  1. I've been playing The Warriors the past few days. So far, i've tagged the Warriors sign all over the Moonrunners' patch amidst a riot, beaten up 40 members of The Orphans gang and smashed up their leader's precious car, been chased to the tube station by the Baseball Furies, defended Coney Island from a Van Cortland Rangers attack and given a rival gang called The Destroyers a major asskicking on a few different levels.

  2. Fair do's. I remember going to the ICA in London to see the first Ring film and it was full of fucking twats like the ones you mention as well, to hear them talk about the film after it finished as we were all filing out the door was enough to send anyone into apoplectic rage, as if all these people were higher authorities on the subject of film-making than the film-makers themselves....wankers talking about fucking metaphors and symbolism and shit like that and you just want to grab them and say "its a fucking horror film, its meant to scare you, ITS NOT A METAPHOR FOR ANYTHING, THERE'S NO UNDERLYING PHILOSOPHY OR POLEMICS HERE, THIS IS NOT SARTRE OR KIERKEGAARD, ITS A FRIGGING HORROR MOVIE AND THATS ALL IT EVER FUCKING WAS....NOW PLEASE, SHUT THE FUCK UP".

  3. Then there are the prententious [over-used word]s I've had to deal with the last couple of weeks in the film festival. They only seem to pop up each year at the festival we never see them at any other time. It's apparently the event to be seen at so people can show of their appreciation for obscure European cinema. Same [over-used word]s that bought Brief History of Time and never read it.

Which festival is that then Inca?

I know which "pretentious [over-used word]s" you mean, they're usually the same people who think that going to see opera and ballet shows puts them on a higher intellectual plain to everybody else though.

However, i am a big fan of various European films so i am hoping i'm not being placed in the "pretentious [over-used word]" category

  4. Session 9:

Creepy as hell sums it up nicely. A very disturbing, atmospheric movie with a great cast (including a suprisingly not-crappy David Caruso). A great movie to watch and just be utterly creeped out by.

Is that the one set in a disused hospital of something? With a wheelchair on the front of the DVD case? If so, I've been meaning to track that down for a while.

Easy to track down, i bought mine on Ebay for about a quid.

  5. Session 9:

Creepy as hell sums it up nicely. A very disturbing, atmospheric movie with a great cast (including a suprisingly not-crappy David Caruso). A great movie to watch and just be utterly creeped out by.

Own a copy of that, Josh Lucas and Peter Mullan are in it too, certainly is an eerie movie though, that place they were getting rid of the asbestos from reminded me of a time when i was a teenager when we broke into a derelict mental hospital a few miles down the road from where i live.

The place is still there to this day, however these days the police and army use it for like weapons training and rapid response training.

  6. Actually it's not me. I have confronted my family about these things, and the very next day they tend to ignore them and continue on.

And really it's common sense. You yell at some one. You already know their gonna feel like shit.

You always talk about them yelling at you but you never actually tell any of us the reasons why they yell at you, i don't want to pry into your life but you talk a lot about this and the way you talk about them its as if they're some overbearing, tyrannical prison warden-type people who've taken you to this remote part of the world and confined you there.

I'v talked to them about this shit like 3x already. And they just do the same thing. each time. They ack knowlegde it, then later ignore it and go about yelling at me for every other little thing.

Well this is merely a one-sided story from our point of view on these boards, none of us know what your attitude is like towards your parents during these conversations.

Well the reason I am moping around is because they forced me to move with them into the woods. Where the job market is bellow -1, and The fact that I was taken away from my friends. ALL of my friends live 6 hours away. I'd move into an apartment. But guess what? THERE ARE NO APARTMENTS UP HERE! none, 0, zelch. Just about everybody up here has to BUY a HOUSE. Not to mention the fact that I can't go anywhere because I dont have my license or a car. And yes I have discussed this with them too.

You're 22 years old, you can think and speak for yourself, "they forced me to move with them into the woods"?, how? by gunpoint?, come on man even thats such a lame excuse for not getting up off your arse and doing something about your life.

What you really ought to do is go into further education, go to college somewhere, focus on bettering yourself and bettering your life, get yourself a job there and some new mates, i don't know if its fear and trepidation holding you back but like i said, you have to take a chance and spread your wings, you're going to get nowhere just sitting around and moaning about how the world is against you, its not an impossible task and it merely requires a bit of motivation.

I'm merely echoing what everyone has said to you time and time again but one thing i notice about your responses is that you're very abrupt and dismissive and never really seem to take any advice on board, if you don't want us to help you or if you're prepared to pay heed to our advice then i am sorry to say this but people won't appreciate your ungrateful attitude, i realise you're frustrated and angry and pissed off, i would be too if i was in your situation and i have been in a situation too where i never had a job and had no car but the determination to better my situation was always there and thats what spurred me on to improving my life.

There's a lot of people on this board who've spent time answering to your posts and trying to give you advice but like Mark said, if you're not prepared to pursue any of these options and continue to moan about it all then people will grow tired of your complaints and their patience with you will wear very thin.

What i suggest first of all is - Change your attitude and start appreciating the advice people on this board is giving you and being a tad more grateful for it, it might not last too much longer at this rate.

Secondly, discuss these options and advice with your parents, tell them you'd like to pursue further education and that you'd also like to go about getting your driver's license, make them believe that you want to actively do something with your life and want to make your own way in the world, perhaps your attitude will make them think different of you.

Thirdly, when you've thought about what you want to do, GO AND ACTUALLY DO IT.

Yes, in the long run, sacrifices like cutting down on the video games and the comics will need to carried out but in the long run, your life will be all the better for it.

I have nothing against you Wolvy but i've read a lot of your posts where you talk about how bad your life is and i think victimising yourself and blaming your boredom and frustrations on everyone else instead of actually admitting that its all down to your own inability to do something about your own situation, i am sorry but your complaints don't wash with me very well i am afraid and i think making your parents scapegoats for all your woes is rather selfish to be honest especially as they are still providing you with a roof over their head and food in your stomach.

I am sorry to be so harsh but you really do need a good kick in the backside and i think you know that yourself better than anyone.

  7. It's always so amusing how people in the older generations don't "get" punk.  8-)

A "punk" in Burroughs' world, particularly in a book of his like Junky or Queer refers to a rentboy/hustler type.

His quote was rooted deep in humour, its not a misinterpretation in any way.

  8. Getting more and more depressed as time goes on. And I now know why. It's my family.

They force me to move to a place I didnt want to go to. Then force me to do chores. And the only thing I get for it..Is yelled out..for every little thing that happens. It just makes things worse. Not to mention the fact that the job market sucks ass up here. And I'v been stuck in the house from day 1. Just doent make living here any easier. Thankfully I am gonna be visiting my best friend on friday for a few days. Cuz I want to get as far away from the house as humanly possible. It's driving me mad.

Sorry if i sound brutal here Wolvy but you go on and on and on and on about this plight or struggle you have and one thing i always notice about every post you make - you always blame someone else for your troubles.

Don't you get tired of being pissed off all the time? don't you get bored of feeling depressed? Don't you think its about time you started doing something yourself about your problems instead of dwelling upon them and simply moaning about them on this messageboard? don't you ever think the problem lies with yourself and the fact you can't be bothered to sort out your own problems and expect others to do it for you?

You know, i hate to say this Wolvy and it sounds like a cliche but the way you go on, you make it sound like you're a victim who's been dealt the cruddiest hand in life and that there isn't anyone else in this world who's got a shittier life than you, you know there's an infinite number of possibilities and prospects out there for someone of your age to go out and pursue but all you ever do is come on here and constantly display this defeatist attitude to everything and blame everyone else but yourself.

Sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith and just get out there and do something with your life to make yourself happy, no-one is going to hand it to you on a platter.

Does it ever occur to you that your folks yell at you because they're maybe sick and tired of you sitting around and doing nothing with your life other than moping around and moaning about how bad you think your life is?

Like i said, i am sorry if i am being brutal but its because i am being honest with you and what i think about the messages you tend to post on this thread, i am not the first person who's told you to give yourself a kick up the arse and do something about your situation either, its no use sitting around and expecting something to happen or waiting for it to get better, maybe try sitting down with your folks and having a chat with them about the way you're feeling and whats on your mind and tell them how unhappy you are and ask them why they yell at you so much.

You won't get anywhere burying your head in the sand man, you got to solve your own problems and stand up for yourself.

  9. How was the new Harvey PEkar issue? If I had a real comic book store that just didn't stock Marvel, DC and Image I'd of picked it up this week. I  know DC released it which is great for Harvey.

I been holding my response to you for a wee while until i actually got up to speed with my reading habits, as they've been lagging behind for a few weeks...

It was well worth the money, it basically tells the story of Pekar's younger days growing up in Cleveland and goes into detail about his education, his preoccupations with street fighting and record collecting and all the various jobs he has had.

Would make an excellent film too if it ever got made, just like American Splendor was.

  10. I'm getting into this Lucifer trade. I think I like it better than Mike Carey's Hellblazer stuff, actually. Anyway, I don't know anything about this comic, what do I get next?

Please help, I know a few of you read it.

    Thankyou.

Oh, it's Devil In The Gateway, btw.

I bought all the trades but have never had time to read any of them because i have been so bloody busy recently but finally got round to reading Devil In The Gateway two nights ago at work.

He's a charming, manipulative and deceitful bugger is Mr. Morningstar...going to start reading the second trade tonight.

  11. Leather pants are great if you're riding a motorbike, but I don't personally think many men can pull the look off.

    Those who could:

    Elvis

    Jim Morrison

    Julian Cope

    Hugh Jackman in X-men

And we'll add Iggy Pop to that list as well if you don't mind

  12. I just wonder why the image anyone may want to project is social reject rather than someone who can talk openly and amusingly with people of the opposite sex.

For fuck's sake, some of the stuff I've received off the boards makes threads like this look like a Jane Austin novel, but I choose to deal with that with humour or simply ignore it.

Also there is a lot of posturing bullshit on these boards, if some of that is counterbalanced by innuendo, fluffiness or general crap I make no apologies for that. I do sense a double standard, but I don't complain about it.

I am confused by your reaction to what i wrote as i don't really believe i am in any position or authority to go telling people how to act on messageboards, i was commenting on what i have seen from past experiences on other messageboards of how threads like these can sometimes tend to go.

As far as i can see all of the messages posted on here have been nothing but harmless friendly banter and have been posted with no malice or prurience whatsoever and even if there was then i am sure someone on these boards would've brought that up with that poster.

With your points about bullshit posturing on these boards, i agree there are many instances and examples of such behaviour and i agree wholeheartedly with what you say about counterbalancing all that with good humour and friendly banter, which these boards are more than full of courtesy of people like yourself, the K Brothers, Inca and Spider, i also prefer to take the same tact hence the endless torrent of silly crap i post up myself.

The double standards comment is again something that confuses me as no-one is criticising you or telling you off for anything you've posted or anything a female poster on these boards has contributed to any other thread on these boards.

It's like the guys can say what they like but anything we post is viewed as going down the same route as the dating thread.

Please don't play that card Keeyah, its a ridiculous and easy cop-out argument to suggest there is any kind of favour towards what the male members of this messageboard post up than what the female members of this messageboard post up, these messageboards are as open-minded and liberal as they can be and i have never seen any evidence to support such a claim.

As far as i know there isn't a male messageboard members' Mafia residing on these boards flexing their muscles and ready to enforce their own brand of messageboard justice whenever they think a thread dishonours the masculinity of the forum.

P.S Beki, don't let any of my comments or anyone else's dissuade you from posting on this thread and all over this messageboard, this place is all the better for having people as refreshing and as positive as yourself posting around here.

  13. Oh you mean maybe the threads that fawn over Angelins Jolie, the multiple Britney Spears threads, the Jude Law's cock thread, the threads where guys get to talk dirty about girls without actually any, y'know, real life girls in them? Or the numerous "I'm straight, but here's a list of guys I'd shag" threads?

Do we all have to put disclaimers in our sigs, like Rogan?

I would hope not, last thing anyone wants is a load of Draconian rules dictating what people write on a messageboard such as this, i am not going to pontificate on what i believe to be "good messageboard etiquette" either as i am in no position to tell anyone off for their behaviour on here, these threads don't offend or bother me in any way but i can see why some people might see the negative side to them.

And i agree with you Beki, the threads you mention above are also full of testostorone-ridden bullshit at times and are a far lot worse than anything said on this thread, i think the difference between threads like those above and threads like this and the Dating thread are that they have the potential to descend into flaming and bitchiness or are chock full of juvenile flirting which tend to consist of crass innuendos and dodgy euphemisms, and i am not saying they will descend into such playground behaviour but i think maybe the point is that there's so many of these types of threads around that perhaps they shouldn't be encouraged so much because they have the potential to cause more grief than they're worth, or that others may feel offended by them.

I am not having a go at you here nor do i disapprove of this thread, they generally don't bother me but i have seen enough threads of this ilk to know that they can go over the top.

Anyway, this is me merely speculating on why some people might not like them and i am not saying you're wrong for starting up such a thread, i know your intentions are to have a bit of fun and to try to inject some humour into proceedings on here, much like i do with the stuff i post, so please don't think i am having a dig at you.

By the way, always wondered where Draconia was in the world...must be a really boring place to live with all those rules

  14. This is me agreeing with Mojo. While my favourite book was actually Family Values, I found the short story collection to be severely lacking, and Hell and Back to be absolute wank.

The problem with Hell And Back is that it has the potential to be an excellent story but is instead a self-indulgent load of tripe that doesn't have to have a narrative structure to it at all, i have read a few interviews of Rodriguez singing its praises and seen Johnny Depp's name linked to the project a few times now but why Miller and Rodriguez would devote a large chunk of the third Sin City film to that one story is beyond me, i don't think its a strong enough idea to hold its own in a film unless they weaved some other stories around it.

  15. Well, for the sake of the thread topic, i am going to say "Nope".

I am on the same fence as Mark and John with these sort of threads though, i know they're a bit of harmless fun but they can make for cringeworthy reading at times having seen various examples on other messageboards in the past and they usually end up in some misunderstanding or flaming battle between four or five posters vying for the attention of one of the very few female posters on that messageboard or it descends into some creepy innuendo-laden cybersex thread full of testostorone, euphemisms and irksome laddish behaviour.

And yes, i know its easier to ignore such threads which is why i tend not to contribute to them or even read them but i can kind of see where McMahon is coming from with this one.

I am not saying anything like this is happening on this thread but i agree with Mark's point saying threads can leave a misleading impression to newcomers, i think there are other threads on these boards that give a better and more welcoming impression to newcomers and say more about what our community is like in general.

But for the record, i'm no prude and these threads don't put my nose out of joint either.

  16. Wendy is seen briefly in A Dame To Kill for, the latter part of which is set on the same night as The Big Goodbye - she and Marv drive past Dwight, who's in (if I remember correctly) some kind of camper van.

I imagine she'll have a bigger part than that though, i don't think Rodriguez would cast her again for a brief "blink and you'll miss her" cameo role.

Rodriguez mentions both Wendy and Goldie's inclusion in A Dame To Kill For in this interview though... http://www.comicbookmovie.com/news/articles/2253.asp

although i can't remember actually seeing them in the book.

And I wouldn't trust the Cinematical article, since it's based on a Wikipedia entry, which can be edited by anyone and is therefore likely to be bullshit fan wishing

Well the Nancy story isn't bullshit as Frank Miller has went on record saying that he is writing a new story featuring Nancy at the moment, as for the Hartigan story and the other featuring some new character, well we'll wait and see but Frank Miller has said during the making of Sin City that he's had new ideas for new graphic novels so perhaps these ideas will make their way into these new Sin City movie and television projects in some form or another.

Nancy killing a bunch of people to avenge Hartigan would remove the ending of all its poignancy, which is why I imagine Miller wouldn't even consider it.

I couldn't really believe in Nancy Callaghan becoming some kind of gun-toting avenging angel either but i am sure whatever Frank Miller is planning, its going to be interesting regardless.

  17. I guess they could use the one-shot stories (with some padding, as they're doing with Sin City 2's take on A Dame to Kill For); thaty would give them six or seven episodes. They could also serialise the bigger ones like To Hell and Back.

Hell And Back is going to be adapted for the third Sin City film i have been led to believe as Rodriguez has spoken about making that one with Johnny Depp as Wallace.

It makes me think Frank Miller may write some new stories like he is doing for the second Sin City movie, the word on the grapevine with the second film is that A Dame To Kill For will be the prominent storyline alongside a new storyline written by Frank Miller.

    http://www.cinematical.com/2005/10/17/sin-city-2-spoilers/

This link here kind of sheds light in what Miller might be planning with some of his new stuff.

    However, this link...

    http://www.comics2film.com/FanFrame.php?f_id=15399

has thrown me a bit for the reason that both Powers Boothe(Senator Roark) and Jaime King(Goldie/Wendy) are returning for the second film, which leads me to believe there must be some new storylines as neither those characters appear in any of the other stories in the graphic novels apart from That Yellow Bastard and The Hard Goodbye.

  18. sesshoumarou - you're a better man than I. I'd pick job searching over joining the army these days, anytime.

eh, its just something Ive always wanted to do. At least this way I get to be an officer and get paid some halfway decent money.

I almost went down that route a few years ago, i sent a request for an application pack and got a call back the next day from some posh guy who was so posh that he had a quadruple-barrelled surname and he invited me down to Edinburgh for officer training(because you have to put your academic details in), which is apparently usually the case for university graduates apparently, although i was merely enquiring about having an application pack sent out to me so i could peruse it at my leisure.

At the time i said i would think about it but around that time there was dialogue between Britain and America possibly going to war with Iraq and thus i ended up declining their offer that same week on those grounds, mainly because i had been involved in various local anti-war campaigns and had DJ'ed at an anti-war event that year too and wanted to stick to my beliefs and principles.

However, i hear it can be a good career move for some people, if thats what you want to do then don't let anybody stop you.
