  1. Jessie: Tell us more! How are you coming along, will it be published? Can I buy it?

It's coming along pretty well--I needed a break from the super serious everything-is-terrible-and-everyone-cries literary short stories I was writing in grad school, so it's fun to do some genre stuff for a while. It's kind of a sports novel/gay romance kind of thing which is a fun mix. No, i don't know if it will ever be published, and yes, if it is, you can buy it. :)

  2. Re: GTA driving, I obeyed traffic laws and stoplights for my entire first play through of LA Noire. I probably logged as much time sitting at red lights, looking in the windows of random shops, as I did solving cases. It was awesome.

  3. See you in two months then Bro. :) Have fun.

I was very disappointed to see that Borderlands Two is nothing like as much fun to play as One was. I can't put my finger on it, but some part of the chaos, or crazy, is just going through the paces.

    Noooooooooo you're wrooooooooong

  4. We haven't told him yet. I'm waiting for us to reach a year, that way my pops and stepmom won't assume or claim that it's just a phase of some sorts. My mom also, though I'm more worried of telling her although my stepdad has indicated that she is a bit aware of it, but not too happy.

Good luck with that Greg. It's never easy!

  5. Did Mark shave his mustachio?

Yup. He did it to be able to drag up seriously for my girlfriend's 30-year birthday party this weekend. (It was a costume party). He looked puuuuuurdy!

I need proof of this wondrous event so that I can be jealous if Mark looks good in drag & make-up.

I'm sure Mark can provide us with photographic evidence. Or, if he Okays it, I can.

After all the weird pictures of Mark we've seen on this board--it would be odd for him to draw the line at drag.

  6. I do wish I had more of a regional accent, though - now that I no longer have to live there and be surrounded by it every day, I've grown rather fond of the Northumbrian dialect.

Ditto. Now that I'm living in the North, I miss Kentucky accents--but when I lived there I worked really hard to keep my accent neutral.

  7. Thanks everybody! I had a good one--Whitney brought me breakfast in bed and everything. I was really excited for my first birthday as a married lady and it did not disappoint. :)

    @Atticus @Rogan: rofl

I see you are getting the Alyson Hannigan effect. You look younger than years ago.

That's what happens when you quit smoking and drinking and start getting regular sleep! Although it makes me wonder what I must have looked like at nineteen...

  8. Oh man, cider. I am going to stock up at the farmer's market tomorrow.

Yes, I'm in Syracuse--for one more year, and then we're going wherever my wife gets into grad school. We just got married a little less than a month ago. We did DIY as much as possible--ceremony in our backyard, friends DJing and bartending and playing live music, and I made my dress. Some pics are here if you're interested:

Plus I think we're FB friends so just flip through the pics tagged with me, there are tons more.

  9. Hey Charlie! Nice to see you here again--all the best to your family, they sound lovely.

How's Ann Arbor these days? I watched The Five Year Engagement with my housemate the other day, and it was like a nostalgia trip--the main character works at Zingerman's, they drink at Old Town--it made me want to get in the car and drive back right then.

  10. Awesome! Thanks for the recommendations everybody! Now that the wedding's over, Whitney and I finally have time to watch TV again (woo!). We are catching up on "Wartime Farm" (I am a domestic history nerd) and "Vera," and will add some Doctor Who eps to the list. :)

And Mark, you're right, you know what I hate. Very glad I have you guys to guide me to episodes that will not make me want to kill someone!

  11. the God-awful Silurian two-parter

Until this exact moment, I had totally forgotten about that episode. Thanks a lot Malin. :)

I bailed on Doctor Who after "A Good Man Goes to War" for rage-related reasons. Are there any episodes since then that I should check out? Preferably not written by Moffat?

  12. It was wonderful! We had the whole thing in our backyard--weren't sure we would fit everybody but we managed! Whitney's parents have been making great progress over the last couple of months, so they came and so did about twenty of Whitney's relatives (a fraction of her total family!). Her grandmothers sent pastries and hong-bao, which are little red envelopes full of money. My parents officiated and quoted the Princess Bride. A ton of our friends pitched in to help out--DJing, bartending, taking photos, setting up tables, picking up food. Whitney's two brothers performed an arrangement of Fleet Foxes' "Helplessness Blues" on guitar. It was incredibly, incredibly wonderful, and given how sad our engagement was I think we deserved such a happy wedding.

I'll post pictures when we get them! We are so lucky you guys! And all of you who pitched in will be getting thank you cards sometime in the next century. Please let me know if your mailing address is different from the way it's listed on Paypal so that your card makes it to the right place. :)

  13. Thanks Ade for putting this up! And thanks everybody for your congratulations and kind words. :) We are super floored with the amount of love coming our way. And yes Avaunt, it is really weird and amazing that we can keep everybody in our lives in touch with this whole process--it makes me very happy. :) :) :)
