  1. It's like the old woman from China said on a documentary I watched concerning the advent of market economics so strongly into Chinese society, "God doesn't exist, until you need him to, and then everyone believes in god."

Religion is the opiate of the masses.

9/11, economic woes, unemployment, war in the Middle East....

It would only make sense for more Americans to "rediscover" Christianity right now.

  2. Yeah, the problem is that boys don't need to look for it! Us males can come pretty well anywhere, anytime.

Women faking orgasms don't help anything, I'm sure.

Another problem could be the size of the penis. I've heard that penises over 6 inches long can be quite problematic in giving women orgasms.

  3. Yep. The eternal question that's never been answered.

Christian gets a thread, and look what happens.

    Inca already has a thread.

Rogan's got three threads of his own.

Hell, even anon has his own thread! No one knows who he even is! Sure, he's a nice guy, I've talked to him on the phone and everything....talk about a strange experienece, talking to someone for an hour you don't even know their fucking name.

  4. I'd hit it!

"I think it would be brilliant if boys and girls were taught where the clitoris is. I had no idea where mine was until the year before last. It's just never explained to you. I didn't even think I had one! "

Yeah, you got to be careful with razors down there!

"I think Im a late developer too. I enjoyed sex in my past dont get me wrong.....

but I didnt have an orgasm til I was 30."

Somebody needed to let their fingers do the walking.

  5. Well, here, first of all, you're confusing Marxism and "Communism", which is, in fact, by your definition, a state-owned form of Capitalism, where Communism got stuck in the dictatorship of the proletariat and turned into a totalitarian state, built upon worship of the State and a "cult of personality" (in the case of Stalin).

What you're discussing, I suggest looking to the Paris Commune as the purest example of Marxist Communism. Yes, it was crushed down very early, but I think it gives us the best historical examination.

The Capitalist societies we've seen in reality are tightly controlled to give corporations control, and are about as anti-Adam Smith as one could possibly imagine.

Now, if we're discussing "would art flourish in a Marxian society, where artists are not rewarded with cash for their contributions", how many artists are making any real money at all? Many of the top artists in the world today are "starving artists", who are forced to work other jobs to survive, which obviously takes away time and inhibits extreme creativity. If an artist were allowed to spend all his time writing, drawing, whatever and still survive, wouldn't this actually increase creativity and art? How many artists are in their job purely for money? Surely not the ones that have anything of any value to tell us! Now, I'm not saying that receiving money as a reward for art isn't tempting and rewarding, but how much more rewarding is praise for one's art?

Now, if we're discussing "would art flourish in a society without a State", this is a very tricky subject that I can't honesty answer. Personally, I think art would become very stilted without anything to critique.

  6. Yep, Maddi makes an awesome point!

If the U.S. would realize that Israel is NOT the 51st State, I see things changing very rapidly!

It could only help the U.S.'s reputation in the rest of the world also.

Moving back to Britain, something to take into account is that England is not blameless today. England has long been happy to enjoy the warm glow of past glory by hanging on to America's coat straps, as the Imperial little buddy.

Let's not forget how many American "interventions" around the world were helped by England's support (not that they were the only offenders, mind).

  7. There are many glaring things seen in America by the rest of the world which are unheard of in the (so-called) "First World" today.

"Right now, being visibly, flamboyantly Christian is in fashion,

Being a Christian, or being a rightwing fundamentalist bigot? They aren't synonymous."

Josh is right here. Just look at the example of Pat Robertson, probably the most prominent and visual example of Right-Wing Fundamentalist Bigots today. He's an oddity to the majority of people, not an example. The more wacko and sick Robertson has gotten (making me wonder if he's doing it to get attention or if he may have a degenerative brain condition) the more he's lost followers.

As far as dating services, I think it's just that they're finally taking advantage of the internet. How many dating services, period, have popped up recently? All of a sudden, they're advertising all over network TV!

I think if you look back to the 1980s, you'll see a similar trend to what you're discussing, Selkie.

  8. Except that boat has sailed, as Moore has retired from mainsteam comics.

I'm not sure if the majority of comic readers are following writers. If that were the case, wouldn't Vertigo and Fantagraphics and ABC be bigger sellers than Marvel (unless they are choosing to follow mediocre, uninspired comic writers)? Alan Moore's name doesn't even generate undue interest from the majority of comic readers, unless it's something that everyone raves about endlessly such as "Watchmen".

I believe the majority of comic readers still follow the characters. They love the X-Men and read X-Men books, no matter what junk is put into the series. Sure, I'm sure they jump at the prospect of "hot, alternative comic writer" Grant Morrison writing their X-Men comic, but it's not like they all ran out and bought "Invisibles" and "Filth" because it was Grant Morrison. They just kept reading X-Men as Morrison turned to Austen.

"you *DO* know they'll just dig it out some 20 years after his demise, and try to revamp him? and then we'll dust off the old messageboard, and return here to bitch about it."

Yeah, probably! "Fan favourite writer Daniel Way takes over the "NEW HELLBLAZER!" "John gets super powers!" "Astra returns!" "Kit returns!" "John loses super powers, kill Astra, and loses Kit!"

  9. Yes, he wrote "Vader's Quest".

I think that was all his "Star Wars" work.

"X-Men Unlimited" was a pointless X-Men anthology series. It was originally supposed to be a quarterly giant-sized comic spotlighting a different X-character each month and revealing something major about them (i.e. Mystique is Nightcrawler's mother!), but that quickly grew old for Marvel, so they just made it an anthology comic.

Darko Macan wrote a short story in an issue a few years back about Prof. X. It isn't anything worth buying.

  10. Flint, Michigan is the most awful place to try and find a date.

The people who end up staying in Flint are here for a reason, in that there's some reason they weren't able to get out.

That's what the sane people in Flint all want, to get the hell out of here as soon as possible!

So, what's left are single mothers, drug addicts, whores, mentally unbalanced people, the completely uneducated, or married people who don't have other options now.

  11. There's actually been a bigger deal concerning the Christian Right getting on comic books in Canada than in the U.S.

Of course, this varies from State to State, but it would be a small organized group of people within a neighbourhood when a mother catches little Billy reading a comic book with a naked boob in it.

The U.S. is a surprisingly free country considering the amount of neo-Fascist policy the govt. is always involved with.

Stuff like TV, radio, and books are usually left alone as it's sancrasanct in America that "we have the right to express ourselves in anyway as it long as it distacts us from the what our govt. is involved in"!

Actually, if you look at the reality concerning these misconceptions about the U.S., the govt. can actually tell the BBC that they cannot release information, whereas in America, it is highly illegal for the govt. to tell the media what they can and cannot do (which isn't to say that the President can't buy a few reporters of his own). The real problem in America is corporate power.

Wasn't the last time comic books were a deal for the Right-Wing loonies in America concerning that "Yummy Fur" debacle back in 1988?

Concerning Mojo's talk about the "Red State/Blue State/One Fist/Two Fist" debate, Bush actually only got 9 votes, so you know.....

  12. Look, here's how it is, you see men think about sex all the time. Women think about sex all the time too, UNLESS they have something else to do. That's the difference between men and women.

You see, us men didn't want women not to work because we thought women were worth less than men or anything like that. We just wanted to keep our sex lives alive!

You women took it all wrong and fought to get into the damn workplace. Like that's really what anyone wants to do! Get stuck in some tedious job for 5 days a week, 40 hours a week. God!

All us men wanted was to keep relationships between men and women going!

You see the rise in divorce rate skyrocketing alongside the number of women in the work force? You think that's happenstance? Hell, no! You women aren't putting out for us men like we need it anymore, and so marriages are falling apart.

I warned you all I'd start writing my 10,000 page Manifesto about women, God, and what's wrong with the Liberal world!

  13. "I think they were doing it wrong.

    almost definitely I'd say."

"Wait. Wait. I'm supposed to stick this WHERE?!"

"And really if you think about it. Back in High School girls didnt really care how far you took them. Just has long as you took them. Now it's like women want to take them to the promise land. Tho I seem to recall that back in High school. Most girls were either stuck up or really picky about who they date. But when women get older they seem to shoot alittle less for the "OMG that guy is like totally gorgouse" and more for personality and a steady job."

Wait, aren't you the guy who's never actually talked to a woman?!

"But certainly helps if the woman in question knows herself what makes her orgasm"

Yeah, but sometimes it's hard to find a skunk, an oxygen machine, and an avocado at any time, you know?

"and teenage girls should be masturbating much more than they do in order to discover themselves sexually."

    Yes, on our computer screens!

Kinki-It's not that a 15 year old guy will stick it just anywhere. I mean, it has be cute and moving a little bit, you know?

  14. Not as freaky as I initially hoped, it seems....

    uh, just ignore that.

I read that as ROGAN instead of ROGER at first too.

So, am I the only person who is actually nocturnal on this site?

People seem to go bed late, get little sleep, and suffer from insomnia, but I seem to be the only one who's truly nocturnal.
