  1. Ha ha. Tell that to your avatar.

I think for him it was much more the heroin and acid

Show us! Show us! Or, barring that, post the chord sequence and lyrics.

    Alright.

Keep in mind this is the first song that's not just lyrics that I've written, and I haven't written that many lyrics anyway.

    "Things are in the saddle"

(I wrote it in G tuning)

Well you say that you love freedom G

    I’m inclined to disagree D7

You’ve bought all fancy clothes now G

    And sold your liberty D7

You’ve got a brand new car now G

And a pocketful of gold G

But you don’t have decency D7

    Or anything y’can’t hold C

Now you can’t even afford to rest C

But you don’t pay it any mind D7

And things are in the saddle G

And things they ride mankind Cm

And you vote once in a while

And you sometimes watch the news

But did you know that all your betters

Have holes all in their shoes

How dare you hoard your money

    While half the world starves

D’know what they’ll be eating soon

It’s your shanks that they’ll carve

And they’re howlin’ in the night now

    Don’t pay it any mind

    Things are in the saddle

    And things they ride mankind

Do you know of the old heroes

    Those grand old union men

They fell for a free world

    And they will rise again

    Good don’t come from manners

    Good don’t come from schools

    Good don’t come from minivans

    From soccer fields or pools

And you could always join them

But you won’t pay them any mind

For things are in the saddle

    And things they ride mankind

Copyright is mine, anyone who wants to play it can if they want.

  2. The Bible With Sources Revealed and Who Wrote The Bible?, both by Richard Friedman.

Basically, analyzing the Hebrew used, the occurance of stock phrases in certain parts of the Pentateuch, and archeological research, Friedman is able to figure out which parts of the bible were written by groups.

The theory has been for 150 years that there was the source which uses Hashem as the name for God, the source which uses Elohim, the Priestly source, and the Law source, and that these were all edited together in the later Kingdom.

Friedman changes the dates around in a way that makes more sense, and argues that the Priestly source is a rebuttal to the JE source.

  3. This has been mentioned before, but Boston Legal is fucking great, especially since I recognize the landmarks..

Sir Shatner's really underestimated as an actor.

He brings a bit of dignity to a role that otherwise would be over-the-top buffoonery.

Worth a watch to anyone with the slightest interest in the Captain.

  4. You should have said to your friend "That's 'cause they can't keep up", then busted open a five minute long dance solo, liberally borrowing from MC Hammer, Russian Ballet, and Snoop Dogg.

That would have fucking shown him to order you around.

  5. I was just using Talbot as an example.

If Talbot had been in the news in the '90s for selling a million copies of some holographic issue that was Talbot quality, it would have been good for comics.

  6. I can think of like 6 people I know in real life who can draw better than Liefeld off the top of my head.

Goddammit every time I hear his name it pisses me off a bit, it's exposure that could have gone to Bryan Talbot or someone else who can draw and write well (D.S.).

  7. I read Kraven's Last Hunt when I was like 6, along with other "gritty-ized" Marvel comics (the gritty Fantastic Four thing by Liefeld).

I kept wondering why it was so much worse than the old Marvel collections I had til I realized the writers had changed.

But in retrospect, Kraven's Last Hunt was decent.

  8. I had a dream where (I think this is from Hitman and Once A Upon A Time in America) I got into a gunfight with the mafia, lost, got shot a lot, but managed to limp away, blood coming out of my torso in spurts.

The first thing I thought to do was get a photo, then tell StH.

I think I was going to compare it to Hitman.

  9. I've got this three disc Clash bootleg (it's I think 2 concerts a disc).

I don't have any reason to listen to their albums now.

Basically all the songs (non filler) from their first album through Sandanista!.

It's amazing when Joe forgets the lyrics and wildly improvises, but Straight To Hell (there are two versions) is a genuinely heart-rending song.

Just amazing, the recordings on From Here to Eternity look weak in comparison.
