  1. Branagh's "Hamlet" is a masterpiece, setting the story in a different time period was a risky move but effective in the end. The movie has a fast pacing, the sets and costumes are eyecandy, from the hall of mirrors to the black and white contrast between Hamlet's outfit and the environment that surrounds him. Branagh's performance is outstanding, his usual cast is impecable and the guest actors get the most ouf of their roles as small as they may be.

Othello, what can I say? It's neatly played out, an impecable adaptation, Branagh's performance shines throughout the film and Laurence Fishburne is great too but the story itself has never been my cup of tea, I prefer "Much a do about nothing", I know it's a lighter play but the balance between comedy and drama is magnificent. Besides, you have to give credit to Branagh as a director, getting a good performance from Denzel Washington may be like taking a walk in the park for him, but doing the same with Keanu Reaves must be a really hard task.

I'd love to see a McBeth movie adaptation by Branagh.

  2. Thanks! I do enjoy Dr. Who, in fact, right now I'm buying (not all of them at once, of course) the DVD's from the Baker years and the first two seasons of the new show.

By the way, I forgot to mention a few things when I introduced myself: I'm 31, single (still searching for the right girl), live in the city of Guayaquil (Ecuador) and have British and Spanish roots. Regarding education, I have a Major in Social Communication.

My hobbies include comics (obviously), sci-fi and fantasy books, music (huge blur fan or anything involving Damon Albarn) and MOVIES more than anything, my favorites are Star Wars (all chapters), Trainspotting, Snatch, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp fiction, Henry V (Kenneth Brannagh version) and...well, I just realized the list is too long so I'll stop there but not without mentioning the fact that I'm a huge fan of the horror genre, my guilty pleasure is watching B-horror movies.

I'm also a smoker (Marlboro red), drink in social occasions and go clubbing every weekend.

I think that's it (for now at least).

  3. Andres, if you want I can change the e-mail on your old account so you can use that again. Or I can delete your old account and rename this one to Andreas1976.

Thanks a lot, that's very thoughtful of you but I think I'll keep this username and e-mail, one reason is that I'd like a new start over here and the other is because I've rediscovered Dr. Who, hence the users' name, the numbers stand for the fourth and tenht incarnations of the Doctor.

It's hard to believe there are people that don't know what Dr. Who is about but there are a lot of them over here in Ecuador. The last time I got a glimpse of the the Doc was more than 20 years ago when a local network broadcasted it and all I remembered about the show is that it had elements of sci-fi and that it featured a weird looking main character (now I know said character was the Dr. as interpreted by Tom Baker). Recently I got the chance to catch the new series on cable and I got hooked up...uh...how did I end talking about the Dr.?...ummm...oh! yes! because of my username...anyway thanks again for the offer but I'd rather stick with my actual username and mail.

P.S.: Cool pic of you and your mates!

  4. Hi there! I'm writing these lines to REINTRODUCE myself. Previosly I posted a couple of commentaries here under the name andres1976 but had to register again because the mail address with which I registered the first time is no longer valid (I used my former job's outlook mail).

Anyway, just wanted to say hello and tell you once again what a magnificent website this is, your knowledge on good old John never ceases to amaze me and through your forums I keep learning each day a little more about my favorite con-man.

    Cheers...
