  1. Currently watching Sandman. The changes of race broke the suspension of disbelief only a couple times. On the one hand, I particularly liked the actress that plays Death, very well chosen actress. But the suspension of disbelief came when they were showing things that clashed a bit with my idea of XVII - XIX century England. They showed a cosmopolitan modern mix, rather than a rigidly stratified society.

I heard they will make a second season. Cheers, I guess?

  2. Mickey Eye, about the health issues, it is hard and it can happen to anyone. Try to keep focus, it usually helps during turnmoils.

About the split, I don't have any words of wisdom but I must confess that the bit of 'i split in November' and 'i see this lady since February' made say HMM out loud.

But if you don't mind, let me ask you a couple questions...

What in the name of Skynet is that and how do you get paid for that???

I keep going back and forth on whether or not I should pick up Vampyr - there's real negative word of mouth on the combat but I do enjoy me a good talky game.

There is an easy setting in which there is little combat. And indeed there is a lot of talk, but it is not so essential to do all the extraction of information if you aren't going to eat their tasty soul. I am doing the second playthrough, with a different style and  it feels like a completely different story because I am finding different clues and clues in different order. The combat is a bit like Witcher 3, they say. It reminds me a little bit of Dark Souls, with stamina bar and all.

  4. Riddle me this. Gibraltar is part of the UK. UK is part of the EU. But Gibraltar is not part of the EU.

I know the whole idea of overseas territories is getting the nice things while avoiding the bad things, like having to negotiate directly with Spanish government when shit hits the fan (e.g. regarding the concrete blocks or the tobacco smuggling), but the EU rarely mingles with the dirty the issue of the border Ceuta (part of the EU) and Morocco (not part of the EU), so Gibraltar being part of the UK but not the EU should be treated in a similar way.

Not saying that the issue should be discussed only between them. After all, the point is solving the problem rather than wasting tax money (which is what those guys do best). But I don't think that means necessarily to leave all of the issues to Brussels.

  5. I am enjoying Vampyr. I thought the combat was going to be easier (ok it is easier compared to Dark Souls but still), but that may have to do with the non killing approach of the playthru. I will try a more bloody way in the next one.

    And the music is great.

  6. I don't know if that Howard guy has any decisive powers over the situation of Gibraltar.

The guys of Gibraltar in general do not want to be part of Spain of course, but 90% of them wanted to remain in the EU, so maybe bringing a British politician to Gibraltar will attract more shit from the Gibraltarese than from the Spaniards, actually...

Have they really spent two years quibbling about the NI border while ignoring the issue of Gibraltar besides some ridiculous crap Michael Howard spouted about being ready to declare war on Spain if need be last year?

Yes. That is what they have done.

Spanish media said that the future of the 9000 spaniards (the ones that go to work to Gibraltar every day) was uncertain, while the angry politicians are saying that Madrid, not only Brussels, should have a say about the Gibraltar border.

  8. the big German dream of a unified patent system

i guess times change for the better, huh. twas a pretty low bar to begin with, buuuut anyway

I was being serious. Germany is the number one in patent application filings per year in Europe. There are three european patent offices, one in Netherlands because historically they had a great database. The other two are in Germany (Munich and Berlin). They made sure that the unitary patent does not enter into force until they sign it (and it will be the last State to sign it before it starts). The whole thing is really being pushed by German lawmakers. Maybe my statement of "big German dream" may be reductionist because other countries are doing a lot of efforts, but I believe the main pulling force in patent unification since 1970 has been Germany. Not the only pulling force but probably the most important.

  9. It actually affects my job quite directly. UK is one of the most active countries in industrial property and the big German dream of a unified patent system is being held back because of Brexit. It became a legal mess. I am quite sure UK will talk its way to get max benefits, as always, but the problem is that it is not being done fast enough.

  10. I just despair about the level of political discourse, the stupid attention to trivia while super serious issues are not even reported on.

How do we rescue the goddamned important thing that is US political life?. Instrumental in so many of the advances humanity has made and must make, broken down to the beach toy of fuckwits, batted back and forth by trivia. WTF is going on?.

Somebody said on twitter that we are in the stage of a History book referred to as 'factors leading to' before the maps become really complicated with arrows. Nah, I don't believe we are at the verge of anything. Watergate was big at the time, and people still remembers it, because people paid a lot of attention. Now there is too much information. I am not very familiar with that scandal, but probably Cheeto Manbaby made worse stuff and people are just getting numb.

  11. I don't know how they managed to pull it off, but Baahubali 2 was released in Belgium. It's not even listed in IMDB. We were gobsmacked by the first one, which we watched in a cinema festival. I think the second one got released in more countries but since I cannot trust IMDB, I don't want to mislead anyone. They call it the Lord of the Rings of indian cinema for a reason.
