  1. Random Rules

lyrics by David Berman (Silver Jews)

In 1984 I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.

Slowly screwing my way across Europe, they had to make a correction.

Broken and smokin' where the infrared deer plunge in the digital snake.

I tell you, they make it so you can't shake hands when they make your hands shake.

I know you like to line dance, everything so democratic and cool,

But baby there's no guidance when random rules.

I know that a lot of what I say has been lifted off of men's room walls.

Maybe I've crossed the wrong rivers and walked down all the wrong halls.

But nothing can change the fact that we used to share a bed

and that's why it scared me so when you turned to me and said:

    "Yeah, you look like someone

Yeah you look like someone who up and left me low.

Boy, you look like somene I used to know."

I asked the painter why the roads are colored black.

He said, "Steve, it's because people leave

and no highway will bring them back."

So if you don't want me I promise not to linger,

But before I go I gotta ask you dear about the tan line on your ring finger.

No one should have two lives,

now you know my middle names are wrong and right.

Honey we've got two lives to give tonight.

I love this song, I also love Dean Wareham (Luna) and Britta Phillipps' cover of it on their joint album.

And I love Stephen Malkmus (Pavement, Silver Jews), so there's a whole lotta love goin' on.

  2. Seriously. Drogba to me is almost worse than Owen or C. Ronaldo, because the man from Ivory will lay on the ground feigning injury until the ref whistles play dead or the other team is forced to do the sportsmanlike thing and kick the ball out of bounds. Which is a total joke seeing as how Drogba, when he does that shit, is being completely un-sportsmanlike.

  3. I was just watching Spider-Man 2 on the FX network and I noticed Bernard "the Senile Butler" is in it. He makes some comment about Harry's drinking just before Doc Ock shows up for a planning session.

I was just going to post the same thing.

Watching SM2 last night almost made me want to give SM3 a try. Almost.

  4. :o

Wow, what a couple of episodes those were!

Franka Potente as the heir apparent to the Armenian Mob Empire

Shane selling Vic out to the Armenians

Hyatt fucking Tina in front of Dutch (Billingsley is THE MAN)

Pizuela giving Vic a picture of Aceveda sucking dick

I feel like the show is just now hitting its stride and there's only one episode left. This wonky release schedule is killing the show.

I'm getting sick of all these broken up seasons, mini-seasons, frequent and long hiatuses, etc. Just give us at least 13 damned episodes in 13 weeks already!!

  5. Lena Headey (Queen whatshername), on the other hand, was my cup of tea. I couldn't take my eyes offa her.

    Completely agree.

I found her beauty to be bewitching, I was totally distracted by her everytime she appeared on screen. Which was probably a good thing given how ham-fisted the "political" moments of the film were.

  6. Young Folks by Peter Bjorn and John

    Soooooo good.

    Highly recommended, especially for jaynova.

Actually, I just heard that song at a bar last week, and I said to the otter, "Oh! They did that song! I going to try to find the album!"

So, good call, and good lookin' out!

  7. Great match to watch. I thought Heinze had an excellent game last night. Considering that it was a total makeshift defence, he mopped everything up and came out of it with more scars than Bruce Willis out of a Die Hard movie.

    Surely you're joking, right?

He was beaten twice by Kaka for goals.

Granted, on the second one Evra got in his way, but still.

I thought he played adequate at best, and downright sloppy at worst.

  8. Liked the development of Billings and Julian, didn't care for Corrinne's dream--- that was really cheesey.

There was also an OTT cheesey moment in the 5th episode, I just can't remember it right now.

Oh, and Ronnie, my man, grow the beard back. Please.

  9. You can add my name to the list of "Those Who Are Right."

I like Shaun of the Dead and Spaced, but I don't love them. There's something missing from the Wright/Pegg stuff, perhaps it's a lack of original ideas and the presence of too many references/homages. Their work strikes me as being really, really good fanfic.
