  1. Here's a thing: it looks like Telos have reprinted Pretty Young Things in a new edition with less godawful cover

    Pretty-Young-Things-CS-Cover-V2-F-100-51

The first I heard about this was somebody telling me about it online last night, so I've sent them a query on the assumption that they didn't receive the change of address letter I sent them back in 2013...

  2. Going through Jack Dann's The melting man at the moment. This is a book that came out the same year as Neuromancer and gets described as sort of not quite but almost Cyberpunkish but so far just reads like an updated take on the whole '60s new wave thing. Mind you, Dann's attempts to work stuff that had changed since the mid '70s into that sort of story look a lot less strained and desperate than the novels some of the new wave guys produced during the '80sm, and it reads rather well.

  3. Finally got around to reading through all (or almost all: I think I'm missing one short story collection) of Karl Edward Wagner's Kane series. About halfway through Darkness Weaves at the moment, and it still reads well: proper swords and sorcery with horrible characters, everybody scared witless of magic users, torture and public executions a go go.

  4. Quora.

Specifically that I just got a like for something I said on Quora from Suzy McKee Charnas.

It may be a fake Mckee Charnas, for all I know, or even somebody trying to wind me up, but I prefer to think it's the woman who wrote Unicorn Tapestry and Walk To The End Of the World and she dug what I had to say about Lovecraft.

Fucking hell. That's my Kevin Bacon moment right there, innit?

  5. To be honest, it's often overlooked just how much Alan Grant did. The man was one of the giants but he just gets dismissed as a guy who did a lot of work with John Wagner during the first half of the '80s and wrote some excellent Batman stories. There's far worse ways to remember him, but it still seems completely unfair, and rather dismissive.

  6. Latest on the "unlawful seizure" (honest to God, the MGA massive are calling it that now) from Mar a Lago is that the FBI have retrieved a bunch of diplomatic passports in The Former Guy's name along with everything else they've removed. Maybe they think he's worried enough about what else he might be prosecuted over to be a flight risk? You do wonder how the stupid git thinks he's going to give his security escort the slip to sneak onto a plane to Korea, Russia or China, mind.

There's been talk of nuclear secrets as well. which I think was what the Rosenberg's got executed for treason over...
