  1. Oi!

Avant wrote me to ask if I had been hitched, and I let him know that that is a filthy rumor that's being spread by some ne're-do-wells and a couple of scoundrels. Then, I said, "Hey...i should go back to the message board, now that i have a steady internet connection and a computer that works!"

So, Hi. Did I miss anything?

  2. 'Frost/Nixon' - I can kind of see all of the 'glorified TV movie' comments for this 'un but I wish I would have seen this at the cinema rather than on DVD. But would a TV budget have ever got such an amazing cast and production? Frank Langella blew me away (especially in comparison to wobbly rubber nose of Watchmen's Nixon ;) ). Nice unintrusive but dramatic music too.

    8/10

I agree. I saw it at our second-run theater, and it was better than I had expected. As in, I don't need to go see a movie to know that Nixon was a bad man, but this movie actually made me sympathetic for him.

  3. Not that anyone cares, but I ordered the John Vanderslice/The Mountain Goats 12" Vinyl EP Moon Colony Bloodbath, of which only 1000 exist, and I was sent the special green vinyl edition, of which only 200 exist. The green ones were randomly put into the orders.

    Well, I'm happy.

  4. Christian,

Sorry to hear about your relationship problems. Any chance of this blowing over?

Oh, and I disagree with the Chief. This is a terrible time to take up drinking.

If you need to talk about anything, you have my number (I think).

  5. I've just begun the first mini-series, so I'm sure the best is just beginning, but the DC Comics Presents story where he teams up with Superman (sort of) against Kobra was crazy.

    I've got that issue!

  6. OK...I'm going to get a lot of shit for this, but I loved Phonogram 2, issue 2. This story arc, "The Singles Club," has 6 stand alone issues that take place in the same place at the same time, and when taken together have that whole "Different experiences of the same events = different stories" thing. Anyway, I reccomend this series, even if you hates "Rue Brittania".

    Commence beating in 3...2...1...

  7. Hell freezes over!

After all this time, the culmination will be an anti-climax.

Christian is finally revealed to the StH world.

Although, trying to figure out how to upload a picture on to this site may be the real struggle.

    CHRISTIAN!!!

That's all I have to say about that.

  8. Two things:

    1) I won third place in the Wayne College Regional Writing Awards for my short story "Wrapped up in Books." It can be found HERE!

    2) I finally got to see my favorite band, The Mountain Goats, AND I got to meet John Darnielle, who is, essentially, the Mountain Goats. It's on my blog, somewhere. Click my sig and look around for pics from the show. We were right up against the stage...

  9. what would he know, eh? Tragic.

Oh and while we're on the subject - I dislike greatly anyone who thinks that Darwin was talking bollocks and the world is only like 2000 years old or something. Idiots.

    Yeah. It's 6000 years old, not 2000!

    :P

  10. Quoted from a facebook conversation with a friend of mine, after my friend implied that Ellis whines on Bad Signal because he can't get any from some girl on a website:

    Jaynova:

    Dear Warren:

The Suicide Girls will not fuck you. You can look at their titties and their shaven, pierced va-jay-jays if you want, but you get none.

    Sincerely,

a dude that is STILL waiting for another issue of Newuniversal.

  11. I don't think I've ever met a Wiccan who didn't believe that, Christian, but I'm certainly not giving any headroom to daft notions like that myself. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

(Ericson does, sadly take the notion seriously for his book, though. This is a pity as most of the other stuff he's come out with so far that's historically provable -and that I've actually heard of- seems to be on the level. He's very good on Crowley's history, for example.)

As a former Wiccan, I must say that I never bought into the idea that Gardner was part of a continuity that has survived since the ancient times. I also never bought into the idea that the "pagan" world was a matriarchial utopia that the cruel, patriarch Christians destroyed. In fact, the reason I no longer consider myself Wiccan is that I got tired of associating with those asshats (no offence to any asshats on this message board!). I now call myself a non-traditional, semi-practicing neo-pagan.

  12. Let's see...

Finished The Stand. It got MUCH better after 150 pages, and I actually cared about all the characters, even the bad guys!

Finished Master of Reality by John Darnielle. This is one of those 33 1/3 books, about the Black Sabbath album. Good read, from the point of view of a 15 year old who is sent to the psych ward for threatening to kill himself, then the same lad 10 years later. Nice and short.

Finished Nine Stories bu J. D. Salinger. I loved it, especially "A Perfect Day for Banannafish," "To Esme, With Love and Squalor," and whatever the one with the girl trying to get money she was owed was called. 'Teddy" was interesting, too.

Currently reading Raise High the Roof Beams, Carpenters and Seymour, and Introduction by Salinger.

And I did a lot of the reading during NaNoWriMo!

  13. I just saw Murder By Death last night, and they were awesome. They kind of sound like Nick Cave, but not quite as dark. Kind of like a band who wants to make rock music and loves spaghetti westerns. They have songs about revenge, death, pirates, and zombies.

    Here you go:

"Until Morale Improves, The Beatings Will Continue"

    "Sometimes the Line Walks You"

    "Brother"

"Killbot 2000" (This is the one about the zombies!)
