  1. Maybe he will raid the Treasury and take off for so-not-Communist North Korea, Brazil, or Poland to hide out before January happens.

    ——————

A number of world leaders have texted to congratulate Biden and Harris on winning the election. You know things are getting real when world leaders send their congratulations.

    Meanwhile, Trump was playing golf.

  2. I am reading Unamerica by Cody Goodfellow. This is Goodfellow’s response to the Trump presidency.

It’s a dystopia, but Goodfellow is a “gonzo”-type writer, so it has more in common with William Burroughs than with Orwell.

It’s about Capitalism, religious fundamentalism, opioid addiction, “illegal” immigration, and the prison system. Told in a style that wouldn’t be considered dissimilar to the New Wave sci-fi or Cyberpunk sub-genre.

  3. Trump obviously had this as his back-up plan all along, once he got a major majority in the Supreme Court, and to then take the election to the Supreme Court.

It doesn’t make sense for Trump to tell his voters to show up in person at the polls and not use mail-in votes. Otherwise, that looks like a really poor election strategy.

Why show up in person to vote? Not even considering an epidemic, but you have to stand in long lines. It’s November, which is cold in half of the states. Most people need to go after work, when it’s dark, and they’re tired. If you had a choice, why not just sit home and mail in your ballot?

Yet, Trump tells his voters to not do this.

  4. Some of these Republicans who are trying to save face for Trump are hilarious.

Trump tweeted, “When you count every legal vote, I win. If you exclude the illegal votes, I win.”

Some Republicans attacked reporters for saying that Trump is claiming the election was fraudulent and trying to get mail-in votes stricken from the count.

They said, “You aren’t listening to what Trump is saying. You are trying to make Trump look bad. He is quite obviously saying that he wants every legal vote to be counted. That’s what we all want.”

Disregard exactly what Trump means when he refers to these hypothetical “Illegal” votes in his second sentence.

Yeah, that’s what he means Republican loyalists in Congress, keep telling yourself that and ignore his latest temper tantrum.

The guy said that the election was rigged in 2016, and then he won, so who knows? heh

  5. Then get stuck with Pence as president...no, just no.

The Democrats don’t have that much of a majority in the House and the Republicans still have a majority in the Senate, so the Dems aren’t taking Congress anyway. Plus, the Supreme Court is heavily Republican now.

I’d be much more comfortable with the idea of Trump winning if there were strong checks and balances on what he is able to accomplish, instead of getting his every little whim. If Congress had a major Democrat majority and the Supreme Court was still at least equal, I wouldn’t dread the idea of Trump getting reelected. The current situation isn’t anywhere close to that optimal.

Plus, most of these unconstitutional laws that were passed over the past fifty years expanding Executive power, so that the president can enact policies without having to allow a Congressional vote, really need to be abolished.

  6. The weirdest election possibly ever continues with Day 2 of more craziness.

Biden just took Michigan. He is leading in Nevada. If he takes Nevada, he will have the exact number he needs to win.

However, if Trump wins the last three states (where he is currently leading: Penn, Georgia, N Carolina), I believe that he would then have the exact number he needs to win too.

So, if Biden loses in Nevada, then he loses.

We could have a tie, with both candidates having the exact number they need to win.

Trump is currently calling for recounts in Michigan and Wisconsin also.

  7. I think, regardless of the results, we can all agree that the biggest news coming out of the elections is that Oregon has legalized psychedelic mushrooms.

No matter what the next four years bring, we should be comforted to recognize that Oregon is now, officially, the coolest state.

They also decriminalized ownership of small amounts of any other illicit substances.

Instead of jailing people for using these other drugs, Oregon is going to spend the money on greatly increasing addiction treatment.

    —————————-

Less interesting, but still worth noting, Conservative states South Dakota and Montana voted to legalize marijuana. They are the first two Republican-majority states to legalize it.

Also, New Jersey and Arizona legalized it. Arizona has now moved in to the light, it seems. Voting against Trump and for marijuana legalization. Something that seemed impossible for Arizona just four years ago.

Still, it shouldn’t come as a total surprise that even hardcore Red states like South Dakota and Montana were willing to vote yes. They have a very tiny minority population, after all.* So, what’s the point of not collecting that extra tax dollars?

*I dated a woman from Montana once. Needless to say, she found Flint to be quite a culture shock.

Still noticeable is that no traditionally southern states have voted to legalize. These are going to be the big holdouts (if Congress doesn’t enact change), as putting African-American people in jail for choosing to smoke pot is something that the “Good Ol’ Boys” are going to refuse to give up. How else can they keep them in “their place” in the 21st century thanks to federal meddling that did away with segregation?

  8. Michigan is now at 96% reporting. I see that Genesee County (Flint) is showing Democrat after all. It was a major surprise to see Flint voting Trump all night long. It made no sense to me.

It would be crazy to watch Trump declare himself the true president and set up a new capital at Trump Tower, and telling all his followers to follow him there. While Washington DC continues on with Biden as president.

  9. I guess if you want to console yourself over the election results, WSWS is reporting that Trump is probably going to be only the second president to be elected to a second term with less electoral college votes than his first victory.

Obama was apparently the first, after the mass disillusionment for Obama after his first term.

That shows there isn’t growing popularity for Trump over the past four years, at least.

He actually lost Right-Wing Arizona this time, after dominating polls there last time.

  10. 1:00 am-It’s pretty much over. With Texas, the results are basically tied. Neither candidate can outright win.

The remaining states up for grabs, almost all of them are showing Trump leading. Trump won Florida.

Trump is going to have more delegates than Biden when it goes to the electoral college.

    Trump won.

It looks like the Senate is going to a slight Republican majority also.

The House has a definite Republican majority.

So, there we are. Trump has just become unstoppable. He owns the government.

What’s that I hear? “Twelve more years! Twelve more years!” I hear his followers chant.

    If only Iran was right....

  11. What happens if Biden has a heart attack while waiting for the results? Is there anything that covers that possibility? Does Kamala Harris just immediately take Biden’s place?

Ah, Iranian State media is the best. I should follow the election solely on that website.

”It does not matter to us who wins. With one candidate, America falls soon. With the other candidate, America will take longer to fall. Still, it will fall. No matter the outcome, the fall of America is guaranteed.”

Do they have a source for this news? I’d like to know more. Can they truly guarantee the coming fall of America?

I mean, it seems to have been falling for the past 19 years, but it somehow keeps hanging on year after year. I fear this may be fake news, no matter how much we may hope otherwise.

Well, unless that “fall” entails the breakup of the US in to a multitude of ethnonationalist States. Then, I’d rather not see that happen.

  12. This is like a fucking sporting event. The media keeps you on the edge of your seat. Back and forth, forth and back. Biden pulls way ahead of Trump at 11:00 as he gets California, Washington, and Oregon.

Unfortunately, California looks like Biden’s last big breakthrough.

Trump is still going to take Texas.

I don’t see any other states for Biden to take that is going to get him elected. He needs either Michigan, Florida, or Georgia and all of them are currently showing Trump in the lead...

I don’t see either getting the total majority they need to get elected. It’s looking like this is going to come down to the electoral college again....Fuck.

  13. Checking in at 9:45, this looks like an absolutely crazy election. All over the place.

I can’t believe Republicans are dominating Michigan so much as of now. The official tally hasn’t come in for MI yet. The map is showing every county in the state, except for Detroit’s with Trump having a major lead (including Flint!). Detroit is showing Biden as having a major lead.

Florida is a close race. The tally is nearly complete there. Trump has 51% at the moment. It looks like he’s winning Florida though.

  14. Surprisingly, Campbell didn’t even make the cut. I was shocked.

The one story I read was by John Langan. Quite a bit outside the Campbell circuit.

There were some other good names included: Lisa Tuttle, Brian Evenson, David Nickle, Michael Cisco. Those names immediately leap out.

  15. There was a tribute to Robert Aickman anthology. It was called Aickman’s Heirs and was edited by Simon Strantzas from 2015.

It had all new stories, so nothing by Lee was included.

I can’t speak for the quality of it, because I think I’ve only read one story that was included, but it did win the Shirley Jackson Award (and get nominated for two others).

  16. I’ve actually never come across any of Tanith Lee’s story collections. I have so many of her short stories in anthologies, I decided to not go out of my way to find any of her collections, because of the amount of repeat stories I would get.

I’m sure I’m missing out on some gems still by not bothering with her collections....like “The Gorgon”.

I know of it being in two other anthologies.

It was first published in one of Charles Grant’s Shadows anthologies which I don’t own.

It was also in the Asimov edited Bestiary anthology, but I own most of the stories included in that book, so I decided not to get that one.

  17. I found that Paula Guran’s recent anthology, Mythic Journeys, was on sale.

It’s a collection of retold mythological stories by fantasy writers.

Wow! Is this thing loaded towards Greek and Norse mythology.

The book is 456 pages, and only thirteen stories are not based in either Greek or Norse mythology.

There are even two stories based around the Minotaur. I mean, one of the stories is horrible and hard to figure out exactly how it’s anything resembling a “retelling” of the myth of the Minotaur. Still, it seems like Guran might have tried to broaden the contents.

On the plus side, it reprinted “Gorgon” by Tanith Lee, which I have never read. The idea of retelling myths is quite loose here. It was an excellent story that is actually non-genre. So, points for that.

  18. Ryan North is a good writer.

I probably still won’t bother with it. It reminds me of the Itty Bitty Hellboy comics though.

I didn’t bother to buy those comics either.

    —————————

John-It can’t be canon. It says that John has parents. So, how do we square that with continuity? Huh? How?

Now, if this comic had a very special message where John’s dad sat down with him and explained about the dangers of “back-alley” abortions, I would have bought this book in an instant.

    ————————-

I suppose that maybe fans could be angry that DC couldn’t be bothered to continue the best HB comic in nearly two decades beyond twelve issues, but they can put out a kid-friendly graphic novel using the character.

  19. Oh, I remembered it as Zatanna. It was Death.

Yes, but apparently he was supposed to be learning from the PSA. So, at the very least, you’d expect that he was going to start after learning about things like STDs.

The guy had a friend who died of AIDS. You’d expect he wasn’t in the PSA because he needs to learn about STDs. You know?

I’m trying to think if there were any other major DC-owned male characters regularly appearing in a Vertigo Comic at the time.

She may have chose John simply because Swamp Thing wouldn’t exactly work for the role.

Besides, I was fucking embarrassed about that whole PSA in a Vertigo comic. I don’t blame John for being embarrassed to get roped in to that scene. It was pretty cringe worthy.
