  1. "the machinist" with christian bale. its just plainly a terryfing, riddle of a masterpiece. one of the finest psychofilms ever made. its just so bizarre and otherwise what we think of the story. one of the very few films i would give 10 from 10 points and no single point less.

    +interesting story

    +bale

+makes you try to solve a puzzle what never comes close to the real, you just solve unessecary parts

    +frightening, shocking

    -old school music

i can write the story down if someones interested or not knowing anything about it :)

  2. i like it colored, but a test black and white tpb wouldnt be bad. to see if it is the same (or even better) than the colured one, how it feels. because the coloring i think brings also a bit art in the thing. but maybe, as sin city, is the b&w an equal piece of art too.

  3. why is lawrence a pussy?

Stop! You know many of us hate the film and think its director is a softy noodle boy. Don't question us or defend the film every time we bash it, or all you'll ever do is make posts defending it. You will NEVER get a single one of us to see your point on this issue, don't you understand that?

Easy on Hagren there. I should perhaps remember that sometimes people here have a language barrier that filters out the non verbal nuances of what was intended as a light-hearted dig.

It's not what he did with the film, it is that he has taken potshots at the (lunatic fringe) Hellblazer fans and yet steadfastly avoided any forum where he can answer criticisms. Full points to anyone who can get him to make any such direct answer at San Diego. And to make matters worse, there's that lack of a UK premiere - which is where my very silly "pussy" comment comes from (as anyone here who knows me, it was most certainly not a serious one).

spiderlegs i fully understand you and adrian too :)

i just wanted to know why he thinks hes a pussy :) because im human and want to know why this and that is, thats all :)

but i know it now and acknowledge it. but spider, if you want that i accept your viewpoint (what i fully do) shouldnt you understand mine and because of that that i defend it? (because you said i should stop that. if youre taking your right to bash the film, why cant i take my right to defend it? im not acting like this because i want harm anybody!) you dont like it, you bash it. understandable. i like it so i defend it. also understandable. because we have another viewpoint, we discuss. also very understandable. cause its a forum and if we wouldnt have other viewpoints, it wouldnt make any sense because we wouldnt have to discuss about anything, no?

and know, because i didnt understand what you meant with noodle boy, i ask it. because im austrian and not perfect in english :)

and not because i despising anyone who dont thinks like me.

(and you shouldnt talk about other ones thoughts. they can speak for themselves, cant they? and im not posting only defendings of the film. if i know about anything comicfilms, i post it. i posted reviews of batman begins and sin city and other comicadaptations. i posted about the hellblazer and sin city comic and i posted what sethos should draw :) so you see, im not a foolish keanulover, i just loved the film and want to make my part of the job, and as you, posting my opinion about it and discuss. but im also a hellblazer fan and also know what im speaking about. so please dont think bad about me and hate me for how i think and what i do. cause im not doing this as treatment, just to discuss calmly and normal. i hope i can do that on this board. and werent there really any hellblazer-knowing people who liked the film? because the thread "did you see constantine? says something else...but im acting politely if youre acting poletily, i have no beef with you and dont want any shit happening.) ijust want that people understand my viewpoint. because im not saying this just so. and i like to be at a place where i can post my op and no ones bashing me for that. because i like to be on such a place, and i want that this place is it too.

  4. if we speak about special and great films, i know one: the machinist. i bought it yesterday and altough i did know it has to be a bit good at least, but not that good. its thrilling, surprising, frightening and bizarre. it gives you clues and makes you think that you solved the puzzle, but you dont know anything except maybe a part of the end, what isnt really mattering. and you become the character while watching the movie, you begin to go crazy and fear the worst like him.

its not a beautiful film, nor has a great music, but bale is great and the story and how it unfolds as well. its the best psycho film ive seen actually, altough i thought donnie darko or fight club is that but no- donnie darko is some stupid dull film to that, and fight club just a fun film with some meaning. but the machinist is THE psychofilm. i can really just recommend it anyone who likes psychofilms. do anyone know it? becaue i hope its succesfull than its a masterpiece for me. and i write a review if someones interested :)

its really cool, i mean it, not kidding or hypocriticing!

  5. aw, could i have some comments please (if you want to, i dont want to blackmail anyone) :icon_frown: i know theyre not masterpieces and big fantasy-stuff. i myself think im shyte :) (altough i think they look good, they are just so many drawers much better than me and thats frustrating. and im not patient enough nowadays for drawing) but im curious what others think of them :)

  6. Steve Dillon is famous for drawing H.B. during Ennis' run. He's probably my favourite artist on H.B.

Marcelo Frusin was the artist on H.B. during Azzarello's run, and stayed for a while after Mike Carey became the new writer.

ah! this steve dillon :) who illustrated fear and loathing and so on :)

shyte i know him, but his name :) (yepp, im an official idiot)

i like him too after manco and simpson. the only thing i dont like by him that the characters often have the same look. but i got used too it :)

marcelo frusin is still someone who i have to discover, because i just read "hard time" from azarello and that wasnt illustrated by frusin.

  7. What's the point of this panel anyway, to push the DVD release ?

    Yes John.

And they did try to get other guests but for one reason or another I think Brian and I will be the only ones at the show. I know this won't excite many of you but Keanu was supposed to be there and a scheduling conflict will prevent him. Word from on top (Warmers) says he's pissed about it. He loves the book and is a major comic fan, was really looking forward to it. Even if he had to answer some harsh critics.

Ade - Unfortunately, I'm not wired that way. I'm not sure I could be the spokesman you wish for. I play the game for the most part. I've never had the reputation of being a loudmouth or a negative ass, and if I voiced those opinions to my fellow panel people that is exactly what I would be to them. And I am not in the business of making enemies. I will voice my opinion if asked but it will be tempered by understanding what these people have to go through to get their vision on screen. Shit, it's hard enough to do that in comics. Hopefully you understand. People will have the opportunity to voice their opinions in the panel. I'm simply there as a member of the Hellblazer family at the request of Warner Bros. It wouldn't seem right to lob a full broadside into them amidships when I'm hoisting the same flag.

The reality is filmmaking is a tough business. I speculate Lawrence did what he could, or more accurately was allowed to do based on the what the studio wanted and the script called for. He's just a hired hand after all. It's only truly a director's medium when a director has a certain amount of control. I find it hard to hold Lawrence solely accountable. I'm not necessarily defending him, I'm only suggesting that there is a bigger picture to consider.

Once we all get a chance to listen to the director's commentary on the DVD we may get a better idea of the how much he is responsible for. So for me, the jury's out until I have more information.

And if someone can get me a shirt before the panel I'll display it proudly, hanging off the table in front of me.

    - I'll be at table BB-12 in Artists Alley all day.

    - TB

tim, im glad that your goin. shyte that im not an american or a rich guy :)

is somemone filming/photographing this stuff? do you think they report it on the internet? because im quite interested in it. hope there goes nothing wrong.

and to that keanu thing: maybe his not a top-notch actor but because hes human and gone trough a lot of shit stuff i really respect him. i mean his child died, his wife died, his sister has cancer and theres something with his dad too. thats why i dont critisize him or judge him. because i feel with him. and thats the reason why i think that he made a decent job portraying somewhat jc: because he also goes on with his life altough he has not much to be happy for (how many people wouldnt kill themselves in his situation?) (altough he married someone these days).

he is a good person i think. a normal guy with problems. dont know why they hate him so much (the critics n stuff).

altough that has nothing to do with his acting abilities. like i said, the only time i really liked him as actor was constantine. but i like him as person.

please dont degrade me for that. i know that hes not the only one with shit in his life.

but we are all humans and should be kind with each other (no, im not a preacher :) i just dislike unnecessary hate. because i know how that feels, like much of us)

  8. Tim (& HagreN),

    Only joking.

    Well partly.

It does grieve me after all the fuss that they could not be bothered to answer the fans properly. And the lack of UK Premiere just seems petty in the absence of any rational explanation.

But you know, first time director or not, he certainly got the hang of the Hollywood "Dis-Respect the Source" method. But maybe it's DC's problem that very little mileage seems to have been made about promoting the book in line with the film.

i know what your talking about but im with tim that he made the best he could from that short script. i mean, he speaked against wb for more money and that they dont cut it for a pg-13 rating, what says for me he has balls, imagine what they would have done to him if he says, "bollocks, i make it totally otherwise!". i think with his visuals there was some hellblazer essence in it (for me not just that) and i really think that hes not the person responsible for the stupid changes, maybe the producers/scriptwriters, altough i liked the twists of the story. i dont know what he could do to turn it back. i mean, just consider his situation: hes a musicvideodirector and has the chance to make a film, to jump in. would you try to make the whole staff hate him and fire him because he complains? i think he made a decent job as first-time-film-director (thats why im upset with the critics, they were a bit too harsh). and its the first time reeves was sympathic for me in a film. but yeah, they should be there for the fans after all.

btw, i own it on dvd but i didnt listen to the commentary track, maybe tomorrow. but there is at least one documentation interesting for us too, where they talk about the roots of hellblazer, even delano speaks (plus a hidden feature where some dangerous habits panels where cgi-d) and if you want to see how great work they did with the props and cgi (what i didnt realize before) than thats plus two interesting documentaries.

also the cutted scenes from which two are essential, the others okay for one view.

the shame is that theres no comic included to the region 2 dvd . but i granted a huge poster with it, thats also something :)

and im glad that john made it on the big screen, however. maybe we see the 100% john with books of magic the film.

  9. draw a tall men in a cloak (you cant see his face, his crouching) who sucks out life of an half-dead unicorn :)

this has turned out to be one of the nastiest things I've ever drawn

the fucking pub is making an awful racket again (already called the cops but they probably have other priorities on friday night), so maybe that has put me in a mood mean enough to draw disturbing shit like this.

    voldemortstealinglife.jpg

    oh, sorry for that :(

if ide known that you dont want to draw that, i wouldnt have said it:( im really sorry, didnt want to offend. i just wasnt in good mood (and ive read it in harry potter).but it looks very good. and the john burning down the cinema is very funny, and the stalin one to :)

  10. Red Sepulchre collects the first 6 issues of Mike Carey's run on Hellblazer. It's got a 2-part story illustrated by Steve Dillon, and a 4-parter illustrated by Marcelo Frusin. You don't need to know anything about the history except that, when the story begins, John has been in America for some time, and is presumed to have been killed in a prison riot about 2 years earlier (it follows on from Azzarello's run). Other than that (which is explained within the story anyway), it stands completely on it's own.

    thx :)

hm. i think i do not know steve dillons or frusins art.

  11. draw a tall men in a cloak (you cant see his face, his crouching) who sucks out life of an half-dead unicorn :)

or a predator fighting with an alien!

or reeves fighting with constantine both in pink bunny costumes, holding a halloween latern. their weapon is a stinking hering :)

  12. There has only been one H.B. TPB released since "All His Engines" came out ("Red Sepulchre"). The next H.B. Trade won't be available until September ("Black Flowers" by Carey).

    col, than you christian :)

i heard about red sepulchre. must i know about the past of this tpb to understand it?

because im really interested in it!

its illustrated by manco, isnt it?

  13. Tim, tell that fucking pussy Lawrence that he still has to face the Straight to Hell Posse.

I was in the same theatre as the so called "premiere" of Kuntstanteen for The Descent premiere the other day and they had to turn away some quite important people.

If Lawrence has any fantasies of making a sequel the least he can do is face his (informed) critics.

    Rachel's lovely though ;-)

    why is lawrence a pussy?

  14. That's exactly what he was asking, yes. Have you read A Dame To Kill For? In it, Dwight looks completely different from the way he does in The Big Fat Kill - he only gets turned into the Clive Owen-looking guy towards the end of the story (massive amouts of plastic surgery). To adapt the story for film, they're either going to have to use huge amounts of make-up/prosthetics on Clive Owen, or get someone else to play the pre-surgery Dwight. My money's on the first option, myself.

now i read the whole 6 issues of "a dame to kill for"

because the difference of dwight before and after is mostly the hair and the eyebrows, i think its totally enough put some makeup on clive owen.

i mean why spending more money on hiring a plus actor, when it isnt necessary?

neverteless they should take more storys for sin city two, because its not really much.

altough it was the most enjoyable sin city comic ive read until yet- the story isnt so special but its not bad. im curious how they will do the coloring again.

  15. here in austria you cant buy the monthly titles, so we have to buy the tpb.

Same here since last month. Next issue will be a TPB, and it will be released in December :icon_cry:

i can buy them only at amazon in english because the translationfirm broke.

and the last tpb i saw in a real shop was all his engines. how many where released since this?

  16. and finally some fantasy-predator i never finished. i drawed nothing for two years because i just drawed when i was in mood for, and that was a long time ago. maybe i should start now.

there are some other pics but theyre not woth to scan i think.
