  1. Oooh, didn't know it was meant to be Fegredo. (hmmmn...when I once met Mike at a con several years ago, he was sitting next to Fegredo...hmmn....)

Can anyone recommend any other Fegredo work I should check out beyond the amazing 'Enigma'?

  2. Apparently the last storyline will be a mammoth 12-parter so they delays now are to ensure that there will be no delays in the final year for the final twelve issues.

    Which is fair enough.

(although we were just left hanging for several months before this nugget was revealed by Azz at the comic-con which pissed me off frankly)

  3. And I grow more fond of Jock with everything of his I see.

    The mind boggles.

Good lord, sorry to leave a sentence so easily misconstrued...

What I meant to say was that I am deeply infatuated with Jock having now seen him naked.

  4. Just read issue #2 and think Faker is the best thing Mike's done since the last stretch of Lucifer.

I agree that issue 2 kicks the story into gear but I loved the character set-up of the first issue. It's great that - even though we've got the 'inciting incident' of Nick - we still don't really know what the actual story is in a lot of ways.

  5. (my old forum used to have a "no sycophancy" rule).

A 'no sycophancy rule', eh? That's such a genius idea!! You're soooo clever, Mr D

    (sorry - couldn't resist that one ;) )

But yeah, I'm still enjoying the writing, altough I'm horribly behind in my deadlines at the moment due to having a new baby - my son Jake, born last month. I'm looking forward to things getting back onto an even keel - and I bet my editor is too! ;)

But seriously, many congrations to you and the family for the arrival of Jake!

  6. I'm with Mark, it wasn't even like Moore's whole run was consistently that spectacular (though always enjoyable) but the character was fully evolved by the end. I wouldn't even be that bothered to see Alan Moore

hi'self come back to the book.

Haven't read much else of it apart from Wein and Vaughan and I enjoyed both. You can see why they gave Vaughan the freedom to create his own stuff 'cos his ideas were too limited by the continuity of other people's characters.

Love Swamp Thing popping up in other titles though (eg - Carey's HB run)

  7. Yeah, it isn't the Alfred of the comic books/cartoons but I liked Caine - plus the whole film was filled with surrogate-fathers which was kind of the point!

By the end of the film, Bruce is a grown man so I imagine his relationship with Alfred will be slightly different in this one (although I'm sure we'll still be able to lump him into the Aunt May category - older actors aren't allowed to be erudite or curmudgeonly in superhero films dontcha know!)

  8. Can't help you find it but I certainly remember it.

I used to love the Eagle monthly when I was but a young man. Nothing beat 'The Thirteenth Floor' though (not the shitty film - the ex-evil Artificial Intelligence now running a department store story)

  9. I think Castor's the best thing Mike's written. Or, at the very least, they're my favourites.

Firstly, it's his. Secondly, I genuinely like Castor more than that other trenchcoaty fellah we all read about and I like how he's crapper and not obviously tough enough to take on the things he does. Thirdly, I love Mike's London.

Faker - I really, really enjoyed. In terms of unsympathetic characters, there's a big difference between *empathising* and *sympathising* with a character. Also, after all the super hero shenanigannery, it's nice to see Mike back being a bit mean and sly with his stories. (I also was reading this comic whilst sitting on my own in my favourite all you can eat Chinese buffet so I was a very happy fat lad). Certainly gonna get the second issue anyway. Something is afoot (not just Sarah Jessica Parker either!)

  10. I just can't wait for this film.

I'm keeping my expectations low as well so that I don't get all Spider-man 3'd (yeah, that's a verb now) but it just really feels like there is nothing being churned out around this film.

They're crafting it. Whether we think stuff looks silly or some casting surprises us, it's not because Nolan doesn't think it will fit together!

  11. The plot was a miss - so no matter how good the script, acting, effects etc were there was no escaping that a bunch of disparate and often contrived story elements were loosely tied together. BUT, they were tied together with spidey-web so, you know, it wasn't a bad film per se.

Just disappointing 'cos you know they can all do better!

My favourite bit was that me and the missus, um... 'Egon', were sitting behind an eight-year-old fully dressed up in his Spider-Man outfit. At one point he turns to his Dad and says 'Daddy, why did they just do that?' to which Daddy turned round and said 'Sorry kiddo, I have absolutely no idea!'
