Wow, fantastic review short and to the point. Bravo!!!!

Very good, did it take you a long time to do? It's very impressive.
It took about a week to make 40 hours of so. I like to use a variety of handcarving tools but if you can trace you can wood carve. All you need to do is buy a SCM carving system, sort of like a dental tool and a get a 100 psi air compressor and your set. I didn't know how to carve earlier this year and now my work is showing more depth and dimension.
SCM http://www.scmsysteminc.com/engraving.php The big thing is it doesn't vibrate at all like a power tool.

I've been working on a hell themed book cover since John took the backdoor to hell with Nergal. I hope you like it. The style and theme is a visgothian/french medieval scene of the oncoming apocalypse. Satan sits chained to his throne with the anti-christ on his lap. His throne recalls images of cerebus the guardian dog of hades, these dogs devour the damned. This particular image comes from a panel of the layers of hell, Satan sits on the lowest level. His throne is encircled by two giant Mozarabic great dragons. Mozarabic is a style of art of early spain that blended both Visgothian and Arab traditions. A border surrounds the dragons composed of many demons.

Wow. Almost makes me wish AHE was black and white.
Bump. Amazing line control nothing short of awe inspiring. How long does it take to ink a page? What inks and pens do you like to use in your craft.

Less than a day left and the reserve hasn't been met.
He really wanted quite a bit for it i guess. Usually, the seller if they are smart will put how much the reserve is in the listing. The second highest bidder looks like he spent over 30,000 dollars on comics alone this month.
-
Bugger, the guy selling that dropped me a line a few weeks back and I forgot all about it.
how big is it? He should of sold it on the eve of the release of Constantine.

The stunning cover for issue 55 has been listed on e-bay. I wish i had the loot to buy it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...6543319594&rd=1

John: Chas, I won't need you to pick me up tonight. Wonder Woman is going to fly me to hell in her Invisible Jet.
-
John: Chas, I had the best sex of my life with a dog in Doglick.
-
John: I've let Jesus into my heart.

I wonder what the DC editor was thinking when he let the whole K9 thing go through. I had no problem letting go of my entire 100 Bullets collection this month to help pay for my hellblazer subscription. I do love Az's hard time story line sort of a souped up OZ. HE just made John far to depraved.
-
This is horrible Tim. Your Hellblazer covers set it apart from everything else on the comic book rack. I can't believe DC is letting go one of the best cover artist's in the industry. One of the 14,000 regulars

lyra, by any chance have you read the graphic novel Epileptic? It contains some fantastic imagery that I could really see working well for your grimoires.
hello, i haven't heard of epileptic. I will have to look this up. thanks for the tip.
I've been working with sandcasting as of late hoping to make metal impressions of my carvings. So, far i haven't had much luck. I decided to carve a Trisklele image. I used a really dark grainy wood so sorry if doesn't look so hot. Carving the snake bones is quite a chore and it is sort of hard to figure out which one overlaps the next, i deleted quite a few of her ribs.

I always felt sorry for chas he is always being told what to do by either his mother, constantine and his wife. I kinda of wondered what would happen if he snapped. I sort of saw him wailing on his wife in the cards she just nags him to death and her appearance is hauntingly close to his mothers. I did love the touch of his wife with the iron pointing it at him, that was grand. Constantine has really made a mess of his life but this is may be the price for having constantine rid him of literally a monkey on his back (issue 84).

I was sort of shocked 2 weeks ago to find out a Hellblazer related comic sold out. I usually don't go to the comic store on the release day maybe on friday or so. I'm used to the comic store just carrying 3 hellblazer comics and the other 2 sitting on the shelf after i bought mine till next month but papa midnight sold out.
I picked up the second issue it has that ultimate spiderman look i'm afraid if this was 1992 we would have a rob lefield(sp) look; very trendy. It seems to fall in line with most hellblazer special min-series releases second string filler. I think the first hellblazer annual was just about the only worthwhile special issue.
I would wait a few months and pick up the whole min-series on e-bay after the hellblazer interest dies down a bit.
The story was alright but nothing i would ever read again.

I nominate Starship Troopers. Though, the film was very entertaining they eliminated the troopers armor and aliens which are quite central to the book.
Then there is a Beautiful mind. A fantastic book with a warts and all approach that creates a picture of a highly flawed but brilliant mind. The film on the other hand has us believing Nash is just an absent minded professor and just goes through the hollywood motions. For instance Nash's little George michael incident in a mens bathroom that got him kicked out of the Rand institute is totally ignored. His wife didn't stay by him during his breakdown, she divorced him etc....

Do you have one that has angles instead of demons on the cover. Cause I don't wanna get cursed.
Not that I believe in that sort of thing.
This one has some martyrs in the background and is based on Beatus imagery, so it quite christian.
-
That is the coolest thing I have ever seen. :o
I silk screened the interior pages of the book. The japanese silk screen machine called gocco is fantastic for reproducing color images on paper. Most of the images are based on a mozarabic style which is sort of a medieval spanish style of painting that blended arabic and viso-gothic styles. I adore the color and unique designs

Wait a minute! You handcarved this alone?!
It's absolutely beautiful! I want that shit tattooed on my skin!
I sort of make the books as a hobby. I have made about 25 books this year.
At first, i really didn't know how to carve everything was two dimensional. I spent probably 20 hours a week carving over the the past year and finally, i can get the dimension i desire.
I just bought a foundry, so i plan to start casting the center image in either broze or brass. I can't wait.
I have sold quite a few on e-bay.
You are very kind for comments about wanting this as a tattoo. I sort of go for the simplicity of line, much eaiser to carve and i suppose tattoo as well.
I took the designs for the carving section out a really badly photographed medieval art book about death.

a fence-sitting 7 from me. I knew who the Ratboy would turn out to be, but the cliffhanger is a bit too much, althogh that may be due to the fact that the solicits let us know where John'ss be going next. i'm not getting on the Gemma-love bandwagon, alas. I liked the little exchange 'tween Demon Chas and Angie. Tony Masters's visitation reminded me too much of an old BoM storyline.
I am not a particular fan of Gemma she is sort of dragging hellblazer into Soap opera territory. I always find it amazing John has any friend left to be killed.

I always imaged Vinnie Jones from Lock STock and two smoking barrels as chas. He seems like someone who would have no problem bringing out the tire iron.
-
Thanks for all the compliments. I agree it would make leather book cover made of daniels skin would be neat.
I've been making these for about a year or so here are some of the others if you would like to see. My Webpage

My favorite demon in the Hellblazer anthology is Trisklele the succubae who slew the archangel Dariel, whose angelic face she uses to cover her hideous visage. I hAND CARVED the hondurian mahagony and later embossed a piece of 36 gauge brass with Trisklele. I then gold leafed and outlined the image in oil based paint. I think it looks like something John might keep in his storage locker.
(Bradstreet) It's been a great run folks . . .

Thanks. I enjoyed the first two books but the Amber Spyglass seemed to be cluttered. Changed my avatar to a Lynd Ward woodcut 1930's madmans drum.
