  1. And that Ricardo was da man against England.

I will concede that he is proving to be a bit of a pain in the arse - ie. good.

I can't be arsed arguing this anymore. We were shit, they were shit. I just believe that we were less shit than they were with 22 shits on the pitch, then they conned the shit referee into making a shit decision, which meant we couldn't get our shit together to score a shit goal, so it went to shitty penalties, which we always lose cos we're shit at penalties, their penalties were then less shit than ours, so their not so shit goalkeeper saved our shit penalties and the shits went through. And left me a bitter and twisted shit, ok?

  2. Maybe you could tell me when it happened, where, who was involved or something.

Still, i dont think its so easy to say they would have gotten out without cheating and they won only because of this.

How about the Figo one with in the first 2 or 3 minutes where even that referee spotted it and waved play on and told Figo to get up, let me assure you they carried on after that but I'm not going into it, I'll just get pissed off all over again. As for them winning if they hadn't of cheated? Well we'll never know will we because we played with 10 men and they had someone on the pitch who should not have been there.
  3. I'll have to give Detective a go then, might as well pick up Battler Briton while I'm down there - anyone know what kind of plane it is he flies ?

There's a preview here but the pages seem to be all over the place and include the last one so be warned.

I think the old Battler used to fly whatever the story demanded but looking at the one on this new cover, I would say it was a Bristol Beaufighter of some description, I guess I'm a bit sad for recognising it but my Great Uncle (he flew reconnaissance in the war) used to take me to all the museums, airshows etc. as a kid so I was a bit of a nerd at a early age...

  4. I agree I don't see how McClaren will be any different than Eriksson.

I dunno. He showed a hell of a lot more passion on the sidelines than Sven. Might just be a sign of his position however.

You only have to watch Middlesbrough play above themselves to see how McClaren differs from Sven.

He's clearly a motivator rather than a celebrity-wrangler, and I'd say he's taken a back seat similar to his Man Utd role because (a) he already has a full time job and (b) because of the ego of his boss.

I'd heard that he was pretty uninspiring in the dressing room but that was only hearsay from football forums, so I hope you're right. I was pretty disappointed when he was appointed, preferring Martin O'Neill or Big Sam, both of whom I reckon have better track records, but he does at least throw strikers on when he's trying to win a game and will try and change tactics part way through a half if he thinks it's not working, something Sven the Apologetic hardly ever did. I just hope the idea of constantly defending a one goal lead in the international scene, hasn't rubbed off too much on him.
  5. It's tomorrow isn't it?

Gen sees the future and is always right! The sun shines on her beautiful face a whole day before the rest of us

Happy Independence Day you rebellious hordes, have a nice Tea Party (The Empire will Strike Back one day!)

  6. I heard on the news that Ronaldo's been txting Rooney and they are fine with each other. Curious.

Wayne's me best mate - hmmm let me see, Rooney's seen the error of his ways and now wants to live and let live or he's going to beat the living shit out of Ronaldo the first chance he gets. I'm no bookie but I'm guessing they're not offering odds on this one.

  7. I enjoyed this week's episode, bit predictable in bits but as I haven't been paying attention for a few weeks now (gone off the boil really) I hadn't caught any trailers or gossip about this, so I was actually surprised by the daleks turning up so it worked quite well for me. I had a brief moment where I thought it might be Davros for some really strange reason, but then I had amoment when I thought it would be Cap'n Jack (as I had heard he was making an appearance).

Enjoyed the initial Rose How I died monologue but worried that they may make a mess of this next week and I thought the lass from Eastenders as the head of Torchwood was great. Also this time the presence of Cidermen appearing all over the world was much better, really did give the feeling of millions rather than a few hundred (as did the line about not being an invasion etc.).

Few usual naff bits but yep Mickey (Bafta best supporting actor) was ace, although they could have shelled out a couple more quid on his gun rather than spray one of those kids' water canons black!

I suppose next weeks conclusion will either send the series off with a better ending than I was expecting or finish my interest off (Who am I kidding I'll watch it whatever they do.... unless Sven ever turns up as the Doctor (hmmm let me see we're up against the Daleks this week, well um perhaps we can wait in the Tardis and see if they go away?).

  8. Regardless of Ronaldo's involvement, Rooney's dismissal was sparked by an apparent loss of discipline when his frustration boiled over. So much for learning an important lesson, then.
Agreed, he must learn to restrain himself in the glare of the public media...... and then wait until he's got him cornered alone in the dressing room! [baseball bat carrying smilie]
  9. Sven can fuck off too - clueless twat. And we're left with another cold wet fish in the shape of McClaren - I reckon that might be it for what should have been the best crop of players we've had for 36 years.

I don't know Johnny, the England team is a pretty young one on average. Most of the players will be still in the team in 2 years for the European championship if not for the next World Cup and by that point we might actually go into a tournament with our two best strikers both being fully fit, or if not have recognisable alternatives in the sqaud.

The Hangover is blighting what little positive endorphins I possess so I'll be more rational in 24 hours, but I feel we have inherited a manager with very little more in the way of creating a winning mentality in a team (he got the job based on two heroic comebacks by Middlesbrough - but then failed to get them up for the final!), and this was half our problem with the IKEA CEO - as well as taking one fit striker, and trying to win a knockout tournament by defending etc. moan moan.

And I still hope that on the first day back at training, in the middle of Ferguson lecturing players on the irrelevance of international football, Rooney just walks straight up to Cry Boy and flattens him with a right hook (before stamping on his bollocks) "carry on boss I'm listening now".

  10. Well done to the cheats, yet again we see that diving, play acting and cynical fouls are the order of the day for FIFA (but make sure you send someone off if they go in for a hard but fair challenge). Rooney was fouled 3 times in that tangle (and he didn't stamp on that twat's bollocks - he stood on them - if anyone stamped on someone's bollocks they wouldn't get up again!). I genuinely hope that Neville and Rooney break Cry Boy's leg when they get back to Man Ure... alright I'm being a bit harsh but he doesn't deserve to earn his living cheating.

Sven can fuck off too - clueless twat. And we're left with another cold wet fish in the shape of McClaren - I reckon that might be it for what should have been the best crop of players we've had for 36 years.

  11. I'm actually still enjoying this a lot, reminds me of the unsettled feeling that I used to get from a lot of the British 70s horror films and TV shows I saw as I was growing up. I can sort of understand why others aren't as enamoured, but the story, the setting and Mina's John have really connected with me so I'm still hooked and hopeful of a decent conclusion.

All the atmosphere in the world won't help if the ending does disappoint though.

Just keep the faith for one more issue brethren

I thought the art was fantastic and weirdly enough liked the photo montage panels quite a lot.

  12. Don't think you were alone there - I'd wager that most people, going into the game, wanted to see the exciting young Spanish team finally come good and turn over the dour, aging French...
Not me, I was hoping that the French would knock that racist dick Aragones down a peg or two, so hopefully he will piss off now and I can enjoy what is a fantastically talented young side in the next tournament.
  13. I'm not one to go easy on England but I thought things were ok - Ashley Cole played really well as did Carrick, even Hargreaves did ok at right back, Lennon looked great when he came on and most importantly Rooney is starting to get his touch back. If Lampard and Gerrard can have three good games between them and Terry can avoid making any more last ditch cock ups we've still got a chance.

Even so Sven could still balls it up - we finally looked like we were attacking with some purpose after the goal and were not being troubled by Ecuador. So, apart from illness, why did he change things around defensively again? the Joe Cole/ Carragher substitution brought about the most pressure all half and was only really relieved when Lennon came on.

Oh and Becks scored 'cos he put his long sleaved shirt back on for the second half!

  14. Dear TimeLord that was utter shite. I can usually just let the not so good ones wash over me as entertaining twaddle but that made me cringe big style. I hope they turn it round with the last two cos' she's sinking fast captain... (Jack?)

  15. English optimism seems to be akin to wishing for a quick death.
Yeh sorry about that, like lots of others I spend season after season watching football with little chance of success at club level, while having to grin and bear the whinging of United, Arsenal and Chelski fans about some disallowed goal or sending off etc. Then I get the chance of a little glory hunting every two or four years with these superstars of English football, so try as I might and even though I talk our chances down to the outside world, inside the expectation grows... this time, this time we can do it. Then reality bites and I'm like a pregnant woman watching Bambi, flooded with hormones, up one minute down the next, but at some point I hit bottom... and that happened last night. Expectations all gone, now I can slowly bring myself up to cheer on the lads and just hope, hope but not expect, c'mon England.

Still think Argentina will do it, but Netherlands looked great at the back, they'll need Robben on form though to go all the way. One thing about tonights pretty tame match (wrong thread I know, sorry) is that both teams, but especially Argentina, showed England one of the big areas where we're going wrong.... intelligent running off the ball.

Oh and thanks for the pictures Trace, helps take my mind off the football
