Read through all of Kirkman's Invincible over the Christmas break and had a good time doing so, a pretty wild superhero ride.
-
'Inconsequential' really is a good word for it.
-
I meant to mention that, yes!
"I'm a nasty piece of work, chief. Ask anybody."
Has a Chas called Goz, too!
-
Looks like a really old-school fantasy series!

Watching the brilliant Lennie James as Nelly in the grim UK TV drama Save Me and he's basically playing John Constantine without the magic.
The character's a manipulative, charismatic bastard of a man who leaves human wreckage in his wake as he strives for what he thinks is right. Even has a ragtag mob of mates down the pub whose lives are all made worse by knowing him but still love him all the same.

I can see Cowboy Lou moseying through the wild west, despatching fools with his trusty six shooters.

Only from my subconscious.

Currently playing Cyberpunk 2077 on the Personal Computer. A hugely anticipated title, it's launched to good but not great reviews due to numerous bugs and poor visuals on last-gen consoles.
Have to say I'm really enjoying it, playing a decker type character and delighting in burning people alive via their cyberware and sneaking up on fools to snap their necks. Depending on how you feel the story is either classic or cliché, I'd lean towards the former myself. -
This will be my first Christmas in forty six (Christ!) that I won't be spending in the family home with my folks due to the 'rona.
Does anyone know how to cook a turkey ? -
I don't read a lot of new comics so Hellblazer wins by both default and by virtue of being really bloody good!
I'm reading, and enjoying, both Immortal Hulk and Daredevil but as with Grip I'm reading them in trade so don't think I've hit 2020 with either yet. -
Wonder what Mike Carey's up to these days - haven't read any of his more recent prose books but the film adaptation of The Girl With All The Gifts was ace.
Looks like he might have moved away from comics a little.
-
Yeah, my understanding was that Carey's run on X-Men was a huge success - at least critically though Poet's point might be that that was down to Mike changing his writing style to suit the circumstances though I find that quite hard to believe!
Might be worth noting that Liefeld's had a few pops at the new X stuff too, basically he seems to hate it when others get praise for using some of the concepts he came up with. Especially if they flesh them out to the point of being near unrecognisable from their original incarnations.
And to bring it all back together, I think Milligan's doing an X-Statix project for the current X-line but it got a little delayed due to Covid. -
And Milligan's X-Statix was Fan-Dabi-Dozi!
-
Daddy doesn't love mommy anymore
-
Yeah, the unfortunate reality is that Covid probably got our boy John - hopefully we'll see this team back on the title when things get back to a little more normal though it wouldn't surprise me if they all move on to bigger and better things. The bastards.

Glad Si's landed on his feet, that has to be seen as an upward move.
Campbell has to be destined for greater things too, guy's a fantastic artist and I'm eager to see where he ends up next. -
Absolutely, take a few months off and have the same team come back with a new #1 continuing the story.
Or let them do an OGN once a year.- 1

That was bloody good, proper Hellblazer through and through, criminal that we only got the 12 issues of this.

JOHN CONSTANTINE: HELLBLAZER #12
Written By : Simon Spurrier
Art By : Aaron Campbell
Cover By : John Paul LeonJohn Constantine faces his final reckoning with the older version of himself who’s been seeding magical chaos all around England, while the lives of all his friends hang in the balance…and that is not a good situation for John Constantine’s friends. Can the evil in John’s heart ever be contained? Or will it reach out and destroy the one life he would give anything not to corrupt?

As I am now old and part of the nostalgia audience I would like to reverse my previous stance of sneering at pandering to same and fully embrace it. Jamie Delano's Hellblazer #41, when ?
-
Nice to have you drop by, Christian!
After a little break I'm now back to having some reading time so hoping I'll be able to finish out the Sigmar omnibus. It's juvenile fiction so I've set the bar at the appropriate level (that sounds snobby but I love this stuff!) but even still
Sigmar killing a necromancer, taking his crown and then suddenly acting all evil
is maybe a little too by-the-numbers. That said, the baddies are proper Chaos types so enjoying that.
