  1. Ade is a prince among men! I just got a package in the post containing both the three first Lucifer-issues, and a weird, surreal collage version of the Nu Constantine (which was awesome). Thanks a bunch, and let me know if I can ever do you a solid in return!

  2. On the plus side, it's privileged info. Aside from my ex-girlfriend and a long-time online friend, nobody knows about this. They know I'm miserable, but I figure they assume that's just me, or that it's the natural result of Failing At Life.

Don't ever start believing for a second that you've somehow "failed at life". That's a horrible thing to think about yourself, and from where I'm sitting quite obviously not true. You're clearly a talented, fun guy with lots going for you. The fact that you don't have a good job at the moment isn't you "failing at life". If anything, it shows deep flaws in how society works.

  3. He has serious mental health issues, from what you describe. You are entirely correct that you cannot fix them for him. But you could, and should, try to remove yourself from the toxic mental environment he creates. I'm guessing almost literally anything would be better at this point than staying where you are.

  4. This is really so VERY AWFUL so far. Lucifer is a petulant, stupid, sexist douche, who is nearly powerless. I'm not kidding, Mazikeen is a LOT more powerful than he is. Heck, most of the time normal cops are more powerful than him. And he is so, so clueless. For having lived very very long, he really has zero insight into human psychology.

It really takes some effort to be able to make the devil, of all characters, boring and unengaging. And it's ALL in the script. While I disagree with the style of casting, it really isn't Tom Ellis' fault that his character sucks. He does an OK job with the poor stuff he's given.

  5. I loved it, but I feel like the first 4 episodes were pretty much the best ones. After that, the show feels like it lost focus a bit.

I kind of agree. The main problem, I think, is that the whole part with [ Spoiler : the Hand took a lot of time to really kick into gear, and that they handled the introduction of Elektra quite badly. We weren't rellay given much of a reason to like her or be interested in her until after several episodes. She became a lot more interesting when we got more of her backstory, so it turned out good, but it sort of stuttered a bit in the middle. ]

That said, every single scene with[ Spoiler : d'Onofrios Kingpin ] was worth the entire season for me.

  6. On women working.....OK, but it's not as if women don't work in America....A large number of women might choose to not have to work in America. Cost of living in so much lower in America than in Norway, that it's easier to still have a household where only one person works, even though we are seeing more and more households where both partners do need to work. So, including females who actually aren't interesting in holding a job as part of the unemployment statistics in a country really does skew those statistics. You could have the strongest economy with every person who wants a job holding a job, and still have females who don't want to work.

No. It's the other way around. The only objectively measurable variable here is whether or not people are employed. Their REASONS for not being emplyed opens a whole cartload of wormfilled cans, and would seriously skew the statistics if you tried including it. I'm not saying they're uninteresting, just that that's a question for analyzing the reasons behind the numbers, they can't factor in the statistics themselves.

Also, statistics on female employment for America begin with females who are age 16. That's not a good point to start employment or unemployment statistics. A lot of teenagers don't hold jobs, and they aren't expected to, as they're in high school. There are laws saying that a 16 year old can't hold full-time jobs in the United States. So, that also skews the statistics. You might have a lot of 16-18 year old females who are unemployed, but it's not as if they're out in the workplace, trying to make a living, and not finding good jobs to live on.

Well, the Norwegian statistic starts at age 15, so that should actually mean that Norwegian employment rates should be even higher, compared to the US, if you counted out the 15-yearolds, who are mostly in school.

A quick check online shows that a large percentage of female workers in Norway hold part-time jobs. This is also true in the United States, to a large extent. Employment statistics don't measure if a person is working a part-time job, but wanting a full-time job, or if they are working part-time because that's all they want to work. Part-time work counts as "employed" in both Norway and the US.

I agree that that's interesting, but it doesn't really affect the overall issue we were discussing.
