Acne sounds right.

 

What I was thinking of was: buboes are the hideous, painful swellings that one gets when one has bubonic plague ("The Black Death") - so my analogy was that a bubo is "something like a sore" in the same way as a tank is "something like a car". A tank moves and has an engine, just like a car, but it's five times the size and covered in guns and armour, see? :)
