  1. Shame abut Grammer's politics, though.

Im guessing he wasnt an Obama supporter then...quite the opposite?

The Wire's fifth and final series recently completed it's run on FX in the UK. I'm not sure if they aired every series but I know that's it's never been on terrestrial telly. If you've got a Virgin tv package they sometimes have series one as part of their HBO "On Demand" thingy. That's how I first saw it.

Thanks I'll look out for it - hopefully they'll repeat it - we have Sky so it's bound to be on there somewhere?

a wonderfully spicy aroma, with hints of incense...........a really striking aroma, dominated by vanilla, with a splendidly full-bodied aftertaste giving just a hint of smokiness and sweet fruits.

You have a talented palate Mark! It's all I can do to describe a red wine as full-bodied or vinegary - god knows I drink enough of it.

  2. Nice to be back - big hug!

    -----------

Shit weekend - had a stand up fight with a floor-fitter on Friday eve who'd fitted our new floor badly and then walked out in a huff when I told him i was pissed off at his slimy unreliable behaviour.

Spent the rest of the weekend feeling disproportionately depressed.

I've had enough of tradesmen to last a lifetime thank you very much.

  3. I also, as of last Friday/Saturday, love love love Japanese whisky.

Can you even begin to describe the taste? Does it compare to any other whisky? How's your head today???hehehe.

Another Frasier fan - what a relief. Sometimes I think Im the only one who likes it.

Does anyone know if the Wire is on uk tv anywhere - so many people rave about it...

  4. Using the term "fuckeration"

    Now that's a word....

I love the sensation you get after one glass of red wine - a gentle buzz that starts from your feet and goes up your legs - when it hits your brain you feel you can take on the world.

yes, that's just ONE glass -

PS - Mr Tom - is Bedford Falls your band?

  5. Given that last "what have you", I'm going to conclude that Akhira was hiding in a home-made Rum Cake that was strategically hidden in our office while Kat took a bow. Suddenly life seems a little more like a German music video. But I digress...

I love German music videos. Not all of them, of course, just the ones that really show the Germanness of the band in question. You know what I mean? I just watched a music video put out by the German metal band "In Extremo". It had something to do with vampires, runes, and a guy in a suit. There is a German phrase which basically means, in English, "What the fuck are you talking about?". The phrase is, simply, "Echt?" I like it when people express their idea in a manner that makes you have to think about what you just saw in order to understand it. I am not a cow, I do not love being fed sugar coated mindless garbage that calls itself artistic expression.

Oh yeah, I also love the sexy feeling you get when things are operating smoothly. The small things. Like when the water reaches boiling level, the pot shivers, overwhelmed by heat, ready to burst. It whistles at you, the safe word, and you quiet it, taking it away from the heat, the metal slightly burning your hand, you can still feel the turmoil inside, shaking and anxious. But when you lift it the kettle is calmed and the shivering becomes the gentle shifting of water as you set it down. You turn the stove off with a satisfying click, moving your hands like the conductor of an orchestra. Then the mug is cold in your hands compared to the kettle's excitement. It is solid and quiet. You reach into the cupboard and select English Breakfast. It slides out slowly from it's little box, the other tea packets are disturbed, but return to rest. It is so light and fragile in your hands. You contemplate the designs for a moment, the lettering on the logo, maybe there's a picture. Then, slowly, your fingers impulsively grasp the corners and the alarming sound of tearing fills the kitchen, as the inner contents are revealed. But it's okay, the air is then filled with the smell of antiquity, the smell of tradition. You close the cupboard and breathe, just breathe, for a moment, the steam and the smell of old tea leaves. Anticipation. Of course, these are mere objects, so you carelessly drop the teabag into the cold mug, make it sit there in the open air for a moment on the counter. Maybe you pull out a pack of cigarettes, aggressively ignoring your tea as the water cools. Yes, you open the flip-top cigarette box, at your hand's command the box top opens and reveals sin. You place a finger on the countless filters peering out at you, then make your selection by pushing your thumb against the chosen. The carefully sealed tube slides against others, offering a weak resistance, a sound so familiar, as you pull it out into the open. The sweet and dangerous scent of tobacco mingles with the now impatient tea. Make it wait. You fumble through your pocket, loose change, keys, maybe a receipt or two, ah! The cold and practical lighter. Plastic fills your grip and you pull it out, place the cigarette between calm lips, it dangles there, you raise the lighter and force the flint, creating flame. Your mouth becomes hot and you breathe deep, placing the lighter back into obscurity. The air is corrupted as you breathe out. Your face is wrapped in sticky smoke. Now, let the tea know it is not forgotten. Letting the cigarette rest between your lips, pick up the hot kettle and let it hover over the mug. Tip it carefully, now. Crystal clear steaming water spews from the spout and dances at the bottom of the mug. The teabag swells and clings to the surface as the steam collects the leaves and brings it to your senses. Wet and dry combined, swirling in chaos within confined quarters. The light cinnamon tint of the spice filters into the clean water and embraces it. You can hear the mug reaching its maximum so you tip the kettle back and put it down, that's enough. Don't want to make a mess. Steam and smoke dominate the kitchen at the will of your hands. The world is yours for the moment. Relax.

    Tea is sexy.

Damn it, I though I could (for once) keep a post short. No one else will appreciate this. Maybe I'll just lay off this whole "internet forum" thing for a while and start writing in a journal or something.

Oh yeah, I also declare love for dressing up in a sharp suit and cooking things.

...flippin eck!! Are you a writer? You bloody should be.

PS - that's the most words Ive read in months - my head hurts now - I think I'll go and make a cup of tea...

  6. I have a wife, therefore I know nothing of smugness.

Oh I thought when one was single that was how everyone felt once they'd bagged a spouse hehe......just shows what i know....

I too am looking to get into WoW. There are quite a few people at the comic shop I work at (employees and customers) that play and have generated interest for me.

That's what initially put me off - the image of it as an uber geeks thing - but I stand corrected in my horrid stereotyping of comic-reading long-haired nerds (sorry - I mean Wow participants who read comics)

but now I know girls play it its OK....

  7. Eventually you'll come back around to that conclusion

    Oh...

I doubt it - I still play the original Unreal from like 10 years ago or something and still wonder in amazement every time i play it.

I think Im missing some vital brain cells.

  8. 1. Kinki is back. Congrats on getting married. I too am in "bliss" as of a year ago.

Soon come the obsession of: ONLINE GAMING!!!

Can relate to the online gaming thing too - just started playing WOW a short while back and get it now finally after previously thinking it was a load of bollocks.

  9. Hey, long time no see. Welcome back!

Married, eh? Congratulations...that makes two of us (OK, three if you count Malin, which I really ought to).

Glad to hear life's treating you well. Are you back properly, or is this just a flying visit?

Wow congrats to the two of you too....hopefully i'll stick around for a bit - I've thought about you guys a lot over the last two years but other 'stuff' has got in the way of spending time on here - I've missed chatting though -

Just getting used to the result of the US election - stayed up all night - did anyone else? Wasnt it amazing - brought a tear to my eye.....thank God Mr McCain oven chips didnt get his sticky mitts on the white house.

And dont get me started on that Sarah Palin monstrosity - oh my god. There's probably a thread for this isnt there....oops.

  10. Er....hello...again.....blimey, so much to read - so very little time. I was trepidatious (sp??) at logging in, as if everyone would suddenly see my name and go 'kinki who?' (yeah right - as if - you all have much more important issues to discuss!!).....but I just thought I'd see if all the old faces were still here - and you all are!!!!! Fab...

Any road up - in case anyone remembers me and gives half a toss ( ) - I am now MARRIED and blissfully happy for once in my life. I could go into all sorts of tedious stuff about having two dogs, a new house, bla bla bla - but who wants to read that...anyway...once again hello everyone and happy belated Halloween....xx

  11. Keane, hands down. All sounds like mush to me. Like all different colours of paint mixed together by a 4-year old that ends up making brown.

In fact that goes for a lot of contemporary stuff reminiscent of Keane.
