  1. This is an off-the-wall kind of question but it relates to an issue of Hellblazer:

In that issue featuring the Hunt werewolves (forgot the exact name and issue), why were the werewolves riding horses? Is there any European mythical reason behind that or just creative license/really lazy lycanthropes? Personally, I think it's kind of... silly; the beast rider idea is cool but when you're a powerful creature based off an animal that can lope along for miles and miles a day in search of food...

  2. Wow. Never knew that. You really do learn something new everyday, yes!

Although, since I never thought of an asterisk representing any kind of silence, initially reading it as "squishy bug!" makes it funnier than it should be.

    I'm horrid. =D

  3. Wow. My name was on the cover. In tiny-teeny-weenie-tiny black writing (IT'S LIKE "WHERE'S WALDO!" - just how I like it!), so I had to loooook but I had a major freakout when I noticed that it was definitely me. Like, I could not bring myself to read the damn thing until the shock wore off.

Hats off to you, Mr. Bradstreet. You made my day. <3 I can cross "Appear indirectly in comic book with John Constantine" off my list of life things to do now.

(I guess that also is a sign for me to quit lurking/hiding from you scary people. Do you guys bite? I still have ten fingers. I carefully counted.)

Anyway, I liked this issue a lot more than I did last month's (Welcome back, Manco!). Too bad it had some horribly careless editing errors like Chas going "...*" which had me mentally going, "No footnote? So Chas said, '... ASTERISK!' Maybe, '... SQUISHY BUG!' '... STAR!' Hey, this is fun." A 9, because I had fun reading it and had been hoping for a helping of the usual "bastardy" Constantine, which I finally got. It's nice to see him back on his feet after all that, um, crap happening to him. Personally, I didn't really agree with the lockup torching but hey. His shit. Made for a nice few panels.

    Although, two one questions:

One, I did not get the reflections going on when John was sitting there in that jail cell. What was the coffin about? Gemma's folks, I think? Couldn't tell.

And is it just me or am I the only one that noticed Manco may have did some "referencing" for that poker scene?

(Edit: Aw, hell... Forget may. Here is me noticing the picture behind them just now.

... Poker playing humans. What a concept.)

  4. I've been hovering around for a bit and being a (hack)artist when I'm not mutilating things in MS paint, I think this is a neat idea. Of course I had to tell my artsy friend, Keet, about it.

And while that's on my mind... *kicks at her to come out... someday*

I've been thinking about trying my hand at The Devil. The First looks like fun to draw. Now, pardon me if this has been discussed before (give me a good whacking if so) but do these have to be in color or can some be in black and white?

No guarantees though, for I am the Queen Lazy-Ass of Somewhere-or-Else-Land. In case I don't ever get to it, I'll follow Pooka's stunning example and draw Satan as an angry, threatening devil toaster since it's two in the morning, Satan can take any form he wants or something and my funny is waning:

  5. Hey,

I'm more of a happy lurker than anything, but this little (Ha! Little! Understatement if there ever was one!) bit of news really took a whiz on my day and I feel inclined to say something about it.

Because we all like to tell stories: I remember first getting into Hellblazer through Dangerous Habits, then the two trades I managed to pick up afterwards, Setting Sun and Rare Cuts. Then there was the first read-through of Setting Sun... I will confess the comics were a little hard to get into at first; I never was really into Western comics at the time and I had no idea how they worked (I used to be a mostly-manga junkie: same artist doing the work throughout, blah blah), so the changing artists and complete, single-issue-story-concept-wow threw me for a spin. But, out of my confusion of understanding this durnfangled Western comics thing, I remember really liking the art to "The Crib."

Now that I look back on it (when I should be doing this sad sigh number about graduation from high school and all the people that I will probably never hear from or care about again), I saw the wise(ass?), old Constantine ahead of the game in all his cunning in the issue, the "essence" of his character some fans say, something I was trying to get a hold on as I was very new to the character at the time. My first "real" exposure to John was through the blasted-okay-that's-too-soft-how-about-damn movie (Sorry for bringing it up again!), and I remember leaving the theater with a very weird conception of the character. All I had was what a friend of mine, Keet, had told me prior. Sandman, which I read months before, doesn't count: I had no idea who John was, other than a guy in a trenchcoat that lived in London that drew Christian no-nos on the floor.

I have yet to digest the entirety of Hellblazer (I sinned and downloaded the series because I am afraid of comic stores, but I'm collecting the issues as they come to make up for it.) but out of your work, it's either between that lovely backshot of John with the seal and other weird goodliness doodled on it in Issue 181 (Ha ha! You were right! Everyone says nice things about it!) or that panel featuring John's eye on page 15 of "The Crib" ("What? Out of all my work done on the book, you pick an eye?"). Being an aspiring artist, and one that looks wa-ay-ay up at you, I have a fondness for eyes. Out of what I read of the series and all of John's eye closeups, that one is the best. Oh, yes, I do like them eyes.

In some cases, covered in sauce.

In other words, I'll be on the sidelines, shaking my finger. Bad move, Vertigo. Bad, bad move.

Anyway, typical stuff mooshy here: Good luck with your future projects. Hopefully, when I drum up enough money should I get a part-time job, I might be able to catch'em. It's going to be weird seeing you draw these other strange people... I'm used to seeing your wonderful Constantines.

    Another unhappy fan,

    F.G.

(And, by the way, I might have missed this somewhere but do you have any of your covers or something available as a print? I would be more than happy to purchase one, or two. Hell, I wouldn't even care if they were signed or not... People would give me odd looks for framing a comic book and sticking it up on the wall.)

WOOHOO. I'M A NUTPOOP... I found it myself after Keet pummeled me. Of course Bradstreet has a website...! *wonk wonk goes the head on the desk*

  6. Hiya. Uh, thanks for the welcome in the other thread. Pardon me if I seem dead; I like to lurk and read everything before saying anything (being forum shy does not help my case). I'm very new to the fandom and therefore have nothing amazing to contribute... Just annoying questions from Hell!

(That's what this topic is for, eh?)

Anyway, this burning question. I was browsing around the Ultimate Hellblazer Index (lovely site - pictures of John being snarky make me smile) and stumbled across this:

    http://www.qusoor.com/hellblazer/images/Shade44.jpg

This has been bothering me. For a man that (from what I seem to be picking up) does not like to use magic all that often, what the heck? What's up with the crow trick? Did John pull a Delirium with birds or does this happen to be the fanciest scene shift ever? Or a grand illusion? I tried browsing around but this must be an old issue of Shade: The Changing Man - I can't find a synopsis or whatever for it anywhere.

    What did Johnny do here?
