  1. I think it does make some folks nervious to see a cruiser go by at mach-1 with the driver singing along to metallica .

Better than swerving down the highway to Offspring's "D.U.I." which I have done... but fully sober. Whenever I need to move I listen to a mix of high speed music like Lunatic Calm, Crystal Method, some Chemical Brothers, Paul Oakenfold, that whole crowd.

spiderlegs, are you going to Coachella? I know the Cocteau Twins are playing on Saturday. I lean more towards Dead Can Dance and Delerium.

  2. I thought the lesbian bit was an intentional out-of-character comedy moment. I don't read Ennis' other work aside from what he did on Hellblazer but I did follow all his Kev minis on The Authority, more Ennis/Fabry. The humor he writes for Kevin Hawkins and Midnighter matches up to that whole play on sexuality in Son of Man.

  3. I just spent the last thirty minutes yping ll supd lk hs because my keyboard didn't want to cooperate. I took the little sucker apart and vaccuumed it like no tomorrow... potato chip fragments getting the backspace key stuck and the like. That was pretty sick. Word to the wise, always keep your keyboard clean and an airhose nearby.

  4. I'm turning this into ACX's wallpapers thread and choosing to destroy my own bandwidth instead of STH's. So below are thumbnails that will lead you to the wallpapers I've made. The links are all 1024x768 but I have 1280x1024 on my hard drive because that's the res I normally use, so if you want the bigger size just PM me. Please be patient when downloading, I tend to make everything image quality heavy.

EDIT: Wallpaper thumbnails have been re-routed to 1280x1024 res wallpapers. Large files they are.

  5. I'd go with Ewan. He's good-looking without being truly pretty, like Jude is. Plus, Jude seems really upper-crust-like.

I read an argument over Jude Law vs. Colin Farrell for the role of Alexander, something about how if you had to follow Jude Law into battle against the Persians he'd probably be the first to die.

Kiefer Sutherland is a good choice appearance-wise.... he's Canadian-Brit by the way

  6. I'm curious..... why did Gemma follow that punk home anyway after finding what was in his pocket? You think she would have confronted him at the club rather than waiting to go home with him and risk getting "raped and murdered" as she so angrily shouts at John. Kind of stupid to play drunk and see what the guy was up to or was she just looking for a reason to bust his knees?

  7. The way Carey's stories flow into one another precludes any of the "sitting around in a bar thinking about all the shit that's just happened" breathers which Ennis, Jenkins, Ellis and even Delano used to break up the larger arcs. As a result, John bounces from one massive crisis to another, without any chance for him or the reader to think seriously about the consequences of his actions.

Thank god for that. Sitting-around-the-bar-breathers get kind of redundant. I don't know if I want to see John go through a major breakdown... but I feel like Carey's run is building and building and building towards something that so far hasn't "resolved" within 3-4 issues. That makes me want to keep buying his run to see what the guy's about to tear down for old John. I also agree with the lack of character development, but that might be due to how long Hellblazer has been running vs. how much shit John has run into. If he seriously developed over the course of that time I'm not really sure if I'd want to see what he might have turned into. John is the constant in Hellblazer, it'd be a risk in readership if he were to change dramatically over the course of 20 years like a normal human being would. Also... such a change can only be successful if Delano or maybe even Moore continued writing for him 20 years straight.

  8. Hmm... I prefer "Mer de Noms" overall when it comes to APC. I was close to seeing them in concert with Nine Inch Nails many years ago, I really wanted to see Paz Lenchantin performing live.

To keep on topic with Constantine, I found the usage of "Passive" within the movie a little out of place. If it was to represent the music being played in the club... well, I have a hard time imagining demons and vampires getting off to it, and if it was supposed to be some kind of theme for John then it felt a little... melodramatic.
