Just finished A Tale of Two Cities - man it was fantastic! Never saw myself reading Dickens, but my wife bought it for me on a whim and turns out it is perfectly intelligible to me and more than that, it was some genius level stuff!

So I woke up this morning at 4.20am and couldn't get back to sleep. Perfect time to finally cross this off of my watchlist.
I know next to nothing about Judge Dredd - apart from what I have seen from the Stallone flick - so my comments come from a point of being uninitiated.
It was freaking awesome! One of the most violent movies I have seen in a lonnng time. But it was just so well done, the acting was classy (Karl Urban is one of those actors I get excited to see in a movie) and the story, while simple, was well executed. I have to say - it really would be a shame if it didn't get a sequel - but then - I watched it for free - so I am as much to blame...
Lastly, one of the best villian deaths I can remember - oh so pretty and oh so gruesome! We have Gavin Free from the slomoguys on youtube to thank for all those dream like sequences!

Lol!
Lou, what didn't you like about B99?
-
Haha yep, will be staying away from any spin offs.
I agree, before the last scene I was feeling a kind of meh-like malaise, but then the post fade to black just smeared on a new layer of dislike.
In more positive news I watched two new shows (for me) last night - Brooklyn nine-nine and the Newsroom.
Newsroom was a brilliant opening episode - wifey enjoyed it too - so that will fill the gap for a while now.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine was a good laugh, with some interesting characters (The captain most of all). Honestly I wasn't sure how I would feel about Andy Samberg - but he was pretty funny. However I figure that the show will only remain interesting as long as his douchebaggery isn't too overwhelming.

Going to Bali with my wife in 3 days for a wedding. So in need of a holiday! Going Scuba diving for my third time ever - can't freakin' wait!
Also, planning on going to South America in February next year! Woop woop!

So there it is, Dexter is done. I actually liked it for the most part - but I thought the closing minutes were a little unsatisfying and underwhelming. Funny - you get the season so wrong, then almost redeem it with a good send off, but to my money, screw that up too. It just feels like such a shame to see out such a quality show in such a poor way.
EDIT: This article helps a little...

Reminds me that I was told to watch newsroom - maybe might have a gander later today after I watch Dexter.

Talk about band waggoning! Is this Fox thing going too far?
-
Wow - it just got personal! However it would be typical for NZ and AUS to be lumped in together by someone who doesn't know how things work around here!

What I like most about GTA V (having not played it, or had much to do with it at all) - is that Rockstar couldn't trust it's target audience to recognise the V on the cover as the number 5. Sooooo...they had to write it over top. Not redundant at all!

Someone needs to make one of these with Daddy Dexter in it.
Also:
Why the hell would Deb call the police first and not Dexter - he must be all of what 2 minutes away?
How the hell would a U.S. Marshall - whose job is to bring in fugitives - FAIL to recognise the man who is as of that moment the most wanted person in Miami.
It's bullshit!

7.1" Really congo!?
-
Hahahaha, that would be brilliant.
Watched Dexter last night. Well, mostly I played on my phone while Dexter aired on my laptop in front of me. I actually bellowed with laughter at one line - I'd guess that will have made Slinker either laugh his head off or go out on a murderous rampage...
-
It's easy to forget that this man once was known only for his role as the goofy dad on Malcolm in the Middle. Incredible! How is it going to end!?!?!?!
-
Don't worry slinker I'm sure
she will come back and be a voice inside his head too. So glad she is gone, but seriously, how are we supposed to believe that Dexter cared enough about 'protecting Vogel' to give up his chance to leave right then and there. It's ridiculous!
Speaking of voices in his head - that episode was definitely the most grating use of his father - I've recognised what you have disliked about the inner monologue stuff slink, but yesterday was the first time I realised just how bad and jarring it is. It's such a waste of good acting talent (James Remar).
Seriously, there were so many bloody things wrong with that episode...it's hard to name them all - but I think the Quinn and Deb moment was the most laughable. First you have cheesy guitar sounds that are alerting us to the impending makeout scene, then they went all out with the "I love you too, stupid." - it was like something out of 'Days of our lives'. Then there was Harrison and his misadventure. Masuka and his daughter that nobody cares about. What's next? They spend 5 minutes rounding out the story of the Lady Lieutenant who nobody knows the name of?
Every plot device they have used in the last few episodes has been so weak - like for example the treadmill, the marshall just happening to hear that dexter is leaving etc - it's all such shoddy shoddy writing!
Oh and it might be a bit mean, but the dude playing the Marshall is terrible - he looks and sounds like the front man from a bad rock band who is trying his hand at acting.
I saw a post on imdb that suggested the only way they could redeem the show is if they escaped to argentina, and when they opened the door to their motel/apartment Sgt. Doakes is there with a knife saying "SUPRISE MOTHERF****ER!" then fade to black.
That's an ending I could get behind!
-
Ahahahaha....hohohohohoho.....hehehehehehehe......dexter is so shit. I struggle to imagine how they could be doing any worse a job of finishing this series. I'm only watching out of pity for them from this point on.

Breaking Bad whoa whoa whoa! Though
I am bewildered that they expect us to believe that two vehicles worth of crazy white power assassins would be capable of missing two extremely exposed targets that they specifically had a bead on.
-
burgeroff hahahahahaha
-
Haha, I love how we celebrate the 50 minutes that we save on a show that we have spent a lot more time on!
Oh well, just makes BB seem even more incredible! Great episode!

Ah right, I'm not into GoT or Who - and I only thought of Avengers when it came to Whedon, so yeah... I guess it wasn't really made for me haha
-
It feels like it's building to completely shit on the people like us Abhi who are holding on for some unknown reason! Last episode I even felt like "Who is this guy Dexter?' anyway, he certainly isn't the character I was fascinated by years ago. So if you don't have that, and you don't have an attempt to send the show off in an interesting and worthwhile way - what do you have left?
In it's defense, Deb actually made me laugh a couple of times - which WAS something I got very used to in the early days and haven't seen much of since.
-
I don't really get the joss/martin/moffatt thing?
-
I was getting tired of the blank staring into space, but the explosion was perfect!

It's a testament to how poorly Dexter is ending that I watch the shorts for the next episode. I would never on my life do that for a show where I care about how it was going to end. A storm, really? That's how they want to introduce tension into the show - by a natural event? Breaking Bad is oozing tension and suspense and that comes just by sitting round not ordering tacos - not some bloody storm! Woe is me for actually thinking the events of season 7 were boiling up a GOOD finale for Dexter. Also, Evelyn Vogel is shite. Seriously, I think she detracts from just about everything she has been involved with.

I did love the ending! Very fitting for the overall theme of the book.
