  2. Black Tulip? I don't think there's any problem there. It's an odd thing to specify at script-level, but it doesn't mismatch with any parts of her character that I can think of. It might make Jesse's flirtation with Cindy in Salvation seem slightly odd, but my guess is that whole section won't be in this anyway.

Is it specified at script level or is it more of a casting thing?

    Script and casting

  3. I believe it's in June, following the big DC cross-over.

Yeah, they're certainly not going to go with John at the age he was in Hellblazer (he started acting pretty damn immature for a guy almost 60 during the Milligan run anyway!). When HB started, John was only in his 30s though. I'm sure most of us didn't think much about John's age back then, when most of us were in our 20s or younger. What was enjoyable was that John actually did age. The John Constantine in the recent Constantine comic wasn't very old, I think he was back in his early-30s. Perhaps DC plans to keep that interpretation of John, but jettison the baggage of the revamped origin, that distanced long-time readers from the character far more than how he dresses or his age.

Hey, remember when Marvel decided that Tony Stark was too old and did that elaborate story-arc so he could be replaced by Teen Tony? Yeah, I wish I could've wiped it from my memory also.

That's Mad Russell* pretending to be John Contantine.

*inspired by Linkara's nickname for Frank Miller's post-DKR Batman "Crazy Steve"

  4. Where does he even get 1993 from? John's look was deliberately retro, eight years before that.

That bit really makes him sound like a clueless millenial. Or one of the historians from Futurama.

Too right. Tynion's pretty much make Azzarello and He Who Shant Be Named look good in comparison (and that's not saying much for all three) even before the book comes out.

  5. CV: Will it have a slightly Vertigo feel?

    MD: It’s gonna be dark!

JT: These are horror books but to say it has a “Vertigo feel,” we want to match the challenge that the original Vertigo writers took upon themselves to take these incredible concepts and ground them in our day to day lives. But they grounded it in the real world of the late 80s and early 90s. That was so perfect and so real and so timely back then. I think sometimes now, to get at that Vertigo feel, it’s now dated because John Constantine shouldn’t look like someone who walked out of 1993. When he first showed up in the pages of SWAMP THING, he was the dangerous attractive man in the bar. Yes, John Constantine is always going to be wearing a coat but…

Or just give us Hellblazer Vol. 2 under Vertigo so the imprint regain its dignity again.
