  1. Batty is Lucifer because he is the most perfect and powerful "child" of his creator, but rejects his creator's plan for himself and his brethren. There are lots of parallels - Lucifer was Captain of the Host, Batty is a military leader of combat robots, to name one.

He is Christ because he sacrifices himself so that Deckard and his "girlfriend" can achieve enlightenment and salvation. He is his creator's son who must die so the replicants (Deckard) can become human - i.e. their "soul" is saved. A good hint here: What does Batty do when he has to "stop dying" for a while? He PUSHES SPIKES THROUGH HIS PALM. Actually, it's a bit too obvious, isn't it. (But hey, I LOVED it)

    Another cosmetic similarity....

Roy comes from off-world, so he either falls to earth, or he voluntarily comes down from the heavens.

  2. Sorry to break this out into its own thread but I figured a "Blade Runner" appreciation thread could make its own way in the world. Sethos was saying in another thread that if you see the director's cut it makes it much more clear, though it's subtle, that Deckard is a replicant, that he has planted memories, and the cops (particularly Edward James Olmos) know it.

I have not seen the director's cut but THAT IS SO FRIGGIN' COOL. It puts all of Deckard's actions in new light, like how is he able to fight these people? Spit teeth? Take tremendous blows from Pris? What are his memories?

Damn, I gotta see this. There was a dream sequence with a unicorn?

Yeah, and he has all those pictures, too.

Blade Runner is awesome. I was an English major, so this next comment is all English majory:

Roy is both a Christ figure and a Lucifer figure. Discuss.

  3. Abhimanyu is from India, but he is currently enjoying (?) a stay in the United States. He loves books, film, and social debate. He is in his early 20's, but is wise beyond his years. His mock indignation at others' posts is often mistaken as sincere. A cool guy, and a great addition to any conversation.

As you can see by his avatar, he has mastered the "Mesmer Stare".
