  1. And as I was leaving (As a volunteer) today I heard the teacher say to the kids, "As of Monday Miss Simpson will be joining us as a member of staff." And then one of the kids went "YAY!"

    Yay!

There's a saying in Norway: "Kids and drunkards tell the truth."

They're younger kids than I'm used to - ages 9-10 rather than 14-16 and I didn't think I'd like it, tbh when I started as I was so used to the older ones, but they're really lovely and quite affectionate so it's a breath of fresh air at the minute.

  2. Yay!

    i second that notion.

so how does that work with romana? is kindergarden affordable in the uk?

That depends on a lot of things.

Anyone can ask for flexible working hours, obviously lots of employers find ways not to grant it, but as my other half has 3 days a week off he requested that 2 of them be on set days, so he can look after her. He got that at the start of the year. All 3 year olds are entitled to 15 hours free childcare, so she has that, which works out as 3 mornings 8-1 and I will always have weekends and school holidays off. We are moving soon, so I've checked with the new nursery and they provide extra hours at a reasonable rate so we'll put her in for a couple of extra hours to cover me getting back plus some time to do things I can't do with a child around (I.e. Sometimes shop but mainly gym ;-)) this also gives her a bit longer with other kids as we have no kids her age in our social circle or family. We are quite lucky in that living in a shitty town with low wages childcare is relatively inexpensive in comparison to some parts of the country, but what we're looking at in childcare costs is very manageable and I have no complaints. There is also the possibility that if I do get my contract extended, the government wants all parents to have 30 hours of free childcare, so long as both parents (It's slightly different if lone parent) work 16 or more hours and we should qualify for that. I don't know if this will work as there is a huge issue around nurseries providing this and it's basically something that sounded good to get votes but will probably be a massive cock up long term. Who knows? We can afford childcare and she won't be in 8-6 all week so she gets a good mix that will ready her for school and give her dedicated days with dad and mum as well.
