  1. Let's dust this tread off a bit.

And here's the teaser for anyone living under a rock

I really like what they're laying down here. It's old (sounds and iconography) + new (faces) combining to form massive exictement. Mission accomplished. It's been fun watching uptight folks online lose their shit over various bits; from a black guy as a stormtrooper to a crazy new lightsaber. It's a teaser. Relax

There's speculation this could hit well over Avengers $1 billion + box office. If any movie could, it's this one.

  2. Yeah...so. Pax Americana. That was fucking intense. I can't even rate it until I read it again backwards

Agreed! I need to digest it all again, make sense of it. All in a very good way.

it's funny how grant morrison hates alan moore's influence so much that he rewrote watchmen with better characterization

TRUTH! He out Watchmen'ed Watchmen! In some alternate universe this was Watchmen.

The issue is so multi-level-meta I may need few reads to get it all. Also, I need to refamiliarize myself with the Charlton characters. I know Beetle & Question, a bit of Captain Atom, but that's it.

Oh damn!! Was it ever so brutally wonderfull to have the real Question back! It was like an old friend coming back after being away for so many years. Who is the Question? Morrion + Quietly just answered.

BTW, when reading the Question it was, indeed, with the voice of Jeffrey Combs.

  3. Fade Out #3 was absolute perfection. Do you except anything less from Brubaker + Phillips? Me neither. Maya Silver, Valeria's replacement, is front and center. As she dives head first into this new found stardom, all the bright lights of Hollywood only cast deeper shadows, with all the seedy back dealing scheeming manipulations. This is fantastic self contained (mostly-ish) issue that would be good for anyone to pick up. Also, it's really clear that this world is full of fascinating characters, from starlets to suffering writers, from creepy studio heads to slimy agents. They all have a story to tell, and in B+P's hands, you want to hear all of them.

  4. Wytches # 2 was not as strong as the first issue. It's as if it's all been ramped with intros and setup, now it slows down a bit. I know that's fairly normal, especially in comics, but it was hard for me to really get excited over it. I admit to being very impatient and wanting more answers than is being given here. It also doesn't help that I'm reading some really STELLAR 5/5 type books, so some books, though really good, pale in comparison. Jock of course kicks ass on the creepy art. I'll stick around at least for a few more issue or the first arc.

  5. Capt. Marvel #9 was a treat. Lilla Cheney! The teleporting mutant intergalactic rock star lands herself in a jam and ask Carol for help. There's an goofy sitcom styled wedding plot. Then funny shenanigans begin. By the way, this all takes place on a world where the populace only speak in rhyme. It is glorious! And there's amazing art by Lopez. It's a nice done in one story.

Silver Surfer was also a nice done in one story. It's not the best issue so far. It's sort of like one of those flashback/clip shows but really good! We get to see the adventures between the adventures. I like the explaination as to why Dawn always wears clothing with dots. And the Allreds kill as usual.

The All-New Capt. America was alright. I like Sam Wilson. I like good superhero action. I like Capt. America. But all three elements didn't quite gel for me. It is a good fun action book, giving a little insight into Sam. If that's for you that's fine. But it was too light for $3.99.

Also, I glanced at other books featuring Sam-Cap and he is a acting like a major jackass. Like a huge turn-off why am I reading this crap sort of way. I'm sure there's a reasons based on the current event but I don't care.

Thor #2 was my jam! The Goddess of Thunder is here! This change in the status quo, for whatever reason, feels more legitimate to me, there's more weight behind it. Like they might actually keep this lady (whoever she is. there are some clue here) as Thor. There's just the right balance of fresh new green hero to old tested veteran hero being put out and it really helps. There's also enough mystery with the new Thor's identity and how this is all working, to keep my invested. She proves right away, regardless of who Thor is, you do not mess that person. If you do, you'll get a mighty hammer upside your head and lightning shot up your ass. I really want to see where this all goes.

Also, there's a nice cliffhanger at the end.

  6. Drifter...was a comic I read. It's a sort of sci-fi western thing. I think. It is not a bad comic, it's all done well enough, but it's not for me. Certainly not enough for to buy more of.

  7. That's how to follow up on a cliffhanger! All I want to add is I might have got a bit misty with the loving tributes to the Brigadire. Classic!

A friend posited that the real reason why Clara wouldn't got with the Doctor is because she's pregnant

  8. More fantasty with Tooth & Claw by Kurt Busiek and Ben Dewey! Holy Moley was this awesome good comic time! To start, you get 48 pages for $2.99!!! Believe it. In a fully realized world, conceived by Busiek & constructed by Dewey, we are introduced to a world run on magic and filled with anthropomorphic characters. There are floating cities, spells for food, lights, etc. Not all is well, of course, as there is a society on the surface of "have-nots." What happens when the most precious commodity, magic, runs out? What happens when society, as it's been known, comes crashing down?!? This is quality, triple distilled, pure fantasy. This would a really solid book (series) but it shines even brighter as a comic book. Highly recommended!! 5/5

  9. It's guaranteed, he's Aquaman. The gave the official word a few weeks back when the announced the HUGE WB movie schedule.

I'm not great with TV guys, but I would think someone from Sons Of Anarchy would be good. OH! Speaking of...howabout Ron Perlman as Mr. Wednesday.

  10. See? Rachel Talalay.

    :boogie:

Clara's grief reaction played well for me, and I reckon we'll see some of what Sexy Scottish Doctor used to call "Timey Wimey" (He was good, but see how the new one is better? See how Russell Brand has a lot to answer for?)

The Doctor's trick on Clara, and on the viewers, was a good one.

And his description of how much he cares for Clara, followed by "stop that thing (with the eyes)" shows Capaldi's range superbly.

Nihilistic Clara in the kitchen didn't have the emotional impact of Danny's visitor - played by the 3W crowd to move him on no doubt.

Possibly one of the most grown up moments of this "season".

But their relationship did work for me.

    Missy ...

Sexy Scottish Beetlejuice OR something more sinister*

"Do you want me to change the intimacy setting?"

    One extra special moment.

"Why is there lots of swearing?"

Fucking shame the trailer gave this story's "mystery" away, isn't it?

The Nu Daleks may be rather shite, but the Cybermen just get better.

*"how did the Doctor fall for Missy's lie when I didn't? IS HE STUPID?"

    "Time Lady, please."

    * Top reveal that indeed, I was right all along. Sorry for your loss everyone else.

But on the bright side, you got a transgender Timepeer.

I always like the cliffhanger ones.

    My thoughts as well.
