  1. What's scary is that "some sites" believe this.

Christ, if some of the soldiers on the ground and in aircraft can't tell the difference between a farmer and an insurgent I don't for a minute believe we are 4 years from an AI that can do this.

  2. Has Mark put his clothes back on? I'm considering coming on the group hug.

    ........Oh God!!

(was trying to post this last night, but couldn't do it from my phone - damn you, technology!)

  3. Really, that doesn't bother me in the slightest. It's just a very fancy gun. There us no algorithim or AI existing at this time that can tell enemy combatants from friendly combatants from civilians, so this still needs an operator.

The competence and good moral fibre of the operator and their superiors, who decide on whom it is fired, that worries me a great deal.

  4. I can foresee the collar of his trench coat getting bigger and pointier, his hair going grey at the sides, the growing of a beefy moustache and the adoption of some mystical amulet.

Add a PhD in Lying and we get Dr Constrangetine.

  5. Just read Animal Man #18, and it's good to see Lemire getting back to what works best in AM, after Rotworld (which was great at the start, but distinctly just ok by the end).

But for fuck's sake DC.....[ Spoiler : first you bump off Damian Wayne, now it Cliff Baker!!!! You absolute bastards, he was another mouthy wee brat I'd quite grown fond of over the years. Dear DC, could you please stop killing all the children in your books. Thanks. ].

Certainly looks like it'll set up a domestic confrontation between Buddy & Ellen, given the topic of their truncated argument this month. I do enjoy the family dynamic in AM, but this looks like testing it.

  6. Aye, I got Black Mirror too. Enjoyed it immensely. I too was a bit taken aback by [ Spoiler : James Gordon Jr's impression of Kevin from Sin City ]. Don't know if he's been established like this in the books; the last I saw of him was in Year One. Still, I took it as read and went with the flow.

Maybe if we ask DC really nicely they'll bring Dick back as Batman to allow Bruce some time off to mourn.

  7. Well, aside from the whole not having to kill animals thing that gets a lot of folk worked up.

Just read this morning that scientists are suggesting that 50% - 60% of the UK's deer population should be culled to stop devestation of woodland and birdlife, and that a market in venison would make the cull ethically and economically viable.

That's around 750,000 deer heading for the butcher. Yum. Cheap venison.

  8. Thing is, we bought a house in a bad moment, I didn't have a job and stuff, but things are getting better. So I am happy.

I can totally sympathise with this, having been in a similar situation a couple of years ago.

Really pleased you've got your own place now, and glad it's getting better.

    Congrats bud.

  9. I think the one shot and issues #1-#9 were collected.

I thought I was the only person who bought that. I would've begun to think I'd just imagined it, were it not for the "C" section of my longboxes.

  10. The "Batman and <insert name here>" title news is reassuring - in that they're not rushing a Robin 6.0 into the title (aye, I still count Tim Drake - you got a problem with that DC?) - but I don't want it to become a Batman team-up book long term.

Then again, if it works well - and if they can't gradually and believably introduce an new Robin - maybe that WILL be the way to go.

I guess "wait & see" applies here.

  11. Today there shall be fresh circle of hell created, all new & shiny & fiery, and it shall contain the souls of all those who write "of" instead of " 've".

As in "I would of thought that these folk understood English", or "They should of paid more attention at school"

  12. Oh, if you want some more crime stuff, read Matt Wagner's Grendel - but only the Hunter Rose Grendel, not the other Grendels. The "Black White & Red" and "Red White & Black" collections are worthwhile.

  13. I'd second Lou's suggestion of Scalped.

Also, in the crime story strand, Sleeper by Brubaker & Phillips, and the Criminal series by the same (actually, just about anything by those two)

In a sci-fi vein it's not too late to pick up Saga if you're looking at something ongoing (1 trade and a handful of single issues so far).

We3 is an absolute must, on the basis of having a heartstring-tugging story against a military/sci-fi background.

Oh oh oh! almost forgot Gotham Central

  14. I read Batman Inc #8.

[ Spoiler : I thought Damian's scene with Dick was one of the most touching I've read in a long while.

Despite doing my best to avoid spoilers I had a rough idea where the story was going, although I was hoping for some ambiguous twist. However, when I read that scene I knew there was no way it was going to end well.

I really liked the mouthy little brat.

RIP Damian Wayne, we hardly knew you. ]
