  1. My computer died back in early July, so I've been stuck trying to use a kindle(which sucks dick). On a positive note I'll be able to build a new one that can game really well in November. I'll have to use the college computers to do the online classes.

I'll also be taking piano lessons in September as well.

  2. Thinking back on it.

I really liked how they portrayed The Punisher, even during the court room stuff. Also, they pretty much showed that Frank figured out that Matt was Daredevil during the trial.

But, I was kind of annoyed with how long it

Karen to figure out that Matt was Daredevil. I thought, they were going in the direction of her trying to get Matt to say it. With the "You can tell me, anything. When you're ready." line, but then they quickly ignored that and made her stupid again.

  3. Jon Berthnal mentioned that in first two episode we likely won't like him. He's going to be extremely fucked up and most of his action's will seem pretty terrible to people who don't know his history. But, as it goes on we will likely start to like him and understand his point of view.

From what I've seen is that Frank is going to appear fucked up and sadistic on the outside, while actually doing things for a noble cause. Elektra will seem like a charming "likeable" character, but will actually be doing things that are pretty evil.

  4. The main problem is trying to fit the second-most powerful being in the universe into a whodunnit cop show. They can really only do that by completely nerfing the character, which in turn makes it quite unbelievable that the can actually be the devil. If you're going to have a near-omnipotent character in a series, the challenges and problems he faces needs to be on that level too. Which is why the whole idea is pretty stupid.

Well, supposedly there is a mystery at why the lady cop is immune to his charms and they seem to be heading in the direction that he is becoming mortal the more time he spends with her. Granted, I still say the concept of The Devil not hiding the fact that he's The Devil is a bit funny. Because, usually they would go in the reverse route and have him constantly trying to hide the fact that he's Lucifer. But we'll see how they go with the story.

If they tried to do it like the Comic, it would be impossible unless it was an animated series. Because in order to even get close to it, they need to have all of the cosmic other worldly stuff in it.

  5. It annoys me that he's really not very smart.

They seem to be playing up the arrogant and hedonistic part of the character.. Which is odd, because Lucifer in Mike Carey's run wasn't into partying and having orgies. He was a bit arrogant, but then that's expected when you are as smart as he is. I might continue to watch the series to see where they go with it. But if they continue down the route I see them going, I'll probably drop it.

  6. I'm looking forward to The Division, quite a few new gameplay videos out the last week and it looks very good.

Haven't seen any of those videos yet but the chat on this week's VideogamerUK podcast did spark my interest, sounds like it's going quite heavy on the RPG elements.

I've read that the game suffers from trying to give people too much open space, but doesn't offer anything to do. Much like how The Witcher 3 had a shit ton to do, but also had a compelling story, characters, and events that made you want to continue playing the game again till the end. I've heard that Mad Max was just bland and didn't offer anything of interest to people.

Absolutely, having to repeat the same three or four tasks 10-30 times each - with a handful of story missions sprinkled on top - is a recipe for boredom. I'm actually quite annoyed with myself for having put so much time into it.

I heard a lot of people were also pissed off because you HAD to do the side quests in order to upgrade your car for the final battle. Which is stupid, because side quests aren't meant to be forced on you, they are meant as a pleasant distraction from the main story and don't have any impact on what goes on.

  7. I still feel like the Mad Max's game defining feature is ennui.

Nailed It, I'm a little ways into the third map and I'm fucking sick of it - might just try to power through and finish the story.

  8. Right, I didn't know that. I'd always assumed that if there was some sort of German state funding, it'd go into half decent films, rather than the sort of bilge Bolle churns out.

That is a lighter note, but also a bit depressing: you'd think Don Bluthe wouldn't have to resort to crowdfunding to make films. Still, nobody else is better qualified to make Dragon's Lair cartoon, and it has to be a lot more fun than the game was. ;)

Dragons Lair was damn near impossible to beat, and I think that was because it wasn't designed by somebody who played video games at the time. I saw an interview where Don Bluthe mentioned that the person who came to him with the idea, basically let him run wild with it. And you can specially see this with the sequel.

  9. Yeah, and he's also pissed because Germany no longer as the tax loophole that was allowing him to constantly make movies.

What, a tax shelter thing like the Canadian arrangement that funded most of David Cronenberg's early career?

There used to be a German tax Loophole that allowed him to film all his movies over there, and even if they bombed and didn't make much or anything in the box office. He would still get a ton of money back. Once they Hans Grubered the Loophole, he had to find some other way to make money for his films. And because most movie studios don't want to fund somebody who's pretty much given them shitty films over the years. He's essentially screwed, granted it's own damn fault and his tantrum pretty much sealed his fate.

On a lighter note: Don Bluthe (Land Before Time, Secret of NIMH, Fifel Goes West, etc) got enough funding to make a animated film based on Dragons Lair.

  10. Anybody else would have been smug it had taken people a decade to notice...

Yeah, and he's also pissed because Germany no longer as the tax loophole that was allowing him to constantly make movies.

Now, if we could only get that to happen to Adam Sandler, the world would be a better place.

  11. Bed House and BroomSticks. Classic horror movie that will cause you to scream in utter terror and cry yourself to sleep while repeating "It's only a movie. It's only a movie! It's only a movie!"

[ Spoiler : Specially the part where the pair of Knights armor constantly kicks a dude in the ass.

    It had no torso! ]

  12. Luthor is awful.

So. Doomsday then? I sort of feel like a mutated Krypton should be Bizarro. I felt that way since Superman Returns, that when Luthor stabbed Kel El with the Kryptonite, that he should have tried to genetically create his own Superman, which would fail miserably and become Bizarro.

And is that a Robin suit that's been spray painted on?

Really not expecting much from this flick but it looks alright, I suppose.

Bizarro would make more sense with the dream sequence and with Luthor using him to tarnish Superman's image.

  13. You have several good points, Christian. I'll leave the whole gun database debate aside, because that's basically a political real-world debate, but you list several good reasons which might be used to justify being opposed to some sort of governmental oversight over superheroes. If they construct that in a clever way in the movie, then yes, it would be possible to have Captain America come out as the hero in the film. But so far, all we get is "...but he's my FRIEND". Which is just a piss-poor argument. Like it or not, Bucky has committed absolutely atrocious acts, which should be dealt with somehow.

That's probably the main reason why SHIELD is after him. Steve understands that he was brain washed and mind controlled, so he didn't really have a choice in the matter. Plus, they were/are best friends. So, if your best friend went missing for decades, and then returned brain washed and mind controlled into doing those things. You'd likely be less judgmental than everybody else calling for his head.

  14. Because people like Carey's version, and it's at least tangentially linked to the Sandman, which still seems to be inviolate and tamperproof.

Then why not just reprint it. Problem solved.

  15. That's not happening anywhere else at DC?

It happens a lot with them, and I would guess that the timing of this comic isn't just a coincidence either. But who knows, the TV show COULD be decent and last awhile. (Though I doubt it, because we already have way too many Cop shows with a super genius/consultant. Castle, Limitless, Elementary, etc.)

I do find it odd that they are incorporating a few small details from Mike Carey's run. If they wanted to reboot the comic, why not just create something completely different and new?
