  1. I cannot say that I cared for the last two issues of Black Hammer though. It's not that it was bad, but the 'creations meet their creators' bit has been done to death and if this is where the whole thing is headed then it seems like a cheap cop out to me.

  2. Picked up the 2 Umbrella Academy trades. Grant Morrison jocking it in Supergods got me interested. Only cracked the first couple of pages but I dig it so far. Love the art, and any story that begins with an atomic elbow on a space squid pretty much has my attention

  3. I do not know how drug testing works, I've never done it. But could one not argue, "Oh, I smoked the night before, must be what triggered the test, I was not stoned while driving."? Or maybe the roadside tests have advanced, I don't know.

But really I appreciate the decriminalizing possession aspect of it. Our prisons in Michigan are extremely over crowded (have family and friends who are corrections officers, can confirm). Housing non violent drug "offenders" does not help that situation. Nor does housing the mentally ill. Some years ago the Governor decided not to spend money on Mental Health Institutions, so a lot of those troubled souls ended up on the street, which leads to alcoholism, vagrancy and ultimately jail. That is NOT the help these people need. But, sadly, incarceration is an industry, and their currency seems to be people.

  4. Reading Velvet by Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting.

Pretty damn good comic. Brubaker is great at espionage tales and this one delivers. It's pretty much, and this is obvious so I don't think it requires a spoiler tag, a James Bond tale where "What if Miss Moneypenny was actually a high profile agent".

What are proposition 1 and 2?

    Prop 1

A proposed initiated law to authorize and legalize possession, use and cultivation of marijuana products by individuals who are at least 21 years of age and older, and commercial sales of marijuana through state-licensed retailers

    This proposal would:
    ·      Allow individuals 21 and older to purchase, possess and use marijuana and marijuana-infused edibles, and grow up to 12 marijuana plants for personal consumption.
    ·      Impose a 10-ounce limit for marijuana kept at residences and require amounts over 2.5 ounces be secured in locked containers.
    ·      Create a state licensing system for marijuana businesses and allow municipalities to ban or restrict them.
    ·      Permit retail sales of marijuana and edibles subject to a 10% tax, dedicated to implementation costs, clinical trials, schools, roads, and municipalities where marijuana businesses are located.
    ·      Change several current violations from crimes to civil infractions.

    Prop 2

A proposed constitutional amendment to establish a commission of citizens with exclusive authority to adopt district boundaries for the Michigan Senate, Michigan House of Representatives and U.S. Congress, every 10 years

    This proposed constitutional amendment would:
    ·      Create a commission of 13 registered voters randomly selected by the Secretary of State:
        - 4 each who self-identify as affiliated with the 2 major political parties; and
        - 5 who self-identify as unaffiliated with major political parties
    ·      Prohibit partisan officeholders and candidates, their employees, certain relatives, and lobbyists from serving as commissioners
    ·      Establish new redistricting criteria including geographically compact and contiguous districts of equal population, reflecting Michigan's diverse population and communities of interest. Districts shall not provide disproportionate advantage to political parties or candidates.
    ·      Require an appropriation of funds for commission operations and commissioner compensation.
    Should this proposal be adopted?

Now, I am a weed smoker, so of course I do support Prop 1, but I also feel like it is quite open ended. I think the tax revenue stream will be amazingly beneficial but I have absolutely no faith that the funds will find their intended target (fixing roads and schools). I also question whether the general public can act responsibly. (For example, my car has been smashed twice in the past four months, on one occasion having to go without it for over a month due to repair). Each time was a kid on their cell phone. Now give them weed. Great. So hopefully some regulation comes into play here to lay down some guidelines.

EDIT - From the detroit news - " Smoking marijuana in public will not be legal under the new law, nor will driving under the influence of marijuana. " So that is a good thing. I don;t know how you will test for driving under impairment as it stays in your system for so long.

Those Rifle Brigade comics are still entertaining if you've not read the stories he's taking the piss out of then?

They are, but maybe less so (clearly I wouldn't know having not read the source material). After a wile they become just another Garth Ennis dick and fart and homo jokes extravaganza, which is probably why I no longer have them in my collection.

  7. GAWD DAMMIT!

    forgot about those hahaha

edit - I think my first exposure was the Bloody Mary minis they did for Helix (Vertigo). Dredd was not as easy to get over here as it is now, or maybe I didn't look hard enough.

  8. Heroes in Crisis 1 - not sure what to think of this. It's not poorly written, but I follow so little DC stuff that I am not sure what's really going on. And, the powers that be certainly over-value Harley Quinn.
