  1. Apartment from French and gym, I got 90 and over in everything last term. French really brought down my overall score (because gym doesn't really count).

This term is shaping up to be much more stressful than last. I have about 10 more hours of class every week, plus I'm getting involved in some extra-curricular stuff, and I've started doing some volunteer work. Also, I'm waiting to hear back from the Learning Centre about tutoring some other students.

Looking at the course outlines, it seems as if I'll be having an assignment or two every week.

Plus, my mom is reminding me that I've got to take the SAT Reasoning test in June and that I should devote one hour of studying every day to that. (That's probably not going to happen, though.)

    Ah, college.

  2. I watched The Departed while in China. I enjoyed it very much. I'd seen Infernal Affairs a few years ago, but I liked The Departed much more. I think it was because I could relate to the characters better and I have an easier time understanding Irish gangs in Boston than almost anything in Hong Kong. Ironic, isn't it?

  3. I'm back in Montreal and I've been spending the last two days trying to recover from a horrible journey home while attending school and suffering from jet lag.

And now I'm going to rant at length about the stupid stupid things that happened to me while I was trying to get back here. First, my flight from Shanghai to Chicago was cancelled, so they put me on a flight to Vancouver on Air Canada. Except, they only gave me one hour transit time in Vancouver when everyone knows that Vancouver is the slowest customs point the world. Naturally I missed my connection to Montreal. Which was the last one of the day. That's when they put me on a flight to Toronto. When I finally got to Montreal, it was 1 am, and I had school the next day. Then, I discovered that my luggage was still in Toronto. I don't know how that could be possible, given that the gate I debarked from in Toronto was right next the one the plane to Montreal borded. I could literally have carried my bags from one plane to the other by myself. This is why I didn't fly Air Canada in the first place!

I still don't have my bags.

  4. Still, I bet it's fun. Shanghai is one of the world's biggest cities (if my recollection is correct) so there must be a lot to do there.

It must also be an interesting place to find a Western New Years celebration. 8-)

Guess again! No one seems to care about New Year's Eve. I went shopping with my dad and I actually fell asleep at about 9 pm.

I'm at my grandma's house in Xiamen right now. It's not so cold here.

I lost my glasses in the South China Sea when I was in Hainan last week. I got new ones with thick red frames. I'll post pictures soon.

  5. Hey, it's me! Looks like I am able to post here, but since I'm using s-l-o-w dial-up at my dad's house, and I have absolutely no patience, I probably won't be posting much.

I just want to say, Shanghai in December? Really cold. You may not believe this but I'm freezing my ass off. And I just came here from a place with snow!

  6. I'm going to China tomorrow. I'll try to post, but I don't know if I'll be able to access this site. (Especially after that "Communism Sucks" thread.) Anyway, if I can't, you won't be seeing me around for the next twenty days or so.

By the way, it finally snowed here yesterday.

I'm sorry to hear about your grandpa, Inca.

  7. I finished The System of the World. I'd comment on it, but I really don't know what to say. Let's just say I agree completely with this guy:

Staring at my 11 pounds, 3,775 pages, roughly 2 million words of Stephensonia, I feel the queasiness of a boa constrictor who has rashly swallowed not one, not two, not three, but four water buffalo. This act of digestive hubris has paralyzed me. How is all this to be reduced to manageable size? Where does one begin?

I also feel like Neal Stephenson himself:

I badly wanted to get to the end, but when I did, I was sad it was over.
  8. I'll have to confess, I saw Rent performed by a group of 16 year old catholic school kids, maybe that was it, but I know I disliked the movie really. I mean at the end, when Mimi comes back to life and says "[she] saw Angel, and Dang he looked goood! Hah aha ha ha ah aha!"

I've never hada stronger urge to stuff a cricket bat down a lizard's throat, never.

Yeah, well, I saw it with a bunch of people who seemed to have memorized all the lines and would say them just before the characters on screen would. Including the one you just mentioned. So that lameness was spoiled for me.

  9. I wanted to watch the movie version of Rent when it was released, but somehow, I didn't get a chance to. On monday, our school's LGBT club organized a movie day thing for World AIDS Day, and they were showing it, so I went to watch it, but only caught the last thirty minutes or so. It wasn't a very good viewing experience because:

I went out for a few minutes and missed

    the transvestite dying.

Plus, there were two girls making out with each other in front of me, blocking my view of the screen. Yes, that's right, two college age girls making out with each other.

  10. I found Preacher so overrated. I started reading it thinking it would be the greatest thing ever, but as I progressed through the trades, I became disappointed. The first two trades are really good, though, and I might be interested in this HBO series if they cut out the crappy useless stuff. I really hope they don't try to stretch it to six seasons, because it'll be very little action each season and cancelled, too.

  11. Yesterday was indeed the second slowest day since opening day after the forum moved.

Weekend posting has slowed down a lot recently, but things slowed down since August.

Sorry, I had a three hour standardized exam and some exciting (political) television.
