  1. Austria ;)

I could take a peek in Hungary for it though...

Finished Robocop 2 btw, and it really wasn't all that bad. It was incredibly silly and I could have made without the ennerving kid, respectively the Token-black-major, but it certainly was entertaining- Especially Robocop acting all hippy-like :D The end-boss-battle was oooooverlong however, and the story and characters fell flat. Nonetheless, I was satisfied.

  2. I've seen the first half hour of it and so far, I'm not amused. It's far cheesier and sillier than the first one, which I do not fancy. We'll see how well it's going to entertain me, right now I'm rather insulted- As if watching Reloaded after Matrix, which I also did today (partly). The cyborg love-angle could get interesting though, if executed properly.

Btw, I'd gladly purchase the SE of RoboCop, but they've cut the film to pieces around here, whopping 10 minutes are missing! Instead, I'm buying Total Recall and the Starship Troopers SE tomorrow, if I'm able to find them, since those are either not or only midly censored.

  3. Ice Age 2- Nicely rendered water and fur. That's all the positive that I can state about this incredulously bland and stock film that is almost completely devoid of charm or humour. The only creative idea in the whole film was the female Mammoth's belief of being an opossum. Total dreck.

Robocop- I'm currently playing Quake 2 and 4, which always have been reminding me strongly of Starship Troopers. But since I just saw it some time ago, I'd thought giving RoboCop a spin instead. It was great! Gore, blood, an interesting lead character, robots, cyborgs, and even some analisys of the inherent issues with them. I dig Verhoeven's style quite much, how he's dead-on Hollywood yet self-aware at the very same time, and how he utilizes media for social critique. The cheese level is also surprisingly low for an 80s Sci-Fi film. I'm impressed! Are the sequels worth erm...purchasing?

Next up will be Total Recall I presume, haven't seen that one for ages.

Slinker: Is Benjamin Button Burtonesque, ie. like a dark, yet sweet fairy tale?

  4. Rewatched it on DVD today. It's still a superb crime-thriller with a psychological subtext, and a true accomplishment to dig this deep into the conflict of anarchy vs. order for a film centralizing on characters being either heavily made up or wearing an unintentionally hilarious rubber suit. Kudos to the whole crew for this masterpiece.

  5. Chihiro was a great film- Howl's moving castle not so much.

I dig the rich fantasy and blend of techniques when it comes to anime, but I'm not a fan of their representation of the human body in general- They generally look like unproportional, yet aerodynamic flesh-coloured pieces of flat, streamlined plastic, reminding me of stickmen in 3D. Animation can be stiff as well, especially when it comes to mimics. They're also a bit twisted for their own good. Oddly this is mostly only true for humans, not creatures or objects. Still, their colouration and line-handling is a bit too sterile sometimes, and the whole picture can appear a bit jerky.

But as said, if anime is good, than it's brilliant, mostly due to the sheer volume of fantasy and beauty in certain titles.

  6. Right now, I dislike Rockstar Games for making a shitty PC port of GTA 4.

    Fuck yes!

I hate gamers who think Fallout 3 was inspired by Bioshock. Twats.

    Sudden decline of temperature.

    Blind, biased, rabid fanboys.

    Overpriced games.

    Arrogant, rude people.

    Crowded trains.

Badly optimized, soulless or hyped games.

    Vinegar.

    My noisy drive.

Selfish, disrespectful, ungrateful and superficial individuals.

Asinine, boring art/media which is marketed as creative, witty, original and/or charming.

    Ruthless, cold human beings.

    PETA.

  7. With the minor exception of an American accent,
    .

I thought that trailer was completely shit. Seriously, I'm talking laughable, high-budget-fanfilm levels of shit.

However, in related news, the sun rose in the east yesterday, and water remains mostly wet.

Hm. This leads me to think that either Rourke or Del Torro would have made a great Rorschach voice. They were Sin City's saving grace in terms of voice acting, at least.

  8. I just read Avaunts opinion on "Children of men", and somehow the whole situation reminds me of the "Question vs. Hagren car spectacle" :D

Has anyone seen the Valkyrie trailer? Personally, I love it. But that may be owing to the overload of swastikas in it.

  9. Blade Runner Nice, but not my cup. Great speach from Hauer at the end.

Having now seen Blade Runner: Final Cut in the cinema, I must agree with Kate/Apathy/Whateveritisyourcallingyourselfnowadays. If I have to sum up my reaction to it in one word, that word would be meh. Mark loves it so much, I really tried to like it, and I just can't. I can see that it's a brilliantly made film, but if I get to choose, I will never be seeing it again. It does nothing for me. Rutger Hauer's performance is awesome, but as for the rest, I just couldn't seem to care. And don't get me started on Sean Young's awful hairdo and dreadful outfits. Truly horrifying.

I'm extremely happy to hear that I'm not the only one who wasn't much impressed with Blade Runner. For me, it had too much exposition, and in all honesty, there was not really much going on in that film. Plus, 80s sci-fis more often than not look absolutely horrifying. It was the DC too, before anyone's asking.

TDK, on the other hand, was awe-inspiring excellence. Shame no one discusses my thoughts in the appropriate topic :( :P

I also just finished Princess Bride. Now this is a film were I can relate to the views of STH; a simple little film, but the writing was stellar; there were numerous times were I was pleasantly surprised how witty and charming the dialogue was.

  10. Saw it today. Whilst it did not live up to the massive hype and did not turn out as exceptional as expected, it was pretty darn satisfying to sit through and certainly a brilliant, twisted crime thriller. Apart from the ludicrous Batvoice and the stiff suit, respectively the talk-heavy first half, amongst other things. My respect goes to Ledger and Eckhart for two quite amazing performances and Nolan for a more than solid direction and story. This one had colours, too! And much cleaner action shots. Next time I'd like less public scenes, though. Loved the maturity and richness of the film, it really felt disturbing and unsafe.

  11. Am I alone in thinking that after 2 or 3 episodes, "Californication" gets really old and tired? By the way, in the X-Files promos for the new film, Duchovny looks more like Hank Moody than Fox Muldur to me.

What I like about californication is that Duchovny and his ex-wife have great chemistry. Except that, nothing really happens in that show, it's like watching your neighbor.
