S okay it was average.i did like the voice acting and that we got the house of mystery and zatanna was hot.also like the implication of ztanna's power...but overall ,meh.not bad,not great either.it felt like justice league dark tho so i guess mission accomplished?

that constantine movie was damn good--but we all know that wasn't john constantine, that was nick necro
this thing with him and the lolipops and all that ...this hurt me :(
at this point they're just trynna bleed money from our boy john in anyway they can because everyone's running outta ideas and since he's relatively obscure along, they can get away with so much shit. The days of Hellblazer is long, long, long gone so I think we need to let it go.
silver lining
If he gets popular enough, somebody may actually make a good as story/movie/animation or whatever about him.The MCU did damn good adaptions of their stuff and some of that stands up to source material.

Th Laughing Magician's Journal is back up and running again.I'll be honest, with Rebirth around the corner ,I was like "let's see what happenes",and was thankful new52 was over. Now I'm mad again so I redid the blog.First 2 entries are up ,you can check here (and in my signature).http://a-laughing-magicians-journal.blogspot.com/
And tell me what you think.
The funny thing with thiis is that there are so many John Constantine incarnations out there that this John is his own John who's aware of the other John's and creative works featuring himself, thus making for some fun meta moments with this and people telling hm he looks like John Constantine...
The fact that there are reboots, retcons and such kinda gave me a had time last time so I'm running with a composite John from my own DC-verse Earth Omega Prime (working on a wiki that is taking far too long--have to dump and rewash).
I also want to delve into the magic elements from the DCU and spend very-very-very limited time with capes .But you'll be hearing from the likes of Raven,Zatanna,Traci Thirteen,The Phantom Stranger,Madame Xanadu, etc. I also am pretty big on Hellblazer references so that's gonna be in there.
Gonna try to actually keep this up this time, and unlike last time I have organized story arcs for it to carry itself,so it'll turn out better. If anyone wants, you can read and review.Any critique will be appreciated--however,be warned,I am not British, not English and beyond some research my experience with England is only knowing one person from the UK who since graduated [from Manchester England] and went back home a few years ago.So I'd appreciate if anyone from across the pond could give me some cultural references or anything off.
Thankyou and enjoy! :)

They're doing it again, the lagging.I'm hoping it's a temporary thing ...but maybe i'm asking for too much
-
Well gotdamn--that came from the cut...
he will be missed---pray his soul rests in peace
-
Pacing is good, things are happening,I actually give a shit.I think maybe things are picking up now--I'll stay along for the ride I think. And it did it's job of making me wanna read the next issue
-
I congratulate them. The second issue successfully hooked my interest. Characterization was just enough, I was thoroughly amused and surprise, surprise, the plot actually went somewhere.I liked that there were old familiar faces, familiar scenarios ,and I'm interested in the events coming forth. (no spoilers). There was nothing in this story that made mecringe,so I can safely say I'll stick around for a bit to see where this goes.I have a spark of hope.
Also,I'm glad they didn't butcher john's characterization--let's see what happens.
-
The Azarello run was memorable because of how cringe worthy it was--the biggest put off was the dog thing, the butchering kids thing ,john's characterization and the sheer amount of Narm of it all--plus the art in the prison run made me ask "why the fuck am I reading this?"
so in light of this...why are we focusing on "the sweet musk of his balls"...hardly relevant
I think it could be re-written and done well-- saying this because I just started 100 bullets and it's definitely my cup of tea...for now
also, john was always a cock-sucker,but the mostly heterosexually male readership casually phased it out ..."no-homo" before no-homo was a thing.I mean c'mon het guys, are you really gonna admit to reading about a queer dude?
as for john coming back to life after death...?
I guess it did it's job
-
High concept, then.
more like high bullshit
I'm pissed because if the series was like the preview with the blue haired chick that made clothes out of demon skin,I'd love it.That preview was better than that whole series and this rebirth thing.I swear this on my grave.I thought I was coming into something darkly beautiful not...whatever that was...
-
the thing is this...the premise is a good way to make the super hero genre more modern, liked that element...but yeah,it'skinda cheese.
Marvel has done so much better with their heroes on screen and I stick with this
-
on a serious note, like that our boyJohn is getting the exposure, but the truth is,he's now losing aspects of himself and any and every incarnation will be a shadow of what john was in Hellblazer.Maybe people will wonder back and read Hellblazer idk. But I think it's time to lay it to rest :(
-
john does eat lollipops tho :D
The legendary meat lollipop?
they said it..don't shoot the messenger now
-
if they can get more of this
[sarcasm]
i do think we can finally make the call now...

I don't know what's more shocking from that article: that John's going to be a kid-aimed cartoon or that DC apparently wanted the production to include "Space Cabbie" in the series.
I guess that John'll probably eat a lot of lollipops instead of smoke, given the intended audience.
john does eat lollipops tho :D

this is whyi tend to read graphic novels--i'm a fan of elseworlds tales...a good deal of it is better than the source material
-
i hope this title will finally remove the status quo that keeps John from progressing as a character. the whole thing about aging in real time doesn't seem so special because i felt like nothing much has changed for john
that may be part of it.there's certain mistakes you stop making at 40,50,and 60--it started to stagnant after a while.I think the later authors forgot to age him mentally and emotionally, just stuck on more wrinkles

i agree,i always felt delano's john was the definitive john constantine.ennis was good and that monster that azarello sent us and the fool miligan wrote. i don't think peopleare really taking delano's john into consideration
-
I LOVE this show andIlove tulip,YES. I find jesse interesting if anything .but then again,i have NOT read much of the comic so maybe that's what it is.thenagain,i just saw 3 episodes--
i also learned form hellblazer to STOP comparing the shows to comics.appreciate it for it's quirks

The problem with these 'rebirths' is that John aged in real time during the original run. The current writers are cherry-picking his history but even they have to realize there's no way a 30-something year old man was in a punk band in the late 70's. My feelings thus far is that these creative vasectomies has severely undercut his gravitas and made him a much less interesting character. This was why Milligan pissed me off so much - he wiped his ass with John's past rather than treating it like the well-earned weight he'd been carrying all those years.
But I want him back, dammit! So how to do it? Well, maybe Hell needs him alive and operating and restores him to his middle-aged self while the rest of the Hellblazer universe has aged around him. It's ridiculous but as long as the writer stuck true to the characters (Old Chas reacting to a young John) (MILF Kit?) it could be interesting. And maybe enough to drive John batshit crazy again! Of course, that would involve taking the character into directions DC would poo-poo before it could ever see the light of day.
Regardless, I don't know how any of these rebirths are going to amount to anything more than elevator music without giving him the weight of his years (a.k.a. his balls) back.
Ok, open fire.
There are things that can be done to flesh him out--could've been queer goth kid that use to fuck around with creepy shit and his father could've easily thrown him to the streets as a teenager,in which case he fell in with some occultists[i was gothing around when i fell in with some occultists --i wanted to heal my dad of sickness--john could have the story of wanting to speak to his dead mother and wham, here we go--i mean,c'mon,we've seen baby Johnny in tight pants and eyeliner with spike wristbands--plus he likes dark shit ..Goth!John Constantine is NOT a stretch, considering the time period.
I say at 30yrs old now,--10-15 yrs ago is year 2000 and while the goth scene aint what it use to be,even now, you'll find a few goths roaming around so Goth!John anpunk influence could be from a relative with a band called mucous membrane [aunt would be awesome]
the whole thing with Ravenscar could've still happened too. ..but enoughwith my fantasy ramblings--
but the problem is,that these people writing are missing the pointand are just shelling an asshole occultist who fucks people over---i mean john IS an asshole occultist who fucks people over--but it usually isn't his fault [not 100%...ranging from 25%-75% yeah it is] and people put him through alot of weird shit
the john i know would fuck up and then chain smoke or go get drunk and curl up on the floor after-or maybe even try to kill himself . the self loathing regret isn't present as and a large part.also,he comes off as more an asshole than a smartass nowadays--[love the snark,it's part of it]
i have made peace with hellblazer!john being dead and gone--RIP.
the question is can they rebuild him?
i personally think the whole thing with john being tricked into casting that spell andthe magic system in nu52.it had it's stong points,ok?
in all honesty, ithink they are more interested in the shady occult detective thing than John constantine--they like the idea of john but fuck all of john himself
--
by the way,i once read a fanfic when john "allegedly" died ,but came back really young and told people he was conjob's son.word got around and chas had to come get his ass immediately for obvious reasons
-
IDGAF if it's nu52. i've been waiting for this for far too long. I actually kinda liked JLD or at least the premise anyway.i think it belongs in the animated verse plus DCU makes the BEST [except justic leauge vs teen titans.that was a copout at best]so yeah.[that aquaman was awesome(except for the crap romance) and i am watching the killing joke when i get a chance]
i will say,the art is nice,it feels creepy ,matt ryan's here and john and zee can both get it
on the other hand,i have already accepted the hellblazer is not to be.
I say we take this for what it is,let's have some good clean fun! we get a creepy cartoon out of this plus more exposure for Constantine(and ZATANNA she gets NO love in DCU).as for the concept of her holding back i love.why
because she is oneof the most powerful beings in dcu and of course we need a reason why she didn't destroy us allandtake over the world.seemspretty justified.i mean come on,she can tell people to die at will .let us not forget that.
also, not opposed to batman here because i loved him and john's chemistry in Injustice.it was perfect,so ye.also
-
Read it in the shop. Put it back on the rack.
sounds about right.did the same
-
i'm starting to wonder if i should throw in the towel.i swear, one of these days i'm getting in there andre-writing hellblazer myself.i swear . again, the writers keep missing the essence of constantine,as per usual.i gotta wonder if anyof these people actually read hellblazer--or maybe our boy john's just hard to work with..idk
-
so i just read that new rebirth issue--was okay.only gripes were the lackof angst and he's acting a bit like the nu52 constantine-i hope i'm wrong
