  1. I can't believe I didn't make it on any of these lists.....

    1.George W. Bush

2.Ronald Reagan-my hatred for him will never die.

    3.John Ashcroft

    4.Ariel Sharon

    5.Osama Bin Laden

    6.Pat Robertson

    7.Dick Cheney

    8.Oliver North

    9.Margaret Thatcher

    10.Rush Limbaugh

    11.Vladimir Putin

Wow! That Top 10 list certainly goes by quickly!

  2. Is this the office pool where we make our bets?

I'm sure this doesn't mean fuck all. If he dies or lives, it's going to be the same Zionists in charge of Israel, same fate for the Palestinians. Give them a token every so often, and try to appease their leaders enough that they try to put a stop to the Palestinian people's hopeless, helpless fates.

  3. The new Vertigo logo on the spines of the Trades are more compelling to me. It's white and bold and jumps out at me.

It used to read Vertigo/DC Comics.

Jonah Hex and Sgt. Rock both had their time at Vertigo, but Vertigo wants to move farther and farther away from having anything to do with the DCU, and establish their own identity.

It seems that Vertigo is only interested in doing house ads for Trades. I can understand that, but there are new "Hellblazer" Trades coming out. It would've been a perfect time to create a new ad for all H.B. Trades while mentioning "Hot New Novelist, Denise Mina, Starts New Direction this Month! Great Hopping on Point!"

  4. Red-The problem with your idea is it is very hard for fiction writers to do this without coming across as edgy in-your-face, topical, or preachy. Delano managed to do one of the most brilliant political fiction series I have ever read, and that's the reason I give him all the credit in the world.

I haven't seen too many other writers be able to do this, especially without making an actual "political comic" like EX-Machina, which does its job well, but we don't want to see "hangs out at city hall J.C." anytime soon.

It's very easy to fuck up the series but good by gearing it too closely in that direction. I can't think of any current comic writer who they'd put on H.B. who I'd trust to do what Delano did.

I think Vertigo is comfortable with H.B. I don't think they worry about it. It's also a Vertigo comic after issue #200 now. People at Vertigo have no idea how to deal with that concept.

And, oh yes, we must have that "On the Ledge" column about "The Exterminatiors"! That's a book that's going to the bloody top!

You can just feel the sarcasm, can't you?

  5. You know, I always hear teenage females saying that "they don't get boys".

What the fuck is there not to get about a teen boy?!

How much more fucking transparent can a person be???

Women just can't quite grasp that sometimes when a person says, "Gee, you know, you're pretty hot" that there's no underlying double-speak!

  6. Yes.

Across the DCU was an incredibly fun book.

Unfortunately, there aren't that many good "Green Arrow" stories.

You could try the Denny O'Neil "Green Lantern & Green Arrow" stories. They were from the 70s and read incredibly dated today.

There's Kevin Smith's run on "Green Arrow", which is the closest I've seen the character written to perfection.

I've always liked the character, but have a hell of a time finding any comics about him I can stomach to read.

  7. Lot of questions here, Fire. Let's take them in the order given.

"I don't agree with some of it (way to have at least the whole of London's magical community want to stake you; will it be safe for him to go out and take a walk now or will he have to hire someone to buy cigarettes for him?),

Does this mean Chas is now up for possibly being ditched since that if new writers want to bring him back, he'd know better?"

1.)John is leaving London and trying to start over after the horrible events of the past few issues. John doesn't care about his life there anymore, as he's burned the past.

Nice eye, there Fire. We always said that Marvel has the smartest readers, either that or the richest editors to bribe 'em with!

2.)John will be out of contact with everyone he knew for awhile, while he works his life out. Chas and John have had many fights in the past and always ended up best friends again. Will this happen now or have things gone two far between the battling, beleagured buddies? Only time will tell. But, you know Fire, as Stan the Man always used to say when he stopping paying Roy Thomas, "Time heals all wounds".

And, your no-prize is in the mail. Thanks for making yours Marvel!

-The whole batty bullpen-underworked, underpayed, under the influence

  8. Whenever we miss Rogan we all start thinking about anal sex with animals....It's just natural.

I've read horror stories about people who stockpile pets.....

Anyway, a woman, as she gets older, who is very lonely and doesn't feel like she has any chance for happiness in life will replace those unfulfilled needs for love and family with cats.

I'm sure it's the workings of a genius mind, somehow to equate all this.

Once again, the labrynth minds of women that we, as men, can never hope to comprehend.

  9. "Indeed. They'll teach the kids that slavishly following authority figures is bad, and that rebelling against them is fun and good. In all likelihood they'll end up as communists "

Except Dahl hated kids, so only the shy, polite children who do this escape unscathed.

  10. Actually, I was only off-line for about 24 hours when everyone was scared about me. I do have to sleep sometime! For long periods of time even, eh?

    I have Selkie's number also.

It's freaky thinking about this. I mean, I've thought before about people I mostly keep in contact with over the internet, if something happened, I'd just disappear, and no one would ever have any way of figuring out what happened, eh? So, I just try not to think about anything happening to me. I figure since bad things happen to those around me, I must be invicible, right?

I mean, I do have a will....ok, it's not much of a will, since I really have no one, it's mostly for the living will part since I live in George W. Bush's "I will raise the dead and make them vegetables!" America; but I figured that someone should at least inherit my short fiction, so hopefully, they would continue to attempt to get it published for me.

  11. She's a teenage girl. Do you really expect her to be at the heights of maturity? Bloody hell, girls that age are like fucking PMSing every fucking day!

This particular one does sound to be the drama queen type, as well.

  12. Most of the "Hellblazer" writers have all been English (well, at least, British and Campbell is an Aussie), so while the vernacular may be prejudiced to where each writer was from, I would guess that Jenkins could get his English slang proper, seeing as he is English!

  13. "Hellblazer" hasn't been too involved with the political world for a long time.

I don't want to see John getting involved with current political climes either.

The genius of Delano's H.B. is that John was never involved with the events of his day. He didn't run into the Soviet Union and try to jinx the A-bombs into not going off. He was a helpless, every man stuck living day to day in the 1980s world and trying to survive. It was political commentary in fiction at its very best! John didn't go around discussing the events of Reagan's invasion of Grenada, he just felt everything going on in the world far too strongly.

We already have a ton of Vertigo books examining George W. Bush, the Iraq War, the Patriot Act, the war on terror (in one way or another), and most of them leave me cold.

This isn't going to keep Hellblazer alive, but I'd give anything to see what Daniel Clowes would do with John Constantine!

  14. I lump "Seaguy" in with Grant Morrison's rediscovering himself phase.

He went through a period where I really couldn't stand his writing anymore:

    1.Marvel Boy

    2.New X-Men

    3.Filth

    4.Seaguy

None of this a damn thing for me.

  15. It's not that I'm saying I'll never fall in love with another woman. Although, if I'm smart, that would probably be the case! heh

I know that eventually, after a long time, I'll move on. I'm not making Terri into a saint. I know we had our very real problems.

Terri isn't the only woman I've ever loved, but it was so far beyond what I've ever felt for another person.

Maybe I should say that Terri will always be the most special woman to me. We went through so much together. I know no other love of mine will ever be like mine with Terri. She was the first time I've ever felt love at this level, said the things that I told her, spent nearly 5 years of my life with....A lot of firsts with her. She'll always have a very big space and very important space in my heart.

"Sometimes the best way to make one's self less miserable is to embrace the pain, and push it to the most extreme level possible before even trying to cheer up. Works for me. Might be a method that works for Christian, too."

Yes, that's the way I am too. Happy things aren't going to make anything go away for me, they might actually make me feel worse. I can't ignore it, so I have to embrace the pain and hurt and loss, come to terms with it all.

  16. The crack dealers on one corner, the whores down the other, and me in the middle holding my rifle to protect my son from the child rapist next door.

    Uh, yeah, sorry.

I have a lot of great memories from growing up around here.

Holly, Michigan is a beautiful little town. The downtown area is all antique shops. The city seems like it had stood still since the 1940s. The streets are still paved in bricks. They have a Charles Dickens festival every Winter. It's a nice place to go and just walk around, visiting antique stores, and catching glimpses of the past. It's the one place from my childhood that I can still go back to and it is unchanged. I remember walking through this old house that was converted into an antique mall, it has this little replica cave walkway that you can go through, with diarama cavemen displayed. When I went back to Holly after living in Canada for those years, that antique mall is still there, and I was able to walk through that replica cave again.

Grand Blanc is a WASP town. The private school where I went to elementary school is my best memory of Grand Blanc, but it is now a charter school. The elementary school I went to is long since gone.

Flint is pretty well a dead town full of the living dead. There're four comic book stores in Flint, which is the positive of Flint for me. Besides that, there's the strip known as Miller Road, famous for being in Michael Moore's movie, which has the mall and Border's book stores and fast food places. Then, there's the strip known as Dory Hwy. where all the prostitutes hang out after all the strip clubs have closed. The art district of downtown Flint somehow survived amidst all the poverty, drug houses, and gangs. The Sloan museum is a particular pleasure left over from my childhood. The University of Michigan-Flint campus is the best part of downtown. They've kept their areas of land nice, it's an oasis from the homeless people on the streets of downtown. You can walk by the Flint River, it's not so polluted in the college area, and pretend that somewhere downstream a police officer isn't fishing a dead body from the river.

Fenton is where my cousin grew up. I spent a lot of Summers hanging out at his house. He lived on Lake Fenton, had a nice beach behind his house and boats. I don't really ever go to Fenton anymore.

  17. Well, I guess when you address me in those terms you certainly can consider "Seaguy" to be surrealism, although I don't find it to be very effective even in that sense.

It's like an acid trip Morrison took through Kirbyland that he wants to share with you, only acid trips aren't very interesting if you're not the one tripping on LSD.
