  1. I used to be well into the Cramps along with Thee Milkshakes/ Headcoats / Headcoatees and Horton Heat.

Seen them quite a few times but one gig that stands out was at the Town and Country in London (the Stay Sick tour I think) when they had an (excellent) Elvis Impersonator as support whose first words on stage were "I finally got that date with the Cramps".

I think 'Smell of Female" or "Psychedelic Jungle" are my favourite recordings.

The Cramps pissed on most of the other psychobilly groups.

Theres an American band called the Gore Gore Girls knocking around at the moment that seem to be in the Cramps / Sleater Kinney mould.

  2. Law has been down as one of the possibles for a while now but any suggestion that he has the gig is just hype (I've got this from a mate on the project).

As I don't think he's had to really act since 'Ripley' (and the best film he's been in recently is 'Lemony Snicket') unless theres some heavy American money pushing he's not a contender (too pretty, only in because he at one time had a similar haircut)

  3. I hated the art at first (over the past few issues I've only looked forward to the covers) but after a couple of reads its really grown on me. The panel where Chas first hits Renne reminds me of Rian Hughes work on 'Dare'. Of course Bradstreet is still coming up with the goods. Nice issue.

  4. There was long a school of thought, that Maori people were Vikings that had got lost.   I kid you not. You won't have known this, but in the NORTH of NZ, there were often children born that had red curly hair

Any red hair in Maori can probably be credited to white european settlers fucking the natives whenever possible from first contact in the Cook Islands onwards. Actually if you think that Vikings fucked as much of Europe as they could there is a very small strand of truth in the rumour, of course that makes some Maoris part Roman too

Just wrong sickboy. Because I wasn't talking after Europeans came here. We had our own history, thank you. Maori tradition carried far more information down than pleased the priests and Renassiance men of the 1800s'. Long before Europeans knew about the Pacific, we had highly detailed maps*, and directions, and the redheaded Maori had nothing to do with Vikings OR Dutchmen.

    * Interesting, the maps could be made by verbal plans, and just LOOKED like sticks woven together with flax. it was all in how you held your tongue as you used them.

I think when my Maori uncle told me that, it was in jest, and taken as such.

  6. I've spent the day stomping up and down Brighton beach and drinking in many of its fine pubs because I'm waiting for my Mac to come back from the fixers. The Apple Mac is built for technological idiots like me who want to use computers but know nothing about them.

This is the first bit of free time I've had in a month to post on this site due to work so Im at least thankful about that.

  7. The Pixies - Trompe le Monde: I listened to it every day for about 3 months. A perfect swansong for a great band. "Planet of Sound" still gets me all riled up and swingin'.

The Smiths - Louder than Bombs: It was sort of a part "greatest B-sides/rerecorded Peel sessions/a cover and a couple of new singles" sort of "anything goes" release that I loved and loved and loved. "Shoplifters of the World Unite and Take Over"...brilliance! I saw Morrissey last Novemeber and of the 5 Smiths songs he played, that was one. I almost died.

I remember being the only one defending 'Trompe Le Monde' in a long winded musical posting last year so you've made my day.

Saw Moz too (saw the Smiths as well when I was 15) who also holds fuck all interest for the majority of the hard bitten elite here, to quote The Cramps "You've Got Good Taste".
