did ya get the new Peculia graphic novel by Sala yet, Lyra?
EDIT: DAMN. I'm really jealous of your carving skills...
It was sort of surprised to find out it was actually Evil Eye 13. He was smart to start releasing the issues as trade paper backs. I was a bit disappointed by the Maniac Strikes Again since it was just a stretched out version of 13'O clock and some other Sala stuff I already owned. He is such an amazing artist.
Glad you liked the carving.

My latest book still using a hell theme based on the mouth of hell and an anti-catholic hand bill .

I worked on one of my wooden carved books from 3-5 pm then started digging out the basement till 9 pm. China is within reach, i can just feel it. Read my entire collection of Richard Sala comics till 1 AM. Worked on inking some drawings i've had lying in a sketch book for ages then took out the dog ever hour till 5 am due to his stomach problems.

That Communist Curtain was cruely drawn tight.
Christian is right you were lucky it was considered quite the must see tv mini-series when it came out.

Has the TV series called V ever been shown in Serbia. It is about a bunch of aliens that come to steal our precious fluids( water). If it has did they just call it V or something else.
-
You might wish to pour through some of the back issues of the Comics Journal. It takes an intellectual look at the comic book medium and contains interviews with many of Hellblazers past writers. You will need some resources.

It reminds me of the art from Havok V.S Wolverine Meltdown. by Jon J. Muth and Kent Williams.
-
Weird War and G.I combat were my first comics due to them being in this 10 cent rack in a musty magazine store.

Did you dedicate the book to Tito?
It looks beautiful the color looks fantastic. I have an old newsprint quality version of that graphic novel that would give you blisters from turning the pages it is so nasty.
I am really happy for you. The V would be the most promising out of the titles with the movie coming out. They are going to release a hardback version of it here in the states.

I can visualize this being placed on Ellis's annual work performance report.

Ljubazni Lesevi - Kindly Corpses...
a really trippy underground metaphorical story about a pathologist who discovers a conspiracy in The Ministry Of Death...

What are you talking about, Lyra?! We're all excited for this title on the Forum! This is the kind of stuff that really shows you what the comic medium is capable of and why we're all proud to be comic fans!
I also love how mixed up he is about who's a "Liberal" and what the term "Orwellian" actually refers to.
The scales have fallen from my eyes.
I think Michael Moore is the Vice president Chelsea Clinton President in this world turned upside down. I wonder if they've been endowed.

thanks for the background. I was a bit confused about the circumstances surrounding it being pulled. It is amusing that Warren Ellis would be so offended by DC's action he would leave the series.

I am sure this has been posted before but was the issue 141 the only Hellblazer pulled before publication. I read this issue was titled shoot and dealt with a school shooting. There is website with some of the pages. It didn't seem nearly as bad as the dead babies in Son of Man.

I hope know one reads this one.
Synopsis:
America’s future has become an Orwellian nightmare of ultra-liberalism. Beginning with the Gore Presidency, the government has become increasingly dominated by liberal extremists.
In 2004, Muslim terrorists stopped viewing the weakened American government as a threat; instead they set their sights on their true enemies, vocal American conservatives. On one dark day, in 2006, many conservative voices went forever silent at the hands of terrorist assassins. Those which survived joined forces and formed a powerful covert conservative organization called “The Freedom of Information League”, aka F.O.I.L.
The efforts of F.O.I.L. threaten both the liberal extremist power structure and the U.N.’s grip on America, the U.N. calls F.O.I.L. the most dangerous group in the world. It seems the once theorized Vast Right Wing Conspiracy has now become a reality.
The F.O.I.L. Organization is forced underground by the “Coulter Laws” of 2007; these hate speech legislations have made right-wing talk shows, and conservative-slanted media, illegal. Our weakened government has willingly handed the reins of our once great country to the corrupt United Nations. The Department of Political-Correctness is required to assist U.N. monitors to properly edit all print and broadcast media. Live broadcasts are a thing of the past; all transmissions are monitored by the U.N. and any ‘offensive’ material is dumped.
Rupert Murdoch’s decision to defy the “Coulter Laws” hate speech legislations, has bankrupted News Corporation. George Soros has bought all of News Corps assets and changed its name to Liberty International Broadcasting. LIB’s networks have flourished and circle the globe with a series of satellites beaming liberal & U.N. propaganda worldwide.
The New York City faction of F.O.I.L. is lead by Sean Hannity, G. Gordon Liddy and Oliver North, each uniquely endowed with special abilities devised by a bio mechanical engineer affectionately nicknamed “Oscar”. F.O.I.L. is soon to be joined by a young man named Reagan McGee.
Reagan was born on September 11th, 2001. He is the son of a NYC firefighter whose life was spared by attending his son’s birth. Reagan has grown to manhood in an ultra-liberal educational system: being told, not asked, what to think. With personal determination, which alienates him from his contemporaries, he has chosen the path less traveled…the path to the Right.
Two decades of negotiation with the U.N., and America’s administration of 2021 (President Chelsea Clinton and Vice President Michael Moore), has culminated in a truce with fundamentalist Islamic terrorists, or so America is told. The honorable ambassador from Afghanistan has come to NYC to address the U.N., his name is Usama Bin Laden. Ambassador Bin Laden has announced that he plans a public apology for the “misunderstanding” of the events of 9/11. This apology will occur exactly 20 years to the minute the first plane hit the WTC; this will be on the observation deck at the newly renamed “Unity Tower” built on the hallowed grounds where the WTC once stood.

You know, Lyra/liar never occurred to me? God, that English degree was three years wasted.
You are so funny.
I had to write a 25 page paper on the Golden Compass for my library class. Here is passage I wrote for the name.
According to Phillip Pullman, Lyra’s name has no meaning. However, the name has connections with the stars and constellations. Lyra the star resides in the constellation of Orion. The Lyre is also an instrument that Mrs. Coulter planned on teaching Lyra. The word lyre is pronounced like a person who lies, which Lyra does prodigiously. Her ability to lie is cemented in stone by Iorek who gives her the name Silver tongue.

Me likes the look of Madmans drum and God's Man, where are they available from?
God's man just came back in print after being out of print since 1931. I believe Dover publishes it. The Madmans drum you'll have to wait till October. I am quite excited about it being released. Most colleges have copies of his work. You can order both from amazon.
My avatar is from the Madman's drum.

Has anyone read or I guess the better word would be visually soaked up Lynd Wards God's Man and the Madman's Drum. I wasn't going to add these but according to the Comics Journal it falls under comic book, despite coming out in 1929 and 1930 and being composed entirely of woodcuts.
God's man is faustian tale and the Madman's drum involves a cursed drum taken by a slave trader that brings madness to his family. Both books have a stunning array of art deco executed woodcuts that are nothing short of awe inspiring.
I also quite enjoy Frans Masereel whose style can be seen in many modern comics.

Lyra is the main character from His Dark Materials. The name sounds somewhat like liar which is one of her abilities.

lyra, I'm not sure how your latest works escaped my notice for so long, but I'm glad I finally saw them. Wow doesn't even gbegin to cover my reaction. They're gorgeous!Think what a cool shop/club we could make!
The STH Art Guild!
your frog goroth is fantastic very life like you can almost see it breathing. Great job. A guild would be a fantastic idea.

How long have you been doing this? They're good!
Both pieces you've attached.
So you do primarily "bas-relief"? Or do you also do full scuptures?
I dabble in paints primarily but cant make the transition to water colors.... which require a very delicate hand
You guys really are fascinating....
I've never done a full sculpture just base relief. I would like too though. I'm taking a painting class this fall so maybe i'll be able to hone some of my skills. I love water colors and egg tempera.
I'd like to be able to carve something like the Kilpeck door in Wales.

Fantastic post Christian.
I guess the reason I've liked Hellblazer for so long is he is not your traditional comic book character. He isn't wealthy debutant who runs around in a pair of spandex. As time has progressed John has begun to use more and more magic would he have used the gun to kill his fathers killer now or send demon? John is becoming more and more less of an everyday man that most of us can relate to sadly. I find myself actually more interested in Chas one of the most a-typical side kicks ever.
You might be an "old" comic fan if....

You ordered a Charles Atlas kit or X-ray glasses. I also remember being able to scrape some table change together to buy comics now I need to take a loan I want to keep up with everything.
