  1. Have you seen his issue of Global Frequency ?

    It's the fucking business.

This is just another reminder that I haven't been in a comic shop for months since I moved. Not even sure where one might be close to me. I have not seen that issue but heard it was awesome.

I really wish you guys could see the Hellboy stuff he did before he was uncerimoniously dumped.

"WOW" is about all I could get out of my mouth before the drooling began.

  2. I think people are just interested in why Lauren's no longer on covers - his work wasn't that warmly received but it'd be real shit if his cover for #218 was pulled just because it has Johnny Boy on a cross.

I agree, that would indeed be unfortunate. Especially in light of the fact that it had been released, and seen by the public, and billed as the cover. To backtrack from there seems a damn shame regardless of the reason.

I also agree with Hagren, that I would have liked to have seen one artist represent the story arc from a cover perspective.

I was simply commenting on the somewhat negative response (found previously on this thread) to Bermejo's execution of this replacement cover. Is it his best work? Probably not. Is it damn good? Definitely. Lee is still growing and evolving. And I think that it'll be a real treat to watch that happen every month on Hellblazer, especially knowing Lee's affection for the title and the character. It is most serendipitous that things are in the hands of someone who genuinely loves the material and didn't end up in the hands of the flavor of the month or worse.

  3. Not true, fearless leader.

I love the kid it's true but that has nothing to do with my honest appraisal. You only have to know me for about 8 seconds to know I don't blow smoke unless I'm cranking a Winston.

  4. I'm slightly mystified.

I think this cover is tits.

It's hard for me to fathom how anyone could be anything but head over heels for Bermejo's knuckle jarring, shadow carved, stylistic handiwork.

  5. Damn you busy SOB.

This exclusive contract crap is absolutely KILLING me.

I'd absolutely LOVE to get you on one of our books but it sounds like that may be an impossibility for the here and now with DC locking you up Jock. When we speak through email I hope to get more details of your indentured servitude. We're not going anywhere and have projects lined up into the next 2-3 years so hopefully . . at some point . . .

    - And Test - I hate to step in and correct something that you probably already are aware of.

But those are inked pages Jock posted. Gorgeous, fantastic, incredible inks ;)

  6. Want me to take this one Jock?

And by the way . . . ABSOLUTELY STUNNING page.

We may have to make a trade when you finish that story.

I'm glad you're coloring it and not someone else.

I could see any number of lame colorists ruining those pages.

    Thankfully, you have control there.

Now only the printer has a chance to fuck it up ;)

    And remember - EMAIL me.

    OK - Fullmetal -

You could be using a lead that is too hard. You may want to try a softer lead like an "HB" which is still hard but also soft and dark. If that's still too hard then try a "B" lead.

An honestly, in my opinion I don't ever really mind seeing some leftovers from the pencil lines populating a piece of art. You can kind of see where it started and that's cool.

Unless of course you are carving furrows into your board because you are pressing down so hard. If that is the case you just need to let up a little. The pencil is very much like a saw. You just have to let it do the work. If it's a control issue and pressing down hard is your way of having control, then seriously, just try backing off. Forcing control isn't the answer.

Case in point - You know when you get a new video game and you play it all day until your hand or fingers start to hurt from grasping the controller too hard? Eventually you learn to know the controls well enough that you can back off and relax. When you can relax your hands when playing a video game you know you got that sucker licked. Same thing with penciling.

    Anything to add Brother Jock?

  7. Lou -

You don't have to tip me off to your order since the proof orders go through me.

And while it's true that I don't your last name I'm pretty sure an order from Lou K . . . shipping to Michigan will tell me all I need to know ;)

Good luck with this impending marriage my man. I know all about secret cash stashes, I've been married for 9 years and I'm full of good advice . . heheh.

If they know about it you can bet it will get spent. That's not a dig against the ladies, it's just the hard simple truth (at least in my experience).

    - "um...that wasn't covered in my Havana Tour book..."

lol, exactly Test. They never show you that shit in the guides.

  8. Nice -

I love this added bonus of the Carey signatures. That's awesome.

Now I have to get him to sign some of mine.

Glad you all are digging the proofs. It was definitely our pleasure.

It's always a special day when Jock swaggers into a thread.

Watch out about that "I owe you one" stuff. I may just take you up on it and try and hire you for one of our projects at RAW. We have a Werewolf story that you would be excellent for.

Drop me a line at - tim@timbradstreet.com when you have a chance.

Opened the can of worms dincha.

  9. LOU!

How ya been you magnificent bastard?

I know how much you love them GI Joe's ;)

If you end up ordering proofs I'll send you something extra special.

    - Always -

I think the first issue will come out in June or July.

When I talk to Vankin again I'll find out for sure.

  10. Well, maybe some elements of the Punisher. He's gruff, that's for sure. He's a pill-popping, alcohol drenched, smoking, self-medicator. He medicates to beat back the weird shit he sees, at least that's the way it was in the early days which also got him kicked off the force. Now he's like a private dick that specializes in the weird. His partner is a Ghoul named Mo'Lock. I've always loved Steve's take with the Ghouls. It's basically like Night Of The Living Dead really happened, and then somewhere along the line the undead realized that they didn't have to eat humans to survive. Their consciousness started to re-ignite and they pretty much have resumed their lives but live on the fringe of society (cab driver, janitor). Cal's had the shit kicked out of him so many times. He's had more sutures than a Cuban hooker on free stitches night. It's just fun stuff.

And the whole - sees weird shit, has a sensitivity to the supernatural and odd, thing - is something Steve came up with 15 years ago, so it's not like he's jumping on the bandwagon with this character. It's hard boiled detective stuff, wrapped in horror, wrapped in black comedy. It doesn't take itself too seriously. Cal is just a really great character and these books are good, hard fun.

  11. By the way - Another new update is up > http://timbradstreet.typepad.com/

A little smidge on Sandman Mystery Theater . . .

Oh , and please feel free to manuever anyone you think may be interested over.

I hate stooping to promoting my own self here but I'm a one man operation with no one to do it for me so I really have to rely on word of mouth right now. Not sure when Google's spiders will track me down and list me.

This artist would appreciate it my friends,

    - Tim

Again, John, if there is a more appropriate place for this thread feel free to move it.

  12. I'm sure they'll speak for themselves but we (I say we . . heh) have Hellblazer fans from all over the planet here. The great thing about this forum community is that people from those places where the material is hard to find can come here and find it. And usually the good folks here can help those people obtain the stuff they are looking for. I know of quite a few occasions where someone with access to the material on the stands have mailed stuff out to people with no access. That's pretty cool.

  13. Yeah, monthly as far as I know. That's the word I've been given.

Andy - The Cal books - "Savage Membrane", "Guns, Drugs, And Monsters", and Dial M For Monster", are awesome. Everything you need to read before picking up the series.

It's very fun stuff and I recommend the IDW editions because they are larger than paperback size with good cover stock and illustrated. Highly recommended.

  14. Oh man, those colors reproduce so gorgeously on that watercolor paper.

I could even tell from the snapshot.

Glad you diggem Mark. It's a good feeling to know that a discerning taste such as yours can be sated somewhat by the like of me. Hand delivered by Carey. How cool is that?

  15. Hey kids -

Thought I'd let you know that I have a new summer home on the web.

You can access it here > http://www.timbradstreet.typepad.com

I'm really not a blogger so it will be mostly updates, links and news, as well as some juicy portfolios. There is some content there now and it will be expanding in a huge way over the coming weeks. My web sales partner and I are also doing a huge new update so there will be a ton more product available at the sales site (link to the left of the page). I've added 50 new artist proofs and we will also be offering signed comics for the first time. First up is the "Serenity: Those Left Behind" collection. They will be in very short supply. I'll make an official announcement on the blog site when that stuff is up and available, should be on the 6th or the 7th.

Hope you guys like what I've got up so far. Please stop by lots ;)

John - If this thread is better off in a different place feel free to move it where it needs to go. Just give me a heads up.

    Cheers all.

  16. Wheres your avatar from Tim?

Could you show me the larger version!

There is no larger version. I worked this up specifically for an avatar when I was working on a Hellblazer inventory cover a while back. You can see a shot of the inventory cover on the UK proof order string (page 5). It's a similar shot of JC but not the same one as I chose for the inventory.

Used one of the same background elements for the avatar though. Both of them look similar but my avatar is like "inventory cover light". It's the postage stamp version.

  17. Many of the 70s 80s and early 90s comics are improved by making them B&W.

That aint no shit. Computer OVERcolor is so hard to digest for me. You know, where all the characters and everything in their environment has been worked to a high sheen of polish? The skin, the weapons, the hair, the rug on the floor, the cat in the elevator, the heavy wool garments on the strippers, even the sky! The Punisher series from Marvel Knights is a good example. Steve Dillon made to look so 3D in places that it looked like a video game.

I'd much rather see those pages in black and white. Jesus, it's Steve Dillon for christ sakes!

The coloring in Preacher suited his work MUCH better. Simple and subtle.

Also - We love the coloring Grant Goleash is doing on Bad Planet, but Tom and I have plans to do a limited black and white version of the TPB when we release it. The black and white pages are just gorgeous and we actually get girly looking at them without color. Lewis really fills the page and I think that is important for a black and white book too. If it's too simple or spare it just looks cheap.

  18. Umm... I mean... I can't confirm or deny that I'M THE NEW WRITER ON X-MEN.  That may or may not be true.  I couldn't possibly say.  If I were, I'd be taking over in July.  With issue 188.  And how cool would that be?  If it were true?  Which it might or might not be?

    Heheh, you clever bastard ;)

    That is way too funny.
