  1. I'd say I prefer Stephenson to Gibson, but you're probably right, dogpoet. Stephenson's endings really suck. I still enjoy his books so much that it doesn't affect me as much as it would with books by other writers.

And about the building up to a stupid climax, I felt Idoru was like that too. I really hated that book.

Okay, I admit it, Idoru is the only other book of Gibson's I read other than Neuromancer.

  2. Awww... There's so much sad pet news lately on the forum. It's really depressing.

Congratulations on your anniversary on this forum, Coralys! And while you've met one other person who can recite all the rulers of England since William the Concueror, I still don't know anyone who can, so don't feel redundant here. :D

Thanks, but that guy even goes to my school, so yeah, I'm really useless.

  3. I just realized that today is my first year anniversary on this forum.

Also, remember how I could recite all the kings of England from William the Concqueror to Elizabeth II? Well, I met someone else who can do that. I am now completely redundant.

  4. BUT, if your hair is that dark, there's only so blonde it'll go, you might be better talking to a hairdresser to get an expert opinion before you leap into home bleaching, which to be honest, is a real bloody pain.

Also, the not-always-stellar quality peroxide you can usually get for do-it-yourself home bleaching is likely to turn your hair orange or lemon yellow rather than bleached unless you use more than one batch of it. And more than one batch of peroxide at a time could turn your hair to brittle straw, even with the use of deep conditioners. It happened to a friend of mine who had very dark hair, and decided she wanted to bleach it.

Pooka's advice about consulting a hairdresser is very good. They will know what to do, and can probably recommend products for you to use.

I'm not planning to go blonde, though. I wanted red hair. But I think I'm going to stay with the slightly red-tinted black hair I have now, anyway.

  5. Then, I decided that I also wanted to dye my hair, so I tried to do that, but the results were not quite what I was aiming for.

    How so?

It just looks like it used to. Basically, there was no change.

    Your hair is black, yes?

What colour were you hoping to dye it?

You may need to bleach it first, then dye on top of the bleach job.

This is liable to wreck your hair, especially if you've never treated your hair before (ie permed or coloured it.)

If so, you need a good, deep conditioner for everyday use.

My hair is black, yes. I wanted to dye it red. I used the same kind of product my mom uses to dye her hair, which works perfectly well on her. With me, the hair is still black, but with a slight red tint.

I was thinking of going to buy peroxide tomorrow to do it over. I'm not so sure, now.

  6. My spring break started this weekend, so I'm finally getting some rest. I signed on to way too many things this semester, and I'd been feeling under a lot of pressure recently.

I got my learner's permit yesterday and then caught up with some of my high school friends. Today I visited my high school and then got a haircut. Then, I decided that I also wanted to dye my hair, so I tried to do that, but the results were not quite what I was aiming for.

  7. Actually, there will apparently be six seasons.

    From http://ifmagazine.com/feature.asp?article=1628 :

The idea was always that it was going to be a 44-episode narrative and the halfway point was going to be the escape, which was the end of season one,” Scheuring says. “With success comes questions about season three, so now we’re framing the first two seasons as chapter one of the ‘trilogy’.

With my mom watching all the time, I'm starting to get into the show.

So, who was fooled by Mahone this episode? *raises hand sheepishly*

Also, I was just counting on my fingers how many hostile factions Lincoln and Michael's enemies were divided into, and the answer is something like six or seven.

  8. I think that that question is very much from an American perspective. I'm under the impression, anyway, that it's hard to live in America without being able to drive, but in many parts of the world, not driving or holding a license is quite normal.

Though, you'd think that in John's case, with all the trouble he gets into, he could afford to learn to drive.

And I always interpreted that "homing spell" as a spell that made the car drive itself to the place he wanted it to go.
