Sephardim comes from the Hebrew word for Spain, it's the Jews who were exiled from Spain to Arab lands, around 1/2 of Israel (technically Iraqis and Yemenite jews aren't Sephardim but they have the same rites and dialect). Don't want to start another Israel discussion, but second-generation Ashkenazim are Sabras too, it's inaccurate to act like there's a huge cultural division, but there is a bit.
