I'm not drunk. I am wretchedly hungover.
Right now coffee seems like the only solution but also something that will make me feel even worse. Ginyarg.

I feel bad, I have distracted this thread from Jessie and Balthazar's amazing victories with thoughts of tidying-up.
In other news, I was given free fruit by green grocers because I helped a lady with her shopping!
-
And eat a lot of fruit. I've been making an equally ill Lady Venkman a lot of fruit smoothies with chillies in them which seem to have done the trick!
Get well soon, mate!

Sounds like a common nightmare for all of us would be being trapped in a protracted phone conversation with a pushy Christian group on speakerphone.

Bah - thought I'd posted! Sorry :mong:
In short, I really really enjoyed it. I was the only one in our group of four who'd already read the book but we all seemed to enjoy it just as much. What was interesting was that the little bullied boy Oskar was completely different from the one I had imagined - but I preferred the one in the film to the one I had in my head. Surely that's a rarity.
There was a lot excised from the book, some of which I would have liked to have seen on screen but nothing which detracted from enjoying the film. Details aside, what you should take away from both book and film is the relationship between 12 year old Oskar and seemingly 12-year old Eli. To stop banging on about the book for a minute, I felt that it was really nicely paced, very very pretty (although sometimes a shot of spooky trees could have been a few seconds shorter - but that's just my MTV brain saying it) and the music was minimal in all the right places and swelled in all the right places. The special effects were especially effective because they were so subtly done (vampire Eli jumping off a climbing frame a bit too gracefully, for example). This only went awry during one scene with some CGI cats, simply because it was noticably CGI in a film that looked realistic everywhere else.
The only real complaint I had was in its third-quarter where it felt like it was rushing a bit too much and intercutting between different plots was a bit confusing as the detail got lost as to whose apartment we were in etc. (this bit also featured the CGI cats) But despite a wobbly 10 minutes, the film then really picks itself back up with the ending. Scary stuff in terms of the human horror but then we are treated to a penultimate scene that knocked it out the park. As sweet and tender as it is horrific and impressive. Best of both worlds.

Well that's me in the middle shot. I know I said I loathe myself in the other thread, but I'm not quite onto the self-harm yet

A wedding at the weekend had the beautiful notion of us all lighting little paper lanterns and releasing them.
Blurry but still quite nice crowd shot.
I have a go.
And off they go, quietly into the night.

Generally, I hate talking on the phone. I don't have any problem introducing myself to people in person (actually I do - but I have developed ways round my crippling fear of people) but I just can't stand talking on the phone.
-
Nicely done, Balthazar. Hope you're happy with it!! Do give us the details as well.
Now, more in the spirit of this thread, I tidied my desk this evening. It is now possible to sit at.

Good for you, Dogpoet.
Mine was some development work that I was trying to cadge, I had a meeting in January and they said follow up in February. I did and haven't heard back. Should've phoned em to find out what was happening. I emailed 'em instead.
Ugh.
-
I just chickened out of an important phone call about some potential work and sent an email instead.
I loathe myself.

I'm a bit grumpy with stuff at the moment, but maybe I should cheer up a little when fate means I find myself idly channel-hopping only to just catch the TV announcer saying "and now on Channel 4...Ghostbusters"
-
Yay!! That is fantastic, Jessie!!!
I trust you're suitably stoked? Glad you have plans for the money that involve fun as well as being thrifty. I hope you look back at this time in years to come and think 'fah, remember when my writing genius was *only* worth $10,000?'
I am so bloody chuffed for you, you clever thing and can't wait to read it whenever we can get our hands on it x

Am off out to see 'Let the Right One In' right now

I am having a go at blogging every single day in April so it would be great if anyone wanted to pop by and say Hi.

Wow. You sound like you're thriving, Avaunt! Good luck staying undetected.

Just heard from DC that John Cassaday has finished PLANETARY #27. Ravens have left Tower Of London. -
My girlfriend is away for the weekend and I have lots of work to get finished by monday. I may not get dressed at all and just swoop around in my dressing gown for a few days...

Dave, you look exactly the opposite I imagined. But your looks are still cool, I must admit.
I think everybody's looks are cool.
Likewise. Especially as, on some weird level, I just assume people look like their avatars until I see otherwise!

Oh wow - were you guys on a train?
Are trains that exciting to you?
