance with me tonight
You gotta work your jelly if you gone dance with me tonight
Read my lips carefully if you like what you see
Move, groove, prove you can hang with me
By the looks I got you shook up and scared of me
Hook up your seatbelt, it's time for takeoff
I don't think you ready for this jelly
I don't think you ready for this jelly
I don't think you ready for this
Cause my body too bootylicious for ya babe
I don't think you ready for this jelly
I don't think you ready for this jelly
I don't think you ready for this
Cause my body too bootylicious for ya babe
Baby, can you handle this?
Baby, can you handle this?
Baby, can you handle this?
I don't think you can handle this!
I'm about to break you off
H-town goin hard
Lead my hips, slap my thighs
Swing my hair, square my eyes
Lookin hot, smellin good
Groovin like I'm from the hood
Look over my shoulder, I blow you a kiss
Can you handle, handle this
I don't think you ready for this jelly
I don't think you ready for this jelly
I don't think you ready for this
Cause my body too bootylicious for ya babe
I don't think you ready for this jelly
I don't think you ready for this jelly
I don't think you ready for this
Cause my body too bootylicious for ya babe
Move your body up and down (whoo!)
Make your booty touch the ground (whoo!)
I can't help but wonder why (whoo!)
Is my vibe too vibealacious for you, babe
I shake my jelly at every chance
When I whip with my hips you slip into a trance
I'm hoping you can handle all this jelly that I have
Now let's cut a rug while we scat some jazz
[scatting]
I don't think you ready for this jelly
I don't think you ready for this jelly
I don't think you ready for this
Cause my body too bootylicious for ya babe

Cursing every step of the way, he bore a heavy load
To the market ten miles away, the journey took its toll
And every day he passed a monastery's high cathedral walls
And it made his life seem meaningless and small
And he wondered how it would be to live in such a place
To be warm, well fed and at peace; to shut the world away
So when he saw a priest who walked, for once, beyond the iron gate
He said, 'Tell me of your life inside that place...'
And the priest replied...
We fall down, we get up
We fall down, we get up
We fall down, we get up
And the saints are just the sinners
Who fall down and get up
Disappointment followed him home; he'd hoped for so much more
But he saw himself in a light he had never seen before
Cause if the priest who fell could find the Grace of God to be enough
Then there must be some hope for the rest of us
There must be some hope left for us, 'cause…
We fall down, we get up
We fall down, we get up
We fall down, we get up
And the saints are just the sinners
Who fall down and get up

On the turning away
From the pale and downtrodden
And the words they say
Which we won't understand
"Don't accept that what's happening
Is just a case of other's suffering
Or you'll find that you are joining in
The turning away"
It's a sin that somehow
Light is changing to shadow
And casting its shroud
Over all we have known
Unaware how the ranks have grown
Driven on by a heart of stone
We could find that we're all alone
In the dream of the proud
On the wings of the night
As the day time is stirring
Where the speechless unite
In a silent accord
Using words you will find are strange
And mesmerised as they light the flame
Feel the new wind of change
On the wings of the night
No more turning away
From the weak and the wearing
No more turning away
From the coldness inside
Just a world that we all must share
It's not enough just to stand and stare
Is it only a dream that there'll be
No more turning away

So far Sodexho has been incredibly disorganized. Interviewers not showing up, interviews being cancelled last minute. Initial interviews being railroading experiences with rigidly set time limits where no questions concerning job descriptions, wages, benefits, retirement etc. have been discussed. Times constantly being changed, misinformation, etc. The employees were notified last minute at 1:30pm that there would be an emergency meeting on Thursday March 10. We were all herded into a room where the meeting was to begin at 3pm. Mohler and his entourage didn't arrive until 20 minutes later while we all sat there waiting for our futures to be impacted. Mohler strolled in, basically recited elements from that letter then turned heel and walked out. He never said anything to the effect of "you are all terminated" or anything. In fact, when the poor Sodexho reps took the floor they didn't say anything. It took one of the employees standing up and saying, "Do you all know what just happened? We have all lost our jobs". It was a mixed meeting of Cubans and Americans so the news spread like wildfire in to languages simultaneously. Total chaos erupted. There were security guards at the door. One of the Mohler cronies was later heard to ask, "Why was control lost?" Even though he had followed Mohler out the door.
Out of 94 positions there are only around 50 or 60 remaining, so fer certain the will be at least 30 people out of work.
Bonus...the Seminary doesn't carry unemployment insurance.....yippie!

I keep thinking of the Beverly Hills scene in Escape from LA.

Here's the letter we all recieved telling us that out jobs were axed. Praise the Lord and pass the plate.....94 people lost their jobs...some have been loyal for 15+ years.
March 11, 2005
Dear Southern Seminary Community:
I write today to inform you of a major change coming in the area of Facilities Services - Maintenance, Grounds, and Housekeeping. On April 1, 2005, Southern Seminary will begin a new partnership with Sodexho Campus Services in the management of our facilities division.
I would like to give everyone in the Seminary community a bit of background on this decision.
In the year 2005, we find ourselves, like other institutions, needing to really center on our core competency - and quite frankly, that’s theological education. As an institution, we do not have as our main purpose maintenance, grounds and custodial services. And because of that, we are not able to put the kind of time and management and emphasis into making sure that we know everything that is the industry standard across this country.
We need to follow the example of other institutions of similar size and purpose, and turn to outside partners who can really help us. After a long period of consideration, looking at feasibility studies and using those who can help us to think the issues through, we have chosen the Sodexho Corporation. For almost forty years, they have been in the business of facilities management. We have looked at peer institutions that have used them, and we feel very good about what we see. We feel good about Sodexho as a company in terms of their values and culture.
This is not about saying ‘no’ to what we’ve done in the past. This campus, as it stands today, is a tribute to all those past and present who have taken such loving care of this school, its grounds and its buildings. We are taking the next step in Southern Seminary’s maturity to look at what we must to do over the next several years. We have looked at budgets, strategic purposes, planning and everything from deferred maintenance to how we get the job done on a daily basis.
The change in Southern Seminary’s way of doing business will present choices to those affected. We, as an administration, have been working to make sure that they have the best array of choices possible. We want the very best for every person in the future. Each facilities worker will have an opportunity to apply and interview with Sodexho, and our hope is that they will do just that. There will be positions that need to be filled here and the work on this campus is going to continue.
In the year 2005, we have to make some hard decisions about where we are as a school, where we are going in the future, what we are really good at, and what we can help our people to be good at doing. And this is an area in which we know we need outside help. I believe we have found a partner who can give us that outside help. Therefore, as of March 31, persons in the Facilities Services area will no longer be employed by Southern Seminary, but those who apply and are hired will become employees of Sodexho on April 1, 2005.
We are deeply thankful for all those who have served Southern Seminary through its Facilities Services Division. We will hope to see many familiar faces on our campus through this new program. As we take another step toward the future, we pray that this institution, and every single individual who has contributed to this institution, will be blessed by God in even richer ways.
Sincerely,
R. Albert Mohler, Jr.
President

Without wishing t offend the Christians of the board, it's only mediacal technology keeping her alive, isn't it? Left to God/nature she would have been dead years ago. Again we are choosing when it's ok to "play God" and when it isn't.
Actually I agree with you completely. But from what I gather from the varied media reports, there are some who say that any attempts to get an outside, objective analysis of her condition have been blocked, and there may be the possibility for improvement to a level of quality. If that is the case, then I think she deserves the opportunity.
Timmy-You misunderstood my point. If you feel differently than my opinion, by all means, go ahead. We all have opinions, they're all great. We like to share them. We're sharing our opinions. Anything we come across in life is going to give us an opinion, whether we love it, hate it, or just don't care about it! Your coming to this thread with a different opinion is certainly welcome. But, if you were protesting in the streets, dressing in a funny costume, and running into this poor woman's room with a piece of bread, then yes, you are a mindless piece of shite troglydite! If there were people on the streets calling for her to die, dressng in costumes, and running into her room in an attempt to pull the plug, I would say the same thing about you!
I agree Christian...no doubt. Now enjoy this little tete-a-tete because it will be the LAST! :p
Charlie--I will say that if we are talking New Deal liberals then my position softens significantly. I believe greatly in many of the reforms brought about under FDR.

I'm sure I also have to hold several concept in tension, as well, Timmy.
Timmy, follow up:
Since we live in a secular, pluralistic country, aren't there issues that are unaffected by our religious views? For example, homosexuality. To you, it's a sin, but it's not illegal. Aren't there times when you recognize that your religious views should have little bearing on an issue and that, in fact, it can and should, under the American model, be solved by secular reasoning?
I am willing to leave the legality to the morality of the people. Lets look at Roe vs. Wade. If enough of the population feels that this law is no longer "legal" and a movement begins to repeal it then I will take my side, vote where I can, talk up the issue, then let the chips fall where they may. If Roe v. Wade stands, then it is the law and I will abide by it. I may not like it, but since it went through the democraftic process, it is valid in my eyes. The same applies to gay marriage. Pro-gay marriage advocates fight for their beliefs, anti-gay marriage advocates do the same. The issue for me Charlie is that there really isn't such a thing as secular. Everything is religious/ethical/moral. One side says a woman's right to her body trumps the future of a fetal ball of tissue. This is an ethical/moral/religious statement concerning the viability of the fetus/baby, the value of human freedom, the role of the government to inject it's power, etc. Gay marriage is an ethical/moral/religious statement concerning human freedom, human sexuality, the purpose of marriage, the invasiveness of the government, etc. right/wrong/ethical/inethical/good/evil/legal/illegal...these are all valuations which emerge from varying sources...does society or the individual have the authority to determine these valuations? Do these valuations emerge from a Higher Source? Both of these questions ultimately make statements about God, reality, purpose, meaning, etc. Both IMHBAO are religious.

Absolutely! Isn't that how he got close to S.W. Manor? ;)

How do you reconcile your religious beliefs and political beliefs? You see your Christianity as reinforcing your conservatism, I see it as reinforcing my liberalism. How is this possible? Are we more alike than we think?
I often find myself thinking that an issue is a political one and that as an American a legal precedent and not a spiritual one must trump the situation. But I also find myself saying, "Well, I believe in this, but I also REALLY feel religiously inspired to believe in it."
Then again, I'm in a weird space. I think I identify a lot more with the pre-war left than the post-war "New Left."
I believe that ALL political parties and governments are subject to human corruption. Not one is GOOD. So I am really apolitical at heart. But at this time in history we in America are in a two party system and for the most part I find that the gist of the conservative poltical agenda fits my world-view better than the liberal system. I choose the lesser of two evils so to speak. Do I like some of the imperial rhetoric I see issuing out of the neo-con camp, absolutely not. But I do like the "hard-ass" face America is giving the world right now because I think it is all the thugs out there can respect. Does that gain the US enemies, certainly, but I would argue that they would be our enemies for what ever reason they could find, only now we are ready, they are hesitant because they fear the repercussions, etc. I wish we did more as a people for the poor/homeless/AIDS victims etc. I wish we didn't give the rich so many breaks. But I believe homosexuality is a sin, and should not be granted special rights. I believe abortion is murder and that the baby in the womb is a person not a blob of cells who has just as much right to live as the woman carrying him/her has over their own body.
I don't like the growing involvement of religious organizations in politics. I believe in keeping secular govt and organized religion separated. But even those problems do not outweigh the fundamental evils of the liberal agenda IMHBAO. Do I want my leaders to be informed by conservative Judeo-Christian values? Yes. Do I wan't my leaders alienating non-Christians? No. Do I wan't to keep marriage defined as a holy union between one man and one woman? Yes. Do I want an atmosphere of hatred, bigotry and homophobia? No.
See, no of these things are black/white easily grasped, simplistic solutions. I have to hold several seemingly oxymoronic concepts in tension all the time.

I must admit, when I first came to the old board many moons ago, I thought Lou and Charlie were African-American. Don't know why....just did.
-
As a conservative (theologically) Christian and as a political conservative I have to admit that in the case of assisted suicide I just can't find my footing. Suicide is not an unforgivable sin in the Bible, however it is a sin against life and against the Creator. But there comes a point where one just has to recognize the pain and suffering of an individual and his/her right to end their life. This is why I am an advocate of living wills and DNR's because I DO believe in the individuals right to life. That should extend to his/her right to end their life as well. And I am wary of giving any government any say in my right. If Terry Schiavo had left a living will and the government, ANY government, had attempted to impose it's will to perpetuate her life, that would be a gross misuse of power. But there are so many variables in this case. It is her husband's word against what appears to be an outside hope for some quality of life under the care of her parents and siblings. Since there is no living will, I agree that the best course of action is to gain more information concerning any such hope. Is it true that any outside attempts to access her potential for some improvement have been blocked by the husband and the state courts for the last 15 years? If so, I think it is worth it to give a body of objective neurologists time to asess her potential.

Thanks fellows, but lets not muck up Pooka's thread with my woes. I can definitely relate to Pooka missing the kids. There will be many close friends I work with who I lean on for support everyday who I will miss very much.

And, all these people who are pulling for (THIS) Terri to be kept alive, my god, what the fuck is wrong with them?! You're band wagon jumping little trogolydites who need a good swift kick in your ass to wake you up to the real world. You don't know this woman! You have no right to attempt to force your opinion into the public eye by dressing in your little stupid costumes and pulling your stupid stunts, like brain deadened 5 year old Cokeheads, just in the hope of being caught on camera for 5 seconds, you lame willed fame craving pieces of shit!Yes, for all those idiots who never took a Biology or Psychology course in their life (obviously)And come on, this doesn't show ALL of America to be hopeless. What, the rest of us actually OPPOSING these "right to lifers" don't count? Some of us DO have working brains.
So if I disagree I am a troglodyde, wear stupid costumes, am brain dead, a 5 year old, a coke-head, lame willed, piece of shit, an idiot, obviously uneducated, hopeless, brain doesn't work......
Come on, could I get away with this rhetoric when I refute Christian's illogical need to cling to a dead politico-social world view? Doubt it.
Nothing more to see here...please carry on....
-
Pooka you lost your job? Social retard that I am, I didn't know. I am loosing mine March 31. Been here for nearly 10 years and just like that they are dumping the entire facilities department for an outside management group. So, here's some commiseration.
Good thoughts.
-
If we can learn anything from this it would be to fill out a living will post haste.
Can we tone down the rhetoric a bit? Jeesh, it's like watching a pro-life rally at an abortion clinic around here! :D

1. John Constantine because he is blue collar, a smart-arse, quick on his feet, and houses a crusty heart of gold under his nihilistic demeanor.
2. I would just want his knowledge and his wit. No other special powers are necessary. Most of the time he uses mental judo on his opponents and tricks them into stepping in their own crap. He's like Bugs Bunny.

Howdy everybody. I haven't been able to get to a computer for a while. I am in the public library right now.
Still looking for work. I have put numerous applications in all over town and havn't gotten any response. I am hestiant to go back into plumbing, but I have kinda painted myself into a corner. Ten years out of college makes much of my education obsolete. I do have an interview next week and a two day career workshop. Maybe it's time for a career change after all. Will be looking at teaching, counseling centers or chaplaincy....
Just an ironic note...the company that took over facilities at the seminary (Sodexho), is actively pro-homosexual...even gives time off for Gay Pride and such.... and they are STILL looking for my replacement (advert in the want ads)...
Well, it is tough to get on the net these days but I typically am on an hour a day at the library. I'll check back soon.
