I'd rather Stoke but I guess that's being selfish.you'd rather Milton Keynes then? -
I watched Halloween on my own on October 31st when I was about 12 or 13, my Mum had gone to babysit due to some neighbours having to take one of their kids to hospital and my Dad was out, I was told to go to bed so I did what any other self respecting kid would do and sat there scared out of my wits watching it!
The best memory I have about really scaring myself comes from the British TV series in the late 70s and early 80s.
The one that gave me most nightmares was an episode from the series Armchair Thrillers, I've looked it up and found that it was called "Quiet as a Nun" broadcast in 78 (so I was 10) I can't remember much about it except that I think there was a car crash caused by a fleeting vision of a Nun, then an investigation leads the heroine to a tower, she climbs the tower only to find a Nun with no face rocking in a chair, I had proper recurring nightmares that the nun was sat on the end of my bed facing away then slowly turns round.... shit it's all coming back to me!
Found a clip of it (okay it's dated but I was only 10) scary nun clip
The other two that did it were from the Hammer House of Horror TV series from 1980. The first being "The House that bled to Death" and the second even scarier one was the "Two Faces of Evil" and if you ever see me scream hysterically at someone dressed in a yellow souwester this is the fucked up reason why, urrgh shivers up my spine.
Lastly Children of the Stones this kid's series went out in 77 it was basically about a load of evil aliens using Avebury for weird rituals etc. it was basically the Wicker Man for messed up kids. My mates used to think was mad, when I went on about it as no-one could remember it - thank God for the internet - I'm not the only nutter. It had Gareth Thomas in it (Blake out of Blake's 7). If you've got Real player here's a decent clip from the first episode
Any other sad old git remember these??

puts the cock up they made of the remembrance of the Battle of Trafalgar a bit right
it was a bit shite wasn't it
hmmm... cock up... Nelson's Column... do I see an association here
-
God, they dug out MPeople's Heather Small to sing at Trafalgar Square just like they did at the Commonwealth games. Does she sit at home waiting for the sports council to ring or something.
Nah, poor thing just turns up and starts singing and no-one has the heart to tell her to shut up!
hmmmm Trafalgar - victory... oh dear that's a bit unfortunate

...and now he wants to stay, confused chap that one.
Can we save this Gerrard part of the thread to use again next summer and the summer after that.....

Is this defo going to happen, the site seems very sketchy?
Got to take issue with
Well that would mean Birmingham then wouldn't it?We believe that by recentralizing the event once more, to give easier access to all parts of the UK, we will boost attendance.I've got a mate who lives in Brighton, so I would be very interested.... but it would be my first time

Had a great bit of luck on Friday when I went to pick up Hellblazer, Albion and Shining Knight. I'd been in on Thursday but this weeks comics weren't out, so the guy kindly offered to put my stuff aside when he sorted them and suggested a standing order etc. I went in the next day and he told me that Shane Oakley uses that particular comic shop to pick up some of his comics and had been in the day before and he'd got my copy of Albion #1 signed by him, being the sad type I am this pretty much knocked me star struck and made my day.
Not knowing much about his art I did a bit of searching and came up with this:
When I was at college, in Staffordshire, I was doing a degree in design, which meant I got involved in graphics illustration and animated films. While in Stoke-on-Trent I joined a local crowd of people, producing fanzines. It was a wonderful time, surrounded by enthusiastic young comic creators, including D’israeli, Shane Oakley, Gary Crutchley, Andrew Elliott and Andy Yoxall. I took up pencilling at this stage and did a few bits here and there, just persevering and stuck at it. My first gig was an AIDS charity comic, Strip-Aid, which led to offers of work elsewhere. Some of my early work was published in the satire magazine called "Truth" – I drew a lot of strips there, I basically just kept on pumping in as much as possible, making as much of it as I could. This helped me develop relationships and contacts. I joined the SSI [society Strip Illustration]; Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean joined at the same time.So I'm now dumbstruck not only Shane Oakley but Mark Buckingham, I've tried to work the dates out but I think I must have missed them at College by about 3 years - bugga, I could've been a right groupie!
So you'll have to understand that any review I do of Albion will now be completely biased, but of course it's brilliant and the art work is top notch! Seriously, I enjoyed it, the details of the old heroes/characters are very sketchy but that may be on purpose. I knew some of the names but very little detail about any of them. I've since looked them up and the very initial feelings I got seem to be correct, so this slight fog of confusion is probably intentional. The whole issue had the feel of a prologue to bring you to the question on one of the last pages "Where did they all go", ready to start to be answered over the next 5 issues, Oakley's artwork fits really well with the story and I'm certainly hooked, but as I said I'm now biased!

this will probably read fine as part of a completed story, but as a single-issue reading experience, it was flat as hell.
Having been catching up on HB via trades, I too found this like the issues you seem to get in most arcs where important information is imparted without much seeming to happen, these issues are usually needed for the whole but when you're waiting like an impatient kid for a whole month, tends to not quite live up to the expectations of what you want from yer monthly read.
The aspect I really did like was Nergal revealing his paternal instincts (weakness or clan building?) and the dismissal of menial duties to the First in comparison with his attention to Rosacarnis' demonic upbringing (think I could get a couple of good tips for my kids )
Loved the art - sketchy at times but I like that.
I'm enjoying John's sojurn into Hell, as it's obviously a massive and necessary part of his character to interact with this plane, but I still prefer John mired in shite in some gritty urban situation, more connection I guess.

Human eating spider aliens + alien who kills spider aliens + possible extinction of the human race + punk rock
...can't really ask for more can you.
unless you include a free cd with music to read the comic to

I don't see much difference between this and the Michael Owen Lucozade campaign, or for that matter the lucozade Alan Shearer campaign or even the John Barnes campaign....
.... actually I'm being a bit unfair on the zombies.

The ability to create a soundproof forcefield, then I really could shut myself off from the rest of the world whenever I wanted to... ahhh peace and harmony in my own little world.
Bad and dangerous powers:
Telepathy: I'm already paranoid enough this would only confirm my worst fears...
Death Ray: Add this to the above and a take on the old Travis Bickle line starts to look ominous: "You talking to me (in my head). Well I'm the only one here, (apart from you and the other million voices)" No not a good idea.

This weekend is the US National Kendo Championships, which are being held in Ann Arbor
Is this like the start of the Derek and Clive Joan Crawford clip Can you all fit inside Ms Arbor and doesn't she mind??
EDIT: by the way have a nice break... the holiday I mean, not a kendo related injury.

She's from a place called Malvern in Worcestershire, England
Good area of the country to grow up in I was born and raised in Worcester and spent many a happy night in Malvern, there's nothing quite like watching a summer's sunrise when spaced out on the hills! So next time you're there
A while ago they used to have bands on at the Malvern Winter Gardens venue, but I think they just have plays now, saw Boomtown Rats, Damned, Hawkwind, Roy Harper and others there. I think Worcester used to have the most pubs in a square mile in England but they're mostly theme pubs and wine bars now!
Do you reckon you might do any gigs down there, I'll drop down at my mates for the weekend if you do.

Hey dude! You're taxi driver no more! annataz... You can feel proud.
Hey yeh annataz (foxy lady that she is), so what gives, I had to do the miles, live the life, getting up at 3am in the morning to drive some drunk to the airport was hard, I'll tell yah. The kids hardly saw me, and then that bastard Constantine always stirring things up with me missus. I was glad to get out of that racket - so what gives, you some sort of fabled con artist who's got contacts eh?

Arty and sophisticated is all very well, but I pity anyone who doesn't have at least the smallest place in their heart for a gigantic monkey smashing seven shades of shit out of anything it can reach. Especially if there are also dinosaurs.
Have to agree with that, Jackson has earned the right to do his own thing and yes I'm sure he'll bring his own parts to add to the whole and it will be an action packed simian extravaganza!
My earlier comments probably sound a bit up my own arse, I didn't mean to try and analyse it too much, it's just that I have a huge amount of fondness for the original, I can remember having to really plead to be allowed to stay up and watch it when I was about 5 or 6 I guess (I can still remember my Mum saying to my Dad that it was past my bedtime and "it'll give him nightmares"). Anyway got my way and sat there cross legged in front of the TV mesmerised (this would be about 1973 or 74), I can also remember being gutted when they killed him. If Jackson can bring that sort of feeling to a new generation while entertaining us older degenerates, then there ain't nowt wrong with that.
The best thing though was the next day at school I became Mr. Cool for one day thanks to being able to talk about that gigantic monkey smashing seven shades of shit out of everything.

Thanks everyone, James' idea got me thinking and I may have found a solution without the crazy money barrier, (no buttons though sorry, Keeyah), I'll let you know in about 7 days whether I've been ripped off, or become the envy of the living world.

It is indeed a very potent image but look at the source material it's all fucking there for them!
The new tag line is good but I fear that the bottom line should probably read "An uncrompromising vision of the future originally from Alan Moore, now compromised by the creators of the matrix trilogy".
If it isn't as fucked as previous comments suggest then I guess I'll be eating humble pie after that well reasoned thought.... oh well here's hoping I need a double portion.

It looks good but then again most of the big budget effect movies look good in trailers and publicity material. It seems from the brief glimpse as if it will be fairly true to the original, great as a homage but for myself the first one was not only a fantastic monster flick but also a contemporary critique on mans' greed and arrogance, leading to the inevitable destruction of the balance of nature.
I'm not sure that they could have remade this in a contemporary setting, the 76 one tried and failed really, so I'm not knocking Jackson for doing it by the numbers as the original plot really set Kong apart from all the imitations and such a bleak and depressing ending of natural innocence being destroyed cannot really be topped but I just wonder if there was a way of bringing it up to date and showing that we as a race don't really change our spots. I guess that would just be a different film altogether though.

Yeah, and total thermonuclear war would happen every time the clock reached 12 o'clock.Couldn't you get a custom one made with the smiley and blood spatter on the face and ordinary hands to tell the time? It would probably cost you crazy money, though.
I was thinking I might try and get a cheap one and paint it up myself using enamels (I painted badges and tobacco tins with the logo in my youth) but I'll need to find one which is easy to take the plastic face cover off, hmmm worth a shot maybe... 16 broken watches later...
