I really enjoyed the movie. It's hilariously over the top, and much as I hate to admit it, Ryan Reynolds is absolutely the best guy for this role.

The main problem is trying to fit the second-most powerful being in the universe into a whodunnit cop show. They can really only do that by completely nerfing the character, which in turn makes it quite unbelievable that the can actually be the devil. If you're going to have a near-omnipotent character in a series, the challenges and problems he faces needs to be on that level too. Which is why the whole idea is pretty stupid.

It annoys me that he's really not very smart.

Hello. My semi-annual swing by time again. Time to awww all of your gorgeous offspring, and also promote a book. http://www.beatniksh...cts/three-words
Cool, what comic did you get included in it?

There's nothing wrong with younger people choosing to live with their family for longer periods. That's probably where the future is headed. Even after they get married, it's probably still going to be more affordable to continue living with the family. Having multi-generational homes is probably the best case scenario as we move further, for working class or poor people.
Sure, multigenerational housing can be a good idea, as long as it doesn't mean you're stuck living with people who aren't good for you.
However, when you say:
it's going to help get people away from the welfare State, which has helped allow the government to take over everyone's lives....I realise we either live in very different societies, or have very different views ,or both. IMHO, the welfare state has been the single biggest increase in individual liberty in history. It allows people to choose how to live their lives to an unprecedented degree, since they don't have to be constrained by their economic background. It's allowed women to choose a life outside of abusive partnerships, it's allowed gay kids, or weird kids, or whatever kids, to be able to choose a different life from what their family wants to push them into. It's allowed working class people to get education, if they want to. Et cetera. My greatest criticism of the welfare state is that it's not comprehensive enough, and still is fairly classist in many respects. But that it's a freedom machine is quite obvious.

Gwilym:
1) Your dad has serious issues, and needs help. That's probably not something you can fix, but for your own mental health's sake, you really really should move out. I got stressed out just reading about how the situation is.
2) Until you move out, find some other place to work from.

Personally, I'll take as much Capaldi as I can get.

I like Jason's poll better.
Fnarr.
Mine's a lot bigger, though.

Learning to live with, and be comfortable with, your own brain should probably be a priority. It is a nice brain, and while there are
who would probably like to take it off you, I suspect you'll need it for the foreseeable future.- 2

therapy started and the next appointment is set.
thanks guys, for telling me to go. i didn't even know how much i needed it. i know now.
Keep at it!
also I am glad to hear seventhcircle's update and it occurs to me that perhaps I should see mine because things have significantly worsened since I last did
Yes, you really should. I'm sad to hear of your troubles, and breakups suck. You seem to me to be a very talented and fun guy, with a lot going for you. I'm quite sure this slump you're in wont last for ever. But getting some help is always a good idea!

It sure does not feel great, I'll tell you that for nothin.
Trump or Clinton. Fuck me with a cinder block.
Well, at least the lesser evil is quite easy to spot.
-
Yeah, Red.
Also, you could have saved some time by making the poll simpler:
[ ] Goldfinger
[ ] Live And Let Die
Hope that helps.
Yes, because this forum is about efficiency above all else.

I object.
(1) your categories mean that for no reason other than who played James Bond, I have to vote for three songs from the bottom of the list rather than three other Connery & Moore era songs that I prefer,
True. But actors also are a nice way to delineate "eras" in James Bond. I think there's a fairly good chance that the early years will be triumphant, but we'll see.
Besides, having voting in more than one round makes for more fun!
-
On another note, it probably goes without saying, but MAN, the original "Live and let die" with McCartney/Wings is so much better than the Guns n' Roses version it's not even funny.
-
Oh, I hadn't heard about that! (googles....)
Oh my! That's fun! But weird. Not sure I like it better than Lulu's though
-
Relistening to the Madonna song, I'm struck by how much the production lets the song down. It really is really poor. The song could have been OK, given a different production. The synth sounds are awful, and the vocoder effect gruesome. The song isn't half bad, though.
-
It's OK. But Skyfall is probably the best of that bunch, even if I'm really not an Adele fan. It's the only one of them that sticks to your brain. Both the Quantum and Casino songs are fair enough, but very forgettable. The new Sam Smith song, though, is fucking horrible.
-
Remember to vote in the poll(s)! Re-listening, I have to say that the golden era of Bond-songs lasted basically until 1995, with the release of Goldeneye (which is fucking stellar - Tina Turner really kills it). After that, it's been pretty meh. Craig, especially, has pretty dire songs.
-
I'll do followup polls with the winners from round one later.
-
So, here's the big poll to settle once and for all what the best and worst Bond song is. I've split the films according to actors, and lumped Lazenby and Dalton in a single category.
For reference, here are links to the songs:
-
So it turns out
did a theme for Spectre that got rejected. It's not bad. Not awesome by any measure, but a lot better than what they went with, which is, IMHO, the poorest Bond song ever:
-
The whole situation seems really bizarre. Are those occupiers in fact demanding that federal land should be considered communal? Isn't that sort of antithetical to their extreme libertarian views on ownership?
-
It was certainly a step down from Skyfall and Casino Royale. Possibly on par with Quantum of Solace. Which basically means that Craig-era Bond is evenly split, with two fairly good, and two relatively bad films.
-
Sorry, scratch that, apparently they do, in fuckloads. So to reiterate my question: Are there any of them I should pick up first? I'm not going to read 100s of comics here.

Hells yes! I really like the idea of the Punisher as villain.
