  1. Just saw a bunch of Oscar nominated movies and the question that lingers hardest in my mind right now is 'why the fuck has The Queen been nominated for Best Picture when Pan's Labyrinth has not?'. The former is a mediocre picture, merely adequately directed and slightly elevated by three excellent central performances. The second movie, IMO, is near enough to flawless - as horrific and as beautiful as any I've ever seen, really. What makes Pan's Labyrinth more of a foreign film than The Queen anyhow?

Don't mean to pee on your rant here Abhi but every single year there's an film awards show that you express your disappointment about the exclusion of films you find superior to the choices the Academy Board made for their final nominations lists.

I stopped taking the Oscars seriously when Dances With Wolves swept the boards and Goodfellas didn't...and you and i both know which is the better film there

  2. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll just make it a tiny role to acknowledge the events of Begins and then move on swiftly.

Now the casting of Dent is going to be intriguing, who'd make a good Two Face?

I remember reading something about Liev Schreiber being one of the possible candidates but it seems to be thats just heresay and rumourmongering.

  3. I'm dying to see it but, much to my annoyance, there's still no sign of it in Irish cinemas - I know there's a DVD screener out there in pirate-land but I really want to see it on the big screen.

Well, at least on the big screen, if you get bored during one of the schmaltzy bits you can count the amount of wrinkles and folds he has on his face these days.

  4. Got round to watching the aforementioned Rocky Balboa yesterday...................

    And i surprisingly liked it.

Despite Stallone now looking like a wax figure melting in slow motion and sounding like he is missing half of his tongue when he spluuuuuurrrrrrrrgheaks, getting past all that(and maybe with the aid of subtitles), its quite an enjoyable film and you do find yourself cheering on Rocky to defy all of his cynical critics and pull off one last valiant effort to defeat the current reigning heavyweight champion.

Never been a Rocky fan but i think this is a fitting end to the saga.

  5. After seeing the preview, I don't mind their new look, though I know Transformers purists will dog me for such blasphemy.

Just a shame Soundwave never made it into the film but then again him transforming into a cassette recorder is a bit of a dated idea now.

They'd have to make him transform into an Ipod these days.

Or probably a mechanical prawn given the crusteacan theme Michael Bay seems to be following.

  6. Well, issue 33 was a predictable inevitable mess of an issue wasn't it?

I was expecting this type of issue to come along when Michonne said she was crying thinking of all the things she was going to do to the Governor way back in issue 29.

Are we to expect a freakish disfigured Governor to rally up his troops and try and mount an attack on the prison now then which will unleash the hordes of zombies outside into the prison then cue a mad dash escape by Rick and co?

  7. I imagine it will be like every other Rocky film where he gets knocked out about 79 times during a 12 round match and doesn't have so much as a cut above his eye but a gaping wound pumping pints of blood out of it but still somehow manages to win the fight.

Why is he getting to fight in a boxing match anyway? he was diagnosed as having terminal brain damage in Rocky V, or have they conveniently forgotten it existed so they can re-write and re-vise the Rocky franchise once again without any difficult details like brain damage creeping in to ruin their plans?

  8. Busy schedules and a busy life has curbed my time on these boards a lot recently and i figured its probably best to take my leave from this messageboard for the foreseeable future as i have a lot of plans in the New Year that i am going to be devoting a lot of my attention and time to and which won't give me many opportunities to visit this site and converse with you good people as much as i would like.

So in short, i would like to take this opportunity to say goodbye to you all, i have thoroughly enjoyed my time on these boards and hope you all realise your dreams and ambitions and go on to live fantastic and exciting lives.

I will be sure to keep in touch with some of you on MSN and i shall also fulfill my Secret Santa commitments too.

Best wishes, Good Luck and Fare thee well to you all.

  9. These type of e-mails do the rounds a lot, along with those other e-mails that supposedly tell you how to enlarge your penis, boost your bust size and tell me how i can make a million quid in a day.

I know someone out there wants me to be a big-breasted, highly tumescent millionaire but no need to annoy me by e-mail about it so much.

  10. Sitting in a hot tub with a bunch of hot girls in bathing suits. Tho I have yet to acomplish that goal.

Might have to get yourself a second job and some overtime at your new job to make that dream come true there Wolvy me old son...making those kind of dreams into reality don't come cheap you know

By the way, since "fluffiness" is required in this thread, here's some pictures of bearded ladies...

Add "Straight Outta Compton" onto that list as well cos thats one dope track beeeeeeatch.

  12. I sometimes look at www.cookdandbombd.co.uk now and again but i haven't been on that forum in a while, regularly post on the BBC football forums and on www.talkceltic.net as well.

I was introduced to some shitty local forum by an old acquaintance a few weeks ago, after signing up to it i realised it was largely frequented by a bunch of Internet messageboard flaming types arguing with each other and calling each other "[over-used word]s", i didn't like the general malevolence and nastiness evident within the site and i didn't think it was amusing at all especially since most of the abuse was being levelled at female posters on the site.

It took me a while to settle here but i genuinely like the level of discussions and debate around this place and i think this is probably the best messageboard i have ever been part of....

All this from STH's resident misanthrope too!

  13. Dre is a fantastic producer

He can be a fantastic producer at times but his style can get rather staid and boring, compared to someone like DJ Premier(or Primo as many people call him in the game) or Dan The Automator or EL-P at the moment i think Dre is merely treading water these days with these rinky dink keyboard parts for the likes of Eminem and The Game and isn't as groundbreaking and revolutionary as he used to be.

Not questioning how much the man has contributed to the rap game because a lot of the best hiphop records and talented guys like Snoop and Eminem wouldn't have existed without him, the man has a Midas touch where nurturing new and emerging hiphop talent is concerned.

    and has a great VOICE

Personally, I don't see anything up or wrong with that...he has a great delivery and presence as an MC.

I can see what you're getting at but I wouldn't say Dre is blessed with many skills, and his style is not the most adaptable, i don't think Dre could spit rhymes to any kind of beat, whereas i think the likes of Eminem, Nas, Jay-Z and Mos Def can.

My opinion of Dre's voice is rather like my opinion of Everlast from House Of Pain's voice too, the rhymes and flow aren't the best in the world but their delivery has impact, however that doesn't necessarily make a person a great rapper IMO.
