  1. Yeah there is a divorce too. No drama, just something that was always going to happen, just happened sooner than planned. Lawyer is just to make sure everything is all above board.

Had a meeting today with my boss to workout coming out logistics. He will be informing the heads of the other departments and then my colleagues in a small meeting. I'm equal parts dreading/looking forward to it. Would be so happy to be "done" with all this shit but I'm quite aware this is it for life and it will always follow me around.

  2. In the life? Don't really have a choice about being visibly out. Haven't really been hassled, but I tend not to go out alone, all my friends have so it's just a matter of time. Mostly seems to be white 15 year old kids egging each other on. The only place I'm not out is work and that'll change soon. Lots of little dumb things to think about that most people don't. Valid ID is a pain right now but I should be able to get my drivers license updated easily enough.

Luckily for me the trans community here is pretty tight knit and supportive. The queer community is generally okay and friendly enough, I'm not a super outgoing person and you get what you put in I guess. I also managed to snag myself the gayest lawyer to process my divorce (With a LGBT discount). The bars are okay, I prefer to go to more generally queer places than absolute gay/lesbian bars.

  3. Oh almost certainly not Jason.

Seventhcircle, I'm really happy that you came to that conclusion on your own. I know not many people actually have to think about things like this so its something of a relief that when people I talk to do think about it, they can conclude with no prompting that something is awful.

My meeting went surprisingly well. The person I met this time was compassionate, understanding, informative and actually helpful. The first time I went there was the exact opposite so I was very relieved.

And then the next day the report came out, as Pål said it was comprehensively good. I admit to having not dug down into the details of it, my Norwegian is only good enough to get through the summary before my brain aneurysms. So the details of changes to the system of care are currently unknown to me, but the main part, the gender change by declaration, is a big fucking deal.

And after that I went and saw Against Me! and drank till the early hours.

  4. Ironically I did not see this thread.

The Norwegian experience is not a good one, however there is a report on changes to the systems coming at the end of this week that is promising a lot.

A lot of the problems with the current system for treatment in Norway come down to the fact that one very small group controls diagnosis and treatment (Rikshospitalet). Their diagnosis process takes a year (before they will consider any kind of treatment), is based on 1970's standards of care and binary only gender identities, a very simplistic "born in the wrong body" description of dysphoria and there is, because of the one very small group, no second opinion.

A major problem with this is that you cannot get your gender marker changed on any official documentation (passport, driver license, bank account info for fucks sake) without confirmation from this group (Rikshospitalet) that you've undergone 100% gender confirmation surgery. Which 1) Not everyone wants. 2) Not everyone gets the diagnosis to receive treatment for. And if you do it privately, they can still decline to "confirm" your gender because they didn't give you the diagnosis in the first place.

Oh well, whatever fuck my life etc. PS Guess where I have the pleasure of going this Thursday.

[edit]Oh and I'm also going to see Against Me! on Friday so that's stereotypical nice.

  6. Haha, yeah I'm still reading it. I used to be online acquaintances with Tom's now ex, she got me into it.

I like that the characters are growing up and are doing stupid teenage stuff, like Jack Hyland's little bumfluff facial hair thing. I'm hoping that Tom doesnt go too wide with the plot lines though, currently we have a lot of split up unresolved things that I'm hoping he'll tie back together over the next few years. The comic deserves success though, there isn't much else that is so tightly plotted and well paced. Barring "The Stone" which was excruciating to read on a 3 day a week schedule.

  7. tumblr is as bad as who you follow basically. I use tumblr to look at pictures of cats doing amusing things. I'm aware there are other aspects of tumblr but unless they involve cats, 70s scifi illustrations or 1920s art then I'm probably unaware of them.

  8. Last year was pretty shitty for me.

I worked intensely at my job that I loved, putting in many hours on a project, having everyone tell me how indispensable I was. Only to be laid off due to what seems like the dumbest numbers game.

But! I got a new job in November that I'll start next Tuesday, tomorrow I'm going to look at a new car and a bunch of other possibly positive things are happening.

2015 could be the best or worst of my life. We'll see.
