  1. AN ANCIENT EVIL RESURFACES IN A HOSPITAL

When John (Matt Ryan) heads to a local hospital to investigate a mysterious attack, he enlists an unwitting Manny (Harold Perrineau) to help him. Meanwhile, a health scare causes Zed (Angélica Celaya) to question the source of her visions. Charles Halford also stars.

Between this and The Walking Dead's return, this will definitely be a very happy 26th birthday for me indeed.

  2. I hated the first half of this issue, but was fine with the second half.

John loved his supportive father. John wanted to be an astronaut when he was a little kid. No! No! No!

The second half, with trickery and self-loathing and betrayal was fine.

I was going to drop this book again, but I think they're leaving Earth 2 now. I'm tired of Apokalips invasions.

I'm tired of this horrible version of John Constantine, actually. Why are these changes to his backstory supposed to be compelling? Why are they necessary?

THIS!! Its like revamping Frank Castle into a pacifist. It. Doesn't. Fucking. WORK!!!

  3. to be honest, mr halford doesn't look like a british working class bulldog to me either. which is pretty much what the chandlers are supposed to be, a typical british working class family. if you would put e.g. a young roseanne as halfords ex wife, no one would believe that on tv.

someone like conchata ferell (bertha from 2and a half men) would be perfect if in her thirties.

Had our boy been given a show in the mid 90s (though Renee, Geraldine, and a then newborn Tricia weren't predominantly featured as much after 1994 til Carey)

  4. When the solicitations for March came out a few weeks ago, Constantine was NOT on the chopping block like a bunch of other titles (Swamp Thing, Klarion, Arkham Manor, almost all of the Green Lantern books, which all had "FINAL ISSUE" in the text). I think the series will be coming back in June with a different creative team, though, for sure.

And what the fuck happened to Bryan Hitch's art over the years? Looks more like Greg Land than Hitch...

I still blame CrossGen for Land's decent. He was fine during his time with DC (i.e. Nightwing and BoP) but as soon as he joined CrossGen, everything went downhill

  5. So the BIG FUCKED UP DC EVENT of 2015 has "ended" Constantine before #25 it seems.

Possibly with #23 leading into the thing.

As you know it is my hope that we come out the other side with a Constantine linked to Season 2 of a Cable-based Constantine TV series. (Not transvestite, television.)

Meanwhile, and by way of diversion from the awful potential of the Doctor Fate episode coming up this week

The so the big picture finally bitchslapped the New 52 architects. Pretty much puts me in mind of this only the comic's Burt Peterson and I'm Roger Sterling.

  6. Synopsis from Seriable:

    "A WHOLE WORLD OUT THERE"

01/30/2015 (08:00PM – 09:00PM) (Friday) : AN EXPERIMENT GOES HORRIBLY WRONG WHEN A GROUP OF STUDENTS TEST A DISTURBING THEORY — JEREMY DAVIES AND WILLIAM MAPOTHER GUEST STAR

Manny (Harold Perrineau) sends John to help an old friend, Ritchie Simpson (guest star Jeremy Davies), at Ivy University where a group of students have a found a way into an alternate dimension only to be met by a maniacal killer (guest star William Mapother).

  7. So, one of my Christmas gifts from the wife was the Art of Sean Phillips hardcover from Dynamite, and within is a pretty decent recap/account of his time working for Vertigo (I adore Phillips' work, easily my favorite Hellblazer artist). I recommend picking it up if you have the extra cash, because it had some really interesting behind-the-scenes info from his time working on Hellblazer, including interviews with Delano, Jenkins, Axel Alonso, Karen Berger, and Eddie Campbell. I had no idea, for example, that Campbell was meant to be the for-real ongoing writer of the series following Ennis, but was essentially forced off after one arc by editorial (Alonso admits in the book that he didn't like Campbell's ideas for the book, particularly what he'd turned in for "Warped Notions"). Anyway, yeah, awesome book!

If only Bob (Schrek) and Brandon (Monteclare) gave Campbell another go to spare us Milligan....

  8. 'CONSTANTINE "QUID PRO QUO" — 01/23/2015 (08:00PM – 09:00PM) (Friday) : CHAS FACES A PARENT'S WORST NIGHTMARE — MARK MARGOLIS GUEST STARS AS 'FELIX FAUST'

Thousands of people across Brooklyn have slipped into a mysterious coma, including Chas' (Charles Halford) daughter. John (Matt Ryan) must find and defeat the evil behind it before it consumes the city. Angélica Celaya also stars.

So not only a Chas centered episode but a loosely based adaptation of All His Engines as we now know Geraldine has Tricia's part in the original story.

  9. Gemma was not always a strong character, but had been left there by her experiences in Mike Carey's run and her friendship with Angie.

However, her demise started with Denise Mina (unless we want to be kind and explain Gemma's behaviour as side effect of the so-called Empathy Virus).

Milligan had her raped by her uncle's demon doppelganger.

She was like the opposite of his Mary Sue.

Epiphany was Shelly Bond's Mary Sue. Way to win over your editor, writer.

Christian's perspective on that #300 is incontrovertible.

As in her crying over Chris Cole's corpse or everything from chs 2-5 with her suddenly flirting with the dolt? With the former, I chalked up to her finally letting it all out the tears over losing her mom.

Yes, Epiphany was Bond's Sue. Even to this day, I'm very disheartened by how she let Milligan fuck shit up on her watch (with or without he four headed Kraken plotting to kill off the book to usher in the bland New 52 impostor)
