  1. Anyone ever see The Fog of War?

Yes. Damn fine documentary it is too, by the end of it you think to yourself "hell, that Bob McNamara led some life"

Thora Birch is a cute/interesting looking lady. What has she done since then?

Spider, Thora Birch made a British horror movie called The Hole around the same time Ghost World was completed and when it was doing the rounds at various festivals like Sundance but between that and Ghost World, i haven't seen her in anything noteworthy since.

Maybe somebody else can answer that question though...

  2. variety.com says that a sin city series is in planning from the weinstein brothers, basing on the films. it will eventually come after the second film.

no more details. what would or do you think now about this?

If thats true then Frank Miller must be writing some new stories because there's not enough graphic novels in existence to justify an entire TV run of Sin City.

I can't imagine they'll assemble a cast as strong or as talented as the cast they got for the film either for a TV show.

Sounds all a tad dodgy to me.

You got a source/link you can post for this Hagren?

  3. Right-o.  Shouldn't looking good and sharp be a priority for EVERYONE, gay or straight?

Hell yeah, i see no problem with it at all, it just bemuses me how its perceived to be a "gay" thing to do.

I remember when i was at school there was some bizarre gay/straight rule where a person's sexuality was questioned if a guy wore an ear ring in the "wrong" ear lobe or if a guy wore a wristwatch on the "wrong" arm, i was subsequently called gay for wearing my wristwatch on my right arm which to this day i never got an explanation as to why the choice of arm from which i chose to wear my watch on categorised me as being a homosexual.

  4. I don't really get why its apparently so "gay" to like clothes and have good personal hygiene though, i remember a gay friend of mine down in Glasgow commented on the amount of toiletries i brought with me when i stayed at their flat for a week and he said something to the effect of "you know with the amount of face scrubs, moisturising gel, hair wax and aftershave you have, you could pass yourself off as a gay man no problem" but the way i see it, i just like looking clean and smelling nice.

Same goes for suits, ties and shirts, i am a real sucker for good looking suits.

  5. I suppose to get any kind of high score in this, you would have to own a pair of leather trousers, would have to have shaved bollocks and plucked eyebrows, have a stud in your penis, use lubricant in a sexual encounter and are willing to spend over 100 quid on a shirt to be deemed "modern"....

  6. You lousy bunch of fuckers, you're all sitting there in front of your computers and apparently discussing the best action movies ever made but you have the audacity to omit such classics as...

And I'll omit them too since people don't need to see them load twice, but they look bad just on these promo images. I've barely heard of many of them, and I suppose that's as it should be.

It takes a kind of stamina to be a true movie buff that I'll never have. For me, life is too short to drink bad wine, but there is an odd bit of fun in occasionally tasting something nauseating. 8-)

I don't actually like any of those movies Josh, i was being ironic....as i am also wont to do.

  7. and 8 mile is a piece of shit, what has that to do again with all this? btw.

I was joking, as i am wont to do at times.

Don't mean to be rude or crabby here but lets drop the talk about Constantine now, lets talk about SPACE MARINES VERSUS DEMONS FROM HELL!!!! instead

  8. well, yes. but ive seen it a long time ago, and i often change my mind, so who knows? maybe im also dont liking it now. but i think that its the most evil film was a bit extreme

You are actually wrong there, looking back at the comments i made about Forrest Gump, you'll see that Sethos/Sean said it was evil, i said it was a "patronising, jingoistic load of guff"...but Sean is right, it is a pretty evil film considering how patronising it is to people in general.

and am i really the only one who likes constantine? maybe here, but i know many people who do, so the general audience. or not?

i just think its underrated because many people didnt give it a chance, so thats why im struggeling against that. or did no one of you have changed your mind about a film, from positive to negative or the other direction?

(that question now in common sense)

It wasn't the case of many people not giving it a chance, it just wasn't a very good film full-stop, neither as a horror film or an action film.

But i have said all i wanted to say about that film many times over in the past and i am not going to repeat myself again and i don't think anyone else wants to repeat themselves about Constantine anymore either.

  9. kris: i almost never say about a film that its bad. i just tell my personal pros and kontras, and everyone looks at me if i would write its shit or i hate it :)

We're all elitist snobs here though, did you expect anything less from us?

and i explained often why i love constantine the movie, altough im also not fully overwhelmed with it, and im always writing it besides my pros. it just had many things i liked and would like in other films.

Somebody has to like it i suppose, i try not to think about the film anymore, its memory is gathering dust somewhere in the recesses of my mind.

and mib is just a funny but mindless film (altough sometimes boring what is strange because it just lasts one and a half hour long) what  i want to watch if i want to have fun, where i chill out from the shits of life and dont have to think, you know.

The only amusement i get out of the film is from Vincent D' Onofrio's performance, he gives Will Smith a masterclass in comedic acting in the first MIB movie.

and downfall is just not my type of acting. and the exteriors where just plainly bad. but because of that its not a bad film for me, but not an exceptional like i heard everybody saying. i dont know why

But Forrest Gump is?(you don't need to answer that, i am winding you up) ;)

  10. I thought DEMONS FROM HELL and thought about the demons from Constantine, thus its director Francis Lawrence. Then I immediatly dissmissed the idea not needing him to butcher any more movies.

Doom in his hands would be set in Los Angeles and not Mars, the DEMONS FROM HELL would be a rap group called the DEMONZ OUTTA HELL from South Central L.A and the lead character would be played by Eminem....all in all, it would be 8 Mile 2: 8 More Miles and bear absolutely no resemblance to the original source material whatsoever.

  11. I understood you fine the first time Hagren, i neither read what you said wrong nor did i misinterpret your initial post, i just disagree with you that both Men In Black movies and Constantine are more enjoyable movies than Batman Begins...your love for Keanustine is one thing i will never ever begin to fathom.

Is it because you thought the lighting, the costumes, the music and the sets were better looking in those films? ...sorry Hagren, bit of sarcasm there(see your earlier posts for a point of reference where my little dig there was concerned)

But hey, you're entitled to your opinion even if your tastes in movies totally befuddle me sometimes, especially those recent opinions of your's with regard to Downfall.

  12. Speaking of computer games being made into movies....

Just read that Vin Diesel is going to be playing.....

    hitman.jpg

Agent 47 in a movie based on the Hitman games.

Here's hoping that he plays him with much the same charisma as he played Riddick in Pitch Black and not like Xander Cage in XXX.

  13. Last night I saw "New York Doll" the tale of Arthur Kane and the New York Dolls reunion at Morrissey's Meltdown Festival. The intro is the history of the band and their impact on music. Then in a where are they now? section,  we find Kane working at his local Mormon temple having found religion after a severe alcohol problem (and three of his band having died). He hears about the reunion gig and is amazed that Johansen will take part, but he does and the third part is the rehearsals and then the gig. During the film several folks talk about the band and their influence. Arthur Kane comes over as a true gentle man who has burned himself (out) with alcohol and gradually comes back out of his shell as the gig nears. If you don't know the music I would almost suggest that you avoid finding out more and allow yourself to follow the story - there's even a nice graphical timeline! Brilliant history of a terrific band.

Would be interesting to see that documentary, i remember seeing a few documentaries on the New York punk scene a number of years ago and Jerry Nolan featured on a few of them and he looked much like the way you describe Kane, there was also a book by Legs McNeil where one of the final pieces in the book describes Jerry Nolan's last days and its heartbreaking to read, Johnny Thunders' story is particularly depressing reading as well especially for one of the most talented guitarists that came out of that scene.

I think the most surprising thing for me was to see the remaining Dolls get back together, just a shame they never did it a lot sooner.

  14. Paul Verhoeven and David Fincher would be good choices for mega budget versions of Doom as long as they were allowed to make an 18 certificate Doom movie with lots of disturbing imagery and strong violence.

However, if the budget wasn't huge then the person i would choose to make a decent Doom film would be Neil Marshall, the guy who made Dog Soldiers and The Descent.

  15. In certain terms i would agree but this is not an ideal world, in my ideal world...George Romero would've written and directed Resident Evil and it would've been an eerie and gory straight 18 certificated movie but instead, we got a pile of bollocks directed by Paul Anderson and for teenagers who like Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

The George Romero script for Resident Evil was a thing of beauty. I still hate Capcom for rejecting it.

I read it years ago, its what a Resident Evil movie should've been.

Alright i want to dissect this whole issue a bit, here's a question for Sethos, Abhi, Mark, anyone else....if you could choose one director to direct the version of Doom that you'd like to see direct a movie that is a horror action movie featuring SPACE MARINES VERSUS DEMONS FROM HELL!!!!! as its prominent storyline, then who would you choose?

  16. 1. spiderman 1/2

    2. constantine/hellboy

    3. men in black 1/2

    4. batman begins

    5. dont know :)

You thought Constantine was a more fun and better movie than Batman Begins?!?!?!?!

    ?!?!?!?!?!?

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ???????????

Not only that Hagren, you also thought both Men In Black movies were also better than Batman Begins???????...  :o

  17. SPACE MARINES VERSUS DEMONS FROM HELL is the single greatest concept for a sci-fi/horror/action movie ever, and I will not listen to anyone who tries to tell me otherwise.

I agree entirely with Mark. I think you're thinking too much about what makes a good film, Kris. I do that too. But in this case I'm not looking for a good film but a fun film that would work on a visceral level than on a high art/intellectual/'makes sense' kind of way. I think that the right person could pull off a marines vs demons movie VERY well.

Well a high art/intellectual Doom movie directed by Peter Greenaway and written by Professor Stephen Hawking with space marine costume design by Jean Paul Gaultier is never likely to be made in the near future and yes, perhaps if the right person was found to make this SPACE MARINES VERSUS DEMONS FROM HELL concept then yes, perhaps there would be a glimmer of hope there but like i said before, computer game concepts work wonders for computer games but when they make the transition to film...then they usually end up shit.

Because lets face it, what would you have in the film thats extremely faithful to the game?, 45 minutes worth of monsters being shot? another 10 minutes of the main character trying to look for a medi-kit to boost his health up after being headbutted by a cacodemon, another 15 minutes to look for a blue key while wondering how to go about jumping over a lava pit?...obviously i am jesting.

But fuck you all and your great concepts, so off the top of my head....how about SPACE MARINES VERSUS THE BLOCKS FROM TETRIS!!!!!!????

  18. You're entitled to your opinion but the concept may sound good on paper and work in a computer game environment but making the concept come across well on film is another matter entirely...

My fingers are in my ears, my eyes are closed, and I WILL NOT HEAR OR SEE YOUR LIES.

You know i am right man, it won't pain you to admit it ;)

Besides Mark, which actor would you choose to play a cacodemon?

  19. SPACE MARINES VERSUS DEMONS FROM HELL is the single greatest concept for a sci-fi/horror/action movie ever, and I will not listen to anyone who tries to tell me otherwise.

You're entitled to your opinion but the concept may sound good on paper and work in a computer game environment but making the concept come across well on film is another matter entirely...

Such is the curse of computer games being made into films...

Resident Evil, House Of The Dead and Alone In The Dark being three prime examples of great computer games with great stories turned into shit films...

    There, i rest my case...

  20. Nah Abhi, i don't think it has anything to do with that, the concept of demons from Hell entering Mars through some kind of teleportation experiment gone wrong and taking over a space station seems a bit out of place for a potential sci-fi horror film to be taken seriously these days and I'd rather not see Satanic iconography myself on the grounds that i think that concept would make the film rather silly and would end up making the film look like a bigger budget version of John Carpenter's Ghosts Of Mars, what i would prefer to see is a film that combines the all-out action from Aliens with the disturbing body horror of The Thing.

Plus i would prefer to see some grotesque genetic experiment gone wrong type monsters instead of monsters that look like a pink version of Tim Curry's Lord Of Darkness from Legend throwing green fireballs around.
