It takes a lot of time if you want to do exams or seriously go deep into it. If you want to pass the exams, it's like 12 hours a week.

But next october the 'science of cooking' starts. I will have a look, out of curiosity, but I won't spend a lot of time on it.

There are several online universities and online resources used by universities. For instance, Coursera, Udemy, Khan Academy or Udacity.

There is one started by the Massachussets Institute of Technology and Hardvard last year. It started on 2011 - 2012, and it is quite amazing. Recently, another 10 universities joined. Now you can learn from circuits to law to mythology to cooking science.

Also, it's free.

(unless you want the certificate, for that you have to pass the exams and also pay)

I recommend it as an alternative to those couple of hours you spend in front of tv or browsing random stuff on internet every day.
