  1. Mike Mignola is going to add a Frankenstein Underground comic series to the list of Hellboy-verse titles for early-2015.

Mignola doing an ongoing Frankenstein's Monster book? Can this end up as awesome as I'm envisioning it?

With this added to the monthly Hellboy & BPRD flashbook comic, the Hellboy universe is starting to look very interesting again, regardless of the dull and repetitive new BPRD stuff.

OH! I like this a great deal! I can nearly 100% guarantee I'll be buying this.

It also makes think of Roger. And I miss him. RIP, homunculus bro

  2. I agree about the new issue of Multiversity. I loved it more than the SOS issue. It was just great on so many levels.

There probably will be a bunch of mini-series after this is over, remember Before Watchmen. I sort of worry about the quality of others writing these worlds, if they can get good creative teams, and don't just stick them in the New 52 or something.

I hear you. However, one thing to keep in mind: DC is on good terms with Morrison, they aren't with Moore. Which I think is quite a factor.

  3. Here's a nice interview with excutive producer Daniel Cerone. He touches on many topics, like; smoking, bisexuality, powers, inspiration, etc. Some of this is new, some old, but it's a good all in one for various topics.

I feel confident saying fans have little to worry about when it comes to how they approch John Constantine.

    http://www.comicbook...rticle&id=56525

    Highlights:

    - "Hellblazer" is the template and they'll honor the character as laid out in that book. Also, there's heavy inspiration from his appearances in Swamp Thing. There is zero mention of the "Constantine" monthly comic.

    - John is a chain smoker, they just can't show it.

    - John has NO inherent powers. All of his abilities are from studying and hard work.

    - Bisexuality for John is possible but it's not defining to who he is as a character.

    - Dr. Fate & Phantom Stranger are possibilites. They will be more easter eggs for the time being.

    - The "Newcastle crew" will make appearance, especially Gary Lester and Ritchie Simpson.

  4. Maybe this is all part of the plan (cue Joker music from TDK). They've been doing this Constantine stuff primarily for getting the name out there, keeping it circulating, and then! making fans want the real deal sooooo badly, we will jump on the show like desperate desert travelers given some water. Or I'm giving them too much credit.

I do hope that the show is popular enough that it causes DC to reflect it more in the comics. Similar as has happened with Arrow and Flash.

  5. Isn't it Just great? So much meta commentary from Morrison! Love it. Oh yeah..that time Superman teamed up with Neil Gaiman's Sandman!

This is sort of like Kindom Come, but spun off in a slightly different direction.

And yes, I want a series or mini-series of EACH one-shot. Which I know is Morrison's intent. Let's see if DC will take the bait.

Arkham Manor. It's a DC comic book taking place in the Batman corner of it, where Batman is played by Jay Leno. The art is competent. There's one bit I LOVED; Batman making two would-be muggers apologize to their victim. The concept is neat having Arkham inmates housed at Wayne Manor with Bats right underneath. But it never really grabs "it." This is far from terrible. I give the an E for effort.

This reminds me of was it....Shadow of the Bat...with Bruce being sent to Arkham?

    Pass.

  6. I blame Image. Seriously, if they weren't putting out so many quality series, I'd have a halfie. My "policy" is: good stuff gets kept, current stuff I'm reading gets kept, most montly superheros fare gets sold/traded after the current arc. Also, it's getting that I'm having a more challenging time keeping track of all the stories I read. That's just comic books! Toss in books, magazines, TV, movies, etc and it's all The Flash teamed up with Marko to rescue Velvet, who's having an affair with Constantine, from the evil clutches of Thanos, in his hidden base, in Westeros, provided by Raymond Reddington.

That's why I've been leaning more towards trades, easier for travel and consuption.

  7. Wish I'd started more of these series in that format as the piles of comics are getting too big.

This is also my problem. I've been trying to keep myself limited to ONE box but there are just too many awesome series I want to keep in single form. Perhaps...I will...buy.. a SECOND BOX!

  8. If anyone is looking for some Hellblazer trades in digital format on the cheap, then NOW is the time.

Starting today going through 10/28/14, you can buy the first eight volumes of Hellblazer for $5.99 each.

There's also City of Demons, Shoot and Constantine vol. 1

So, to any newbies wanting to see what's it's all about, or oldies like me wanting to re-live the glory days, here's your chance.

It's a shame there's only Delano and Ennis. But a good deal is a good deal. Beside, it's great that the John Constantine promo train is rolling full steam.

  9. So, I've moved from regretting the last ten years to intensely regretting the last two with a feeling of 'feh' about the eight before them.

Also, I'm feeling a bit more upbeat about a career in IT? Weird.

Also, I've started going to a shrink. I should have started going three years ago, but what can you do? Anyway, the shrink is kind of an inattentive shit, but he gave me drugs so I'll see how it goes.

Hmmm. Not sure an inattentive therapist is really earning their money, but maybe it's his style.

Fingers crossed it's useful to you, mate.

    Seconded!

Pooka might be right. Some therapists prefer a more passive approach, just listening, taking it all in. They might interact more later once they have more info. But it also doesn't hurt to ask them what their approach is for therapy, sort of setting out a game plan.

If I may give advice, based on knowing things and personal experience with therapy, be open with them. I know it can be difficult pouring your guts out to a total stranger, but that can also be freeing. Give them open and honest answer, no matter how hard it feels. That way, they are able to help you better. Medical doctors can, at least, do tests and scans for disease, not so with mental health people (for the most part). They have to take the patient's word on nearly everything. Also, remember it's a marathon, not a sprint. This will take time. It will happen when you are ready. Doing a one-two punch of therapy + drugs is wise and effective. In short, be aware, talk it out, stick with it.

I hope this is able to help you in all the ways you need.

  10. Flatline had some right creepy monsters! WOW! The Boneless.....

The whole setup of Clara having to play Doctor walked a nice edge of being just cute enough without it being annoying, and she actually did a commendable job when it counted. And howabout that Rigsy as a sort of fill-in companion! I like that guy. I too can't wait to see what he doesn next. (althought probably nothing since this was a one off)

ALSO, my friends and I all thought [ Spoiler : the TARDIS in siege mode looked almost identical to the Pandorica ]. Or are we crazy?

"The man that stops the monsters." The Doctor in a nutshell.

  11. I finally got my hands on a copy of Batgirl #35. It was the vampire variant....sigh...which thankfully is the worst thing about the issue. This is a very hip, modern, fresh take on Batgirl. Believe all the hype! The writing and art are a perfect fusion to tell a fun story of a young woman as a superhero. Barbara makes mistakes, she learns, all as she's trying to find her way. So, basically like a real person. This was a well crafted shot in the arm for female crime-fighters. There are many to whom this will appeal and they will love it (i hope)!!! However, this isn't necessarily for me. I recognize how good it is but I like characters I can relate to. And a young, hipster-like, Batgirl is tough to connect with. There's nothing wrong with that. And bravo DC for taking chances and giving quality stortellers a chance to shine.

  12. Deadly Class #8 was solid...I'm not sure entirely how I feel yet. I've been a bit on the fence with this series on whether I would drop it monthly and just get trades. This was the Secret Origin of Marcus Lopez. Through his journal we find out what happend at the orphanage to send him running and live on the streets. HOLY **** that was some messed up stuff. The very raw and brutal pontential of Marcus is on full display as he MacGuyver's his way to freedom. This was a decent side step in the story providing deeper meaning to the overall story. So much so that I really need to go back re-read the series to date. Last and not least, Wes Craig is AMAZING in every damn sense. He does great action, small moments, emotional, quiet drama. all of it with high skill. He has great kung-fu!

  13. And then Marvel does something kind of cool that I like. Dammit.

Uncanny Avengers will relaunch after Axis, featuring Scarlet Witch, Rogue, Fal-Cap, Quicksilver, Vision, Sabertooth and...wait for it...Brother Voodoo! yes, he's back, baby! And written again by Remender.

So, with Sabertooth on this team, I'm thinking they will be sprinkling the other "Wolverines" (see above) on different teams. That way there can be a Wolverine on every major team and not cause fanboys to lose their shit at the continuity discrepancies.

    http://www.comicbook...rticle&id=56388

How does Remender have time for all of this?!?! He's writing Axis stuff, Captain America, Low, Deadly Class, Uncanny Avengers. I know Axis will end, but all else stays or relaunches like Cap & Uncanny Avengers. Then in the near-ish future he's got Tokyo Ghost and an Avengers OGN "Rage of Ultron" with Opena. That's just off the top of my head. Damn. Of course, I'd rather read his creator owned work for the most part.

  14. Over the last few days Marvel has been release teasers, primarily about former big event cross over type stuff from days gone by, to be coming in 2015. Are they all new projects? Retellings? What Ifs? Re-releases? I don't know. There's Secret Wars, Planet Hulk, No More Mutants (which could House of M or Mutant Massacre or Fall of the Mutants), Armor Wars, Civil War, Age of Ultron vs Marvel Zombies, and Years of Future Past.

Odd. But that's the point of a teaser, to get people talking.

  15. So, I kept hearing about how good Uncle Scrooge is, especially by Don Rosa. I decided to download a copy of the Free Comic Book Day '14 edition that was released. This is a nice 36 page book! There's plenty of humor and fun. Sure it's all light hearted and easy, it is Disney after all, but there's a comfort to it, like a ragged yet warm blanket on a cool day. Magica casts a spell on Scrooge and Donald changing their center of gravity to basically be 90 degress off from everything. The walls are their floors, ya see? Then they have to chase her across town like this to retrieve Scrooge's #1 dime. It is incredibly inventive they way Rosa tells the story. But damn! Rosa kills it through the whole thing with some creative paneling and storytelling just this side of Eisner. It was a neat surprise, not a comic I'd want to read monthly but on rare occasion.

Maybe someday I'll seek out some reprints on the cheap.
