  1. So, a man who catches the clap from a woman and then has sex with that woman's sister is committing incest ?

But I'm not aware of it being "all cleared up" merely by it being agreed here.

    That would be crazy !

  2. While I think it is reasonable to judge individual issues even if there is a long over-arcing story going on, many of the criticisms of last issue (e.g. "nothing happened") can be put down to the fact that it was part one of a six parter.

As I'd said to James the other week, I really liked this issue.

There are some intriguing questions posed:

    who will Angie call?

what is the connection between Nergal, Rosacarnis & The First?

how will the three children react to finding out?

    did Demon Constantine die ?

I didn't read that last page as saying Nergal and The First are related, but perhaps Nergal and Constantine are. Maybe that's what one of Ghant's voices meant when they said "incest"?

And I have never really liked the concept of Demon Constantine for the reasons he states in this issue. It's been made clear to John before that if you get rid of the bits of your self that you don't like there are problems of "incompleteness" to deal with. But it also shrugs off responsibility for your past actions.

The Demon Constantine may have been a good character but his underlying origin is what irks me.

But in this issue, all of my thoughts and questions are well-handled by Mr Carey and Sr Manco.

  3. He said: “If anyone is not going to come to our party – and it’s going to be one hell of a party – they can fuck right off.”

Oh fuck off yourself, Sanctimonious Arsehole.

I am sure I can find something else to be doing that day, just like I did twenty years ago. Just because there's a good cause going on doesn't give him the right to claim his "party" is the only one in town. And despite it being a fair list for the Hyde Park gig, he should keep his bile for those who deserve it.

  4. Fair enough, I'll clarify in simpler language - I was annoyed about the Mamtor release because they told me nothing concrete about the CONTENT of Event Horizon.

It's no skin off my arse man, I spend far too much on (what I consider to be) quality comics already.

Sorry that I am not going to let you and Matt get away with this.

At no point did I try and tell you the panel was any good - as Matt said I was not there. However, what I am telling you is "it's a shame that you did not go and look at the actual book and talk to the creators". Now I am sorry if that threatens the comic/internet/fanboy superiority complex that we all have, it was never meant to.

The fact is that the comic is fun.

The table was a better place to find out.

And if Marvel and DC can do crap panels, when they can be arsed to turn up (and they can), I am sure that a FREE panel by a new company at an event you've paid £5 to take part in can be forgiven.

Especially when a friend tells you that their book was good.

But no, you want to argue with something I did not say, in a manner I did not introduce into the conversation ("bollocks") whereas I am just being positive in saying THE fucking COMIC is GOOD.

Right, now you can get back to admiring James.

He can argue better than anyone else on here anyway.

And Italian Art Chicks love him.

  5. I do like that pic of - is it Tom? - with the wings. Gettin' a wee bit clever there, aren't you Ade?

I took an even better one after they lit it up, and another that gave Tom a halo. But then my camera vanished. :(

Ladies ! See if you can spot James's camera !

  6. John, it is not bollocks. If you prefer to have people bombard you with images and glib patter about their comic then that is entirely your call.

"I don't care what the books like because they mumbled at a free panel."

God forbid that you'd ever gone to the Constanteen press launch with that attitude.

But as the fucking comic was available to browse for no cost, and to own for a tenner, all I am saying is that you missed out. They may well have some responsibility in that, but the above post almost makes it seem that you value hype over content.

I know that is not you, and all I am pointing out to you is that it is a shame you were put off by the fact that they are artists not ad men. Because it's a good fun book with some lovely art. (And a very funny Chris Weston story.)

Incidentally, Com X had a lovely presentation when they were in the same position.

  7. and that lost them a sale

Likewise, I couldn't tell you the name of one of the strips in the anthology.

Liam Sharp started a thread on Millarworld (where he's not a moderator), so I posted a polite response suggeting that the launch was a bit haphazard.

It's a shame that you were put off by their lack of corporate gloss when five minutes talking to them at their table would have had the complete opposite effect and probably got you some nice sketches.

I was expecting all painterly goth stuff and there's some funny stuff too.

  8. (No, I was absolutely certain we were going to meet you, as long as you had not ended up EATING in the Beefeater. You forget, by that time I had only had one pint ... whereas you were in a loud pub.)

But enough of that, I totally forgot to talk to that local comic shop guys of yours, so If we could liaise on that too, I'll send you a bunch of copies.

So the Mam Tor panel disappointed ? That's a shame, but compensated by their table and their comic. And I'd always been a bit wary of Liam Sharp (qv James & Bryan Talbot) but what a nice bloke he is. With the right support they could be a UK version of Heavy Metal.

  9. What Mister Brown neglected to mention about his late arrival for curry is that he sounded very settled when I'd given him a call 40 minutes before and left the distinct impression that he wouldn't be able to make it.

My side of the conversation went "I'm here with Joel and Tim, waiting for Leila, we'll see you there at eight thirty, rather than come to the Beefeater, have another pint and delay the meal even later".

To be fair to Leah, "your dad is ace isn't he?" must be a bit daunting to hear.

And she and John handled it well with "He's just this guy, you know? But YEAH he IS really weird."

The people who do Powerpoint need to add a sidebar thumbnail option or something.

  10. The Healing Power of Garth Ennis.

A tale of James and Ade.

(Version 2 lovingly re-tooled by JF Wilkinson)

Individual999991: Oh, and thanks for sorting out that picture of death! You're an absolute star

Adeheathen: did she do you a new one ?

    Individual999991: Yes! It's awesome

Adeheathen: I said she should draw you instead of Batman and charge you at least twenty quid

Individual999991: And her (friend? Mother?) gave me a big green kitten t-shirt that was very fetching but a bit big

Adeheathen: there was some sort of Italian goth cult going around. did you check her website? lovely stuff

Individual999991: And she wasn't remotely gothy!

    Individual999991: Not yet

Individual999991: In fact, I'll do that now

Individual999991: One day Micia open her eyes and sees the world.

    But there is something strange.

She knows that she must to do Something.

    Something really important.

Maybe the most important thing of her life.

    Individual999991: God, it's too cute.

Individual999991: I can't stand it. I'll need to read some Preacher until my my masculinity comes back

Adeheathen: not the words you fool !

Adeheathen: OH MY GOD ... IT'S TOO LATE !

    Individual999991: Hehe too cute!!! =^_^=

    Individual999991: Hnngngn.

Adeheathen: Do you like flower arranging ?

Individual999991: No, it's okay. Preacher has brought me back

Individual999991: Although I now feel the urge to write Jesse/Cassidy slashfic

Adeheathen: I have to post this IM transcript to the STH forum

    Adeheathen: it's the law

  11. Bryan Talbot ?

    He's a lovely bloke.

    You're probably afraid cos he's a Lancashireman.

    Yes. "Scans later".

    Did - you - check - your - copy - of - Strangehaven ?

And everyone who got a copy of J1P3 liked it.

It's the others I am annoyed with.

  12. Okay, no more "jokes" about Ade having other friends :-P

Especially as there was no space for me at the curry table !

(That feather cut dude was the MR T writer ???)

    Here's some flashback memories.

    24 boxes of Just 1 Page !!!

(18 left is not as good as 2004 by a long way)

And the fucking thing is fucking gorgeous !

    The Mam Tor table ruled.

Dave Kendall who did the Batman & Joker piece for us has some gorgeous art, watch his space!

    My co-table folks were booming.

Commercial Suicide (incl. a story by A Brown) is sicker than a dog on grass.

Alex's "Smoke" and "Defective Comics" suggest the future is bright for Miss De Campi.

The sketch that James got from Bryan Talbot - Ant Man versus Hammer-Stein is cool. My idea to get Hunt Emerson to draw Firkin fighting Gilbert Shelton's Fat Freddy's Cat is probably the one that I really don't want to auction !

AND I got to speak with Gilbert Shelton !

The infamous Hellblazer interview and slide show went well until Joel mixed up Gemma with the loves and once again the SLAG joke was lost.

Hypotheticals was a blast as ever - who knew americans were so obsessed with bottoms ? Oeming and Casey really are fun guys (geddit?)

The STH curry was strange, because the waiter thought he was funny.

I had a good long chat with Tim and Leila before going to sleep and missing the "High Drama" caused by Craig McGill.

I made some new friends. Hello Graeme.

James, have you checked inside your copy of Strangehaven yet ?

I spent my usual LOADS at Chris Staros's Top Shelf table.

I recommend "Van Helsing's Night Off" verily.

And "Owly" looks cuter than a button.

The Alan Moore panel went even betterly !

The new Albion series makes me happy, Leah and John were ace people,

Dez Vylenz and Drew joined us for a really interesting chat afterwards.

I look forward to seeing that DVD.

BTW, I asked David Lloyd's the "what is your favourite side of Alan Moore's work?" question that Joel failed to put to all of the panel. His answer was "He is a multi-facetted individual", which of course was what Chris Staros said.

    Leah Moore said "Halo Jones".

And because of magic I won a book signed by Alan Moore and Jose Villarubia.

And I stayed up later than ever last night, which was probably a reaction to the question "What am I going to do with them boxes?" (which has just been solved - phew!)

  13. It's about six issues long.

The Peter Gross things have not been accepted by Vertigo so far (but they are determined).

    And re Hellblazer ...

"Chas's lock up meets a terrible end"

It's interesting to note Mike's take on Lucifer being a family story, when in fact his whole arc on Hellbazer is even more so (two boys and a girl, just like Mr Carey).

  14. Please buy my Just 1 Page !

Sales at Bristol were down on last year and only James T Wilkinson's sketch grabbing antics saved the day.

The prices will be updated on the website before the weekend, so buy now to save a quid !

(Scans of James's collection to follow later.)
