  1. oooo the ghost in the smoke (proof that smoking is bad for you!).

I love these covers, they really capture something about John, it must be so difficult to come after someone like Tim, who captured what is the quintessential John to many of us, but the new style makes the transition really well (for me at least... EDIT: for most others as well by the sounds of it, ace.)

I must have missed the solicitation for #224 but reading between the lines here, I'm guessing John and Chris survive the end of Empathy (ta dum), now they've got 5 issues to tackle the drugs problem in Glasgow by the sounds of it  .
  2. That's just too cool.
    Don't pamper to him....

...but yes owning a piece of artwork that amazing would be ok I 'spose, not that I'm in anyway envious you see. I'm just going to go and stare at my Bradstreet prints to regain my karma.

  3. Happy Birthday Charlie, sorry it's late (Happy Birthday to anyone I've missed recently as well). It's just that with two kids you never seem to get any time to yourself  ....

...only joking (oh and by the way, word is that if your good lady goes past the drop date, that thing that you want but can't have is a good fun way to get things moving again wink wink).

  4. Interesting debate, I guess I'd better nail my colours firmly to the mast and say I've really enjoyed this run, the old cliche of reviews being subjective holds as true as ever, and most entertainment products these days seem to live and die by their sales/exposure vs expected sales/exposure, so I guess we'll see how things are going over the next few months. I dropped Hellblazer at the end of Delano's run and didn't pick up again until half way through Carey's run - no regrets on the Azzerello arcs (read thanks to the local Public Library department) but I do wish I'd stuck with it more during some of the other fantastic stuff. Maybe that's why I'm still enjoying it so much? Personally though I think it's probably beause life is so hectic at the moment that I don't really notice the time flying past between each issue, so the story, albeit muddled and slow paced - (that perversly is not meant as negative criticism), contiues to unsettle my confidence in John and then leave me feeling trapped in a weird occult 70s style horror but desperate to know what happens next.

And Manco is a God, so there

  5. You've all turned your back on Mina!

There is a lot of hatin' going on in the #221 thread. Saddens me.

I guess Christian's comments are tongue in cheek but don't get too carried away guys, I think there's just several forumites who don't like this run but there are just as many, if not more who do (myself being in the happy camp). I've just read the negative reviews on #221 and the points are valid but only from a personal point of view (but hey that's why we have a forum). Anyway maybe this issue will make the mind up of some of the undecided, and, for me, it looks great, the story (yes another memory wipe spell - but let's just roll with it) is definitely heading towards an unpleasant partial ending (I'm guessing there will be fallout in the next arc?) and, again on a personal level, the only debate I need to have on Manco is on what level of awesome he's at this month, I just love his work, I have favourite panels and issues and obviously one's which I find less satisfying but I never ever feel short changed.

  6. Great cover Tim, did you come up with the idea of a death squad or was it in the brief?

Like some others have said it would be an ace premise for a comic series, appearing out of the mist in really fucked up situations to exact vengeance on whoever is committing atrocities, looking like a ashen faced group of hard arsed veterans, only glimpsing their true forms when caught in the flashes of the firefight  sorry too much lateral thinking.

I once walked into a back alley woodcarver's shop in a little town called Lewes down south (near Brighton), to be confronted with an eight feet torso of Eddie staring down the stairs ... apparently the guy had been commissioned to produce a carved Eddie for one of their tours, I think it must have been an early one cos Eddie had that sort of punk hair style frm the killers album. Very weird.

great to see you back (briefly) how's fatherhood?

  7. And Ronaldo did what he did for the benefit of his team--- the Portugese National Team....
and that makes it ok?? Look we've had to put up with him and his big girl antics over here week in week out, he's a proper bona fide wanker, so with tongue firmly in cheek, we're just grateful of an excuse to give him a bit of jip.

On the Rooney card, I still think it wasn't even a yellow, hacked from all around he just stood his ground aggressively... Try the following at home: go and get three blokes to push you around, push back just as hard and when they kick you off balance see how hard your foot goes down in order to not lose your footing and try guiding that foot to a one foot square marked on the floor (ie. the only bit of grass his foot could have ended up without catching some part of the grounded Carvalho).... I'll also repeat this, can any of you blokes honestly say that if someone of Rooney's stature stamped hard on your bollocks you could have got up 2 minutes later and ran around a football pitch for another hour?

Plus the final piece of overwhelming evidence: the moment you find yourself in agreement with Sepp Blatter is the moment you know you've got it wrong!

  8. Abhi, you might have already got some of this in trades but Nemesis the Warlock was my all time favourite horro/fantasy character from 2000AD. There's a pretty comprehensive site at: http://www.dreamnation.fsnet.co.uk/nemesis.html

which lists the episodes he appeared in along with the awesome Torquemada - Be Pure, Be Vigilant, Behave!

You can read the his first main appearance in a story (Terror Tube - inspired by The Jam song Down in the Tube Station) online at the 2000AD site (you have to register though).

The first episodes as an ongoing character were from 222-233. Absolutely fantastic - I'm going to have to great the trades after looking all this up again ( My Dad threw away all my boxes of 2000AD that I'd left in the loft from #1 to somewhere in the 700's :icon_cry: )

  9. With all due respect to the citizens of Italy and France, this thread just won't recover from the elimination of Brazil and their fans.
While I completely understand the sentiment, and have a dark and secret desire to be taught the Samba first hand in Brasil one day, I personally think everyone was playing for runner up once the Swedish girls turned up on the first page!
  10. Shame, when I saw the title I thought the game was going to be Cry Boy running from Rooney.... "Play the game, catch the Cheat and then Split him in Two!"

There's nowt wrong with being bitter, twisted and a bit sad.

  11. Yes thank you God, Cry Boy doesn't disappoint.... negates every ounce of his skill by a disgraceful show of cheating at every available opportunity, do they actually know how to do anything else? And though I nearly missed it because of the shite TV coverage at the end, there he is in fucking tears, twat.

Scolari's fucked his reputation as well, it's one thing losing it for a few minutes when you've genuinely been wronged but when yo've obviously encouraged a cheating attitude and then you get arsey??

Merci mes amis français but I think I'm going to have to go Italian as they showed a lot more hunger last night, still without the Portuguese stifling everything that's good about the game maybe we'll get a better flowing French performance.

  12. Anyway, I've read the issue properly now. Not bad stuff, but more than a little predictable, and the use of an "is he/isn't he?" motif for the central character was a bit of a dramatic non-starter when it's obvious from the very first page that yes, he's one of the Eternals, and no, the other guy isn't a mental. I won't feel ready to judge this one until I've read at least one more issue - if this issue constituted all of the character-establishment and setup, and the story begins in earnest next issue, then it was a pretty good, economical introductory chapter. If there's still plenty of setup to go, less so.

My initial "it's fucking awesome" impression of the art remains unaltered.

    Ditto.

    Ditto.

 Mark does all the work and we just ride in on his cosmic trail...

  13. Do YOU find that ok?
I find it a bit unoriginal and prefer the abuse to be a bit more humourous but the more banter the better, without stepping outside of ethical boundaries eg. racism - of course. I think booing the other side or players is daft solely because it's counter productive - a side or player getting abuse from the opposing set of fans knows they're doing precisely the right thing and will double their efforts to keep pissing the other lot off.

Andy Johnson is ace for that - one more reason why we should have taken him

  14. Hagren you must go and watch a football match one of these days

I thought Germany were great during this tournament (much against my better judgment). They were written off by their media and a lot of their fans, but right from the start they came out with passion and self belief, which can sometimes turn a reasonable team into a side capable of going all the way. Did all that self belief come from Klinsmann? God how we need someone who can inject a dose of self belief.

All that work though, and then sections of their media (I'm guessing their trashy tabloids) go and rile the Italians by cheaply insulting them (our countries must be more alike than I realise), which along with the scandal encompassing Italian football, seemed to produce a performance of massive pride rather than the sulking prima donnas that the stereotypes might have suggested (Lippi might have helped a bit as well I suppose).

  15. Stunning, proper heart on your sleeves stuff, exactly the sort of performance we were calling for from our lot. Italy really cast aside their stereotype of the last 15 years or so by going for it right from the start, Lippi's substitutions and tactics were spot on (as Klinsmann's have been throughout the tournament). Great great match and yes totally agree easily the best refereeing performance (although I'm a bit saddened that he's not refereeing tomorrows match, we might have seen Portugal having to play for a change).

Also dead weird to see 50,000 German supporters singing "You'll never walk alone" at the end, but hats off to them they've created a great atmosphere and they gave their team a good send off.

  16. Can't really see all 4 going down and Juve two divisions. As he's asking for points to be docked as well I think this is the start of a legal barter...

8 / 9th July - All parties guilty, punishment as described. All parties appeal.

20th July - All parties still guilty but punishments reduced - Juve go down one division, other three stay up with docked points.

Just a hunch but I could be wrong and if the requested punishments do come about, the vultures will start to circle in the form of the Spanish and English big clubs.
