  1. for lack of a better place, this goes here.

would someone please explain the function/purpose of the website "paste bin."

Place to dump chat logs to format them for easier reading, prevent them from being deleted after subject realizes they are being mocked for being a dumb, etc.

  2.

    Checkered Vans.

    not seeing a problem here

Yeah well stick a banana comb in your back pocket about it.

(My wife recently pointed out that we are now further away from the 80s than the 50s were when I watched Happy Days as a kid :( )

  3. Yeah i do not recall those 80s. I recall getting into fights on account of my shirt didn't have the right animal on it.

Did you have that shitty ass fox on it too?

Honestly n the 80s were rad. Parachute pants. Panama Jack t-shirts. Members Only Jackets. Spuds McKenzie and Alex from Strohs.

Ocean motherfuckin Pacific. Checkered Vans. Breakdancing. Max Headroom. :barf:

But we had some pretty great music. The midwestern US hardcore scene had some amazing stuff going on

  4. Happy Birthday!

    Nice comic Balthy!

Last time I was in Scotland it literally started raining in Berwick on the trestle over the Tweed heading north on an East Coast train.

There are still Firkins in Toronto.

My local pub is two blocks away, we all know everyone's names and business, but sadly no fireplace.

And I got nothing to add to the babby rearing talk.

  5. Lou- if you don't mind me asking, how much is this pregnancy costing health service wise? And what exactly do you have to pay for? Rough figures are fine I'm just curious how much a pregnancy in the US costs.

Heard on NPR when I was in Washington DC last month there are actually tour services running out of the Chinese mainland for pregnant women to visit the US to have their anchor babies ;)

Hello again, all. I've been away for a while, but it feels good to be back. So, what's going on with you lot?

Hey Mark! Long time no read! Glad to see you back.

So I'm a bit of a long time nerd, being *almost* as old as Ade, and my current video game of choice is EVE Online. Of late the group of guys I play with have been setting up another group with more and more absurd traps in order to kill all their ships--and in EVE you can get in game cash for buying ships for real money via a mechanism called PLEX, so know we are costing this other group the equivalent of hundreds of pounds (or the game time necessary to grind the cash in game). So last night we dropped 80 ships on their 15 in what a corp mate called a "total dunk" A light went on in my head. So, I immediately pasted the following in the local chat channel:

I really hope it catches on

  6. I think that probably applies all over.

On a slightly positive note a couple of years back we went to a family do & there was a woman there many of the guests had know from school when she was a boy. Now there were some sniggers & stupid comments but overall most folk were quite positive. Some were confused. )"is he wearing make up?") but given this was a working class ex pit community (sorry to stereotype) overall most people didn't give two shits. Now, 10 years ago a trans woman round a bunch of drunken people in a WMC would probably have faced violence, at least thrown out. So it's very positive that people are becoming more sensible in their reactions to trans people.

That's good to hear. I mean, I think its ok to be confused--if you aren't gender dysphoric it is pretty damned difficult to get--so much of our gender identity is unconscious and our social queues automatic, so when they get disrupted its unsettling. But instead of trying to understand through identifying with the dysphoria, its more productive to identify with the confusion. It must be terrifying to go through, especially when trans issues have been suppressed and its hard to even put a name to the feelings one is going through. It takes a special kind of asshole to not be compassionate and supportive with that in mind IMO.

  7. If you liked Gunnerkrigg Court there is a fairly good interview with the writer up at Comixpedia.com

Just did a deep search of the forum and this was one of the few posts about this web comic I have found. You reading it still Mickey?

I just read the entire archive last month, and have really fallen for it. Its also quite a lot of fun seeing Tom's writing and drawing abilities mature (as do the characters). Its really ace.

  8. that sounds terrible. whats your docs prognosis: is your eye in danger?

    good luck

Nah, eye is fine although the mass is pressing on the top muscle. What is worse is the pressure of the cyst against the bone is what causes it to degrade. Hopefully it will repair itself and not require a graft in the orbit, which would require them to remove my eye from its eyesocket for a bit. That would be something I'd like to avoid.
